New Perfume Review: Puredistance WHITE + Finding My Bliss #PDWHITE Fragrance Draw

In my work as a fragrance writer I have the pleasure of smelling  many perfumes. As my experience grows and my nose becomes more carefully trained, it can be easy to slip into a rather methodical process when sitting down to review a scent. I find myself searching through the fragrance for different notes; systematically working through the developing stages and building creative imagery around the twists and turns to be found through the hours that it lasts on the skin. Every so often, I stumble across a perfume that simply bowls me over. A perfume that takes hold of my carefully drafted process, screws it up in a ball and demands that I just enjoy it. Puredistance WHITE is such a fragrance.

The company was founded in 2002 by creative director Jan Ewoud Vos. Based in the Netherlands, Puredistance fragrances are all of extrait strength and the aim is to create timeless perfumes by master perfumers with a soul and a signature. Alongside Master perfumer Antoine Lie (who also composed BLACK), WHITE, the latest release took over a year to develop and is due to launch at the end of this month. "The main idea behind the creation of White has been to produce a perfume so beautiful and positive that it gives the wearer an instant flow of happiness."

In my haste to experience WHITE I joyfully ravaged the parcel and had been drifting around in a haze of bliss for half an hour before I went back to read the accompanying press release. And I couldn't have put it better myself; Puredistance WHITE is indeed an instant flow of happiness, one that finds me with my nose permanently attached to my wrist, devouring it's smooth, pale beauty.

Using notes of Rose de Mai, Tonka bean absolute, Orris, Sandalwood, Bergamot, Musk, Vetiver and Patchouli, WHITE seems to float out of the bottle and onto the skin like a silk scarf. The opening is a little sparkling, like champagne bubbles fizzing to the top of a crystal flute. A slight citrus zing is present but doesn't cut through too sharply, instead emphasising the wonderful honeyed, freshly unfurling petals of Rose de Mai. The sweet delicacy of the rose, buttered up with heavenly orris and tonka absolutes is where I really lose myself. The rest of the development is so smooth and seamless that I find myself unable to distinguish between the notes listed after the first few minutes. The effect is complete; a drift of pale light, dewy nectar and snowy soft textiles.

Imagine waking slowly from a restful sleep, the kind that only happens when the bed cocoons your bones into total relaxation. The room around you is soft with filtered sunlight and a breeze moves the white drapes at the window like the softest of whispers. The sheets are pale silk and slip across bare skin with a shiver of pleasure. The light and the gentle breeze are enough to wake you completely, but there is no urgency to rise from the warm embrace of the bed. An enormous bouquet of overblown cabbage roses droop and swoon in a vase on the table beside you, filling the air with sweetness. Your mind is quiet, you body so relaxed it feels fluid. The warmth of your own skin could lull you back to sleep, should you so wish, or you might wander to the window and see what lies beyond the drifting veils of fine linen… That's where Puredistance WHITE takes me. But everyone's happy place is different, so you may end up somewhere else blissful. Wherever you want to be, I would highly recommend taking this particular trip. For a dose of pure happiness in a world where blissful moments seem too few and far between, why wouldn't you?

One of my favorite color is the white. I think this is an amazing perfume. I would very like to try that. And of course, I had liked Puredistante’s facebook profile.

Interesting read! I only read about Puredistance perfumes, never having the chance to actually try any of them. M has been on my “to test” list for a long, long time. White seems like a good start in discovering this house’s creations. I know I will not be disappointed.
    I am from Europe. Thanks!

I need WHITE in my life so that I can pretend, for a moment or two, that pure happiness is attainable…. I’m in the US, and I love Opardu. Thanks for the great draw.

    Lovely.

  • Beautiful review. I need WHITE! I need happiness, I need light, I need warmth, I need something as beautiful as this sounds. I think I would love it. I’ve not been lucky enough to try any of the Puredistance perfumes… having read more about them now on the Puredistance website though, I definitely want to try them! I’m in the US. Thanks for the draw!

  • A while ago I was gifted the sample set from Pure Distance and was smitten with M. Unfortunately it smells great on my husband and he has appropriated it!
So now I think I need to try White for myself…the notes sound beautiful.
Thank you, I am in Australia

  • The idea of “a drift of pale light” in a fragrance makes me smile. The words and art in this review make me think happy thoughts. This time of year, when the days aren’t quite long enough, is the time I need a gentle, happy fragrance. I live in the US, and I have not yet tried a Puredistance perfume.

  • Who doesn’t need a little bit of happiness in their life? My husband is traveling for work much of this month and next, and my baby is a handful – I need some happiness to get through this! :). I’ve never tried a Puredistance scent but there’s several I’d like to try eventually. Thanks for the draw, I’m in the US!

  • What a beautiful review! A dose of pure happiness in my life is just what the doctor ordered. The light and warmth glowing from the paintings also appeals to me. I am in the US, and I have not tried anything from Puredistance. Thank you.

  • What a gorgeous sounding perfume, and who doesn’t need a bit of instant happiness? I know I do! I am unfamiliar with the range, but would live to try it. I’m in the USA. Many thanks!

Loved your review. I could really do with more white in my life right now, as the dreadful weather seems to show no sign of letting up, and I’m sick of overcast skies. I’ll wear white and pretend summer and sunshine, and happiness are on their way.
I’m in Russia and have yet to try anything by Puredistance. Liked their FB page a while ago too.

