Odin New York has launched their fifth fragrance but are calling it Odin 06 Amanu. While there is no explanation for why they are skipping 05 one hopes it isn’t because Chanel beat them to it. The first four Odin fragrances were very good with Odin 04 Petrana being a truly spectacular piece of perfumery. Odin 06 Amanu is not up to the level of Petrana but it does fit in with Odin 01 through 03 as a very good perfume.
What makes Odin 06 Amanu stand out a bit is it seems to clearly be made for the warmest of days when you only want a hint of fragrance on you. No matter how much I sprayed on, Amanu felt like it was the vapor trail of the gentleman just in front of me. It continues the trend of green fragrances using galbanum but instead of it being intense it is passive and diffuse. When the climate is over 90 and the humidity matches Amanu is just what I’m looking for; a fragrance that is just barely there so it doesn’t turn overbearing and cloying.
Odin 06 Amanu opens with the galbanum but unlike many of the green galbanum fragrances that have debuted in 2011 this is the lightest galbanum I’ve experienced in a long time. It seems to linger just at the edge of detection but still there. The jasmine and cedar in the heart of Amanu make more of an impression but not much more. If the galbanum is a whisper the jasmine and cedar are a low voice. It still makes Amanu unobtrusive, but there are definitely levels of development to be experienced. The base of Amanu is oakmoss, white musk, and amber as the woody aspect closes this out.
Amanu has below average longevity and sillage way below average.
Odin 06 Amanu is trying to be like the best of Olivia Gicaobetti’s perfume creations by mimicking her sheer barely there style of composition. While Amanu does not come close to reaching that level it does manage to be well-constructed. If you are someone who likes your fragrance on the sheer side and want something you can wear on the hottest of days I think Odin 06 Amanu is something you should try.