  • Fazal Cheema says:

I would love to try White because as I read the review, man classic creations came to mind such as Guerlains and, specifically, YSL Paris in original formula…this fragrance seems to have elements of all lovely perfume categories such as gourmand and floral. my fav. Puredistance creation is M. thanks so much for the lovely draw. I am in the US.

P.S. I am already a member of Puredistance Facebook Community!

  • I haven’t found a favorite Puredistance perfume yet, so all the more reason to want to try White. Maybe it will be the one for me. I’m in the US.

  • thegoddessrena says:

White sounds dreamy and I think Puredistance M is an amazing sexy scent on an ex of mine

  • An “instant flow of happiness?!” Well, as the lady said in When Sally Met Harry, “I’ll have what she’s having!” Anyway, I haven’t sniffed a Puredistance frag that I haven’t liked. Black is my favorite. I think it’s a masterpiece and I’d love to try this! In the US. Great review, thanks for the draw.

  • I need this White in my life to layer it with my Puredistance Black sample. 🙂 My favorite though is Antonia. US.

  • There are so many Puredistance fragrances that I love! Pure distance M is one of my all time favorites, and now that spring is here, I just want to dream in shades of Opardu. And now very likely White! Thank you for the draw! I’m in the US!

  • I’m ready to see green in my garden, and it looks like it’s on the way. The birds are already nesting, and I’ve got veggies in the garden. I could go for something bright and beautiful about now!

US resident, and excited about this draw!

  • Roseinrose says:

I need White in my life because I want to feel and be in a state of joy and happiness as this perfume promises to its wearer. This positive outlook that one has when life is good that’s why I need White. A perfume that I have also experienced from Puredistance and I do love is Black. I have liked Puredistance on facebook and I thank you for this lovely review and draw.
Also many thank you for sharing with us these lovely pictures with the paintings from Valeria Kotsareva.
    I live in EU.

  • I need White because it’s starting to feel like winter is fading a spring is coming! Spring is happiness and it seems that White is also. i only tried one Puredistance a long time ago. I’m not sure what it was, maybe Antonia. I’m in the US.

  • I’ve never tried anything from the house, but White sounds incredible! I’m really liking the notes and it feels like the perfect warm weather scent! Thanks for the draw. I’m in Canada.

  • I’m desperate for that space that WHITE creates, soft, tranquil, restful and the mind uncluttered. Beautiful classical notes as well for harmony. I need you White! I have never tried Puredistance before and this one sounds like a great place to start. I do like the mission statement as well ” timeless perfumes by master perfumers with a soul and a signature.” Nice one! I am international.

  • I am an “M” lover, that is when it doesn’t get “borrowed” at home…

I prefer “smooth” perfumes, especially in spring & summer, so White appears to fill the bill perfectly. US resident.

  • I could use some happiness in a bottle. I admire Black and am very curious about White. EU resident.

  • Danu Seith-Fyr says:

I loved reading about this, the concepts, the ideas, the translation into scent all appeal to me and although I havent tried any of Puredistance yet I am an olfactory adventurer always open to the new, the light the bright..
my recent life experiences without going into detail were akin to persephones descent into the underworld and like Persephone, I am returning to the surface…. The sunlight may be blinding and the noise and heat unfamiliar….. But I am here, this beautiful light and bright fragrance sounds like a beautiful welcome back….thank you

  • I need White because I have tried black and feel white will be a better fit….I am also a fan of 1 🙂 I am in the US, thank you for the opportunity.

  • Freeestyler says:

I’ve never tried anything from the house, but White sounds very interesting to me and I am sure that this is something very special! Thanks for the draw. I’m in Germany.

  • Sounds like a dream and so delightful! I appreciated black and M, but maybe this is the one for me!

  • Black is my favorite Puredistance perfume, and the only one I’ve sampled –but these days, surrounded by mountains of slowly melting white stuff that has made me kind of miserable, I’d love to try a White which is warm, sunny, happiness in a bottle. It would balance out the universe!

Also I really like the art. Some parts of it and of the description remind me of Sargent’s sun-saturated paintings of laundry lines and houses in partial shade.

USA thank you for the review and draw

  • Cynthia Richardson says:

I need WHITE in my life to get that instant flow of happiness. I live in the US and have not yet had the pleasure of wearing a Puredistance perfume.
    I “like” Puredistance on Facebook.

  • Thank you for the review, Susie! I am pretty hectic these days – I started a new job, and the adaptation is somehow slow. Moreover, my child is not living with me, because the job is in another town. I am traveling every week, but this is not enough for a mother and her child…So my melancholy is overtaking me. WHITE sounds uplifting, but not with a caffeine effect, which is what I need these days. And I guess, it is suitable for yoga practice and meditation with the bergamot-rose-orris-musk-sandalwood combo.
I love all the perfumes from Puredistance range, but I am connected on several levels with M.
I already like the Facebook page of Puredistance.
    I am in Bulgaria (EU).
Thanks to CaFleureBon for the draw!

  • i’ve been looking forward to spring and it now started, with the arrival of the first spring flowers – i needed these white blooms to chase away the grey and short winter days 🙂

i’ve never had a chance to try Puredistance perfumes so far and would love to try White. i am in the EU.

  • I need Puredistance WHITE in my life because it sounds so restful, and I have a little munchkin not yet adjusted to the “spring forward” time change yet, so bedtime has not been a good time lately. I need peace and calm! I have not yet had the pleasure of trying any by Puredistance yet. I’m in the US, and liked on Facebook. Thanks!

  • With the weather finally becoming warmer where I live, I feel that White would make the perfect spring scent! Its fresh and I love the notes! I’ve never tried anything from this house, but maybe I need to start!
