New Perfume Review: Pryn Parfum Lolita (Prin Lomros) 2016 + Sweet Seduction Draw

Prin Lomros of Pryn Parfums

Lovers of fresh, beautiful florals and classic French perfumes are going to  adore Pryn Parfum recent release, Lolita. Prin Lomros, a very gifted perfumer from Thailand, moved into the spotlight this year for receiving a finalist nomination in the 2017 Art & Olfaction Awards Artisan category for his stunning spicy rose “floriental” Rosuerrier, inspired by Joan Of Arc.  Prin is based in Bangkok (a.k.a The Big Mango) Thailand. Pryn Parfum currently has fifteen scents available-thirteen of which are available on the Pryn website, and two bespoke exclusives available only in Bangkok boutiques. The perfumes are all produced as a “Parfum Intense concentration” which is halfway between an edp and an extrait.  As well as perfumes, Pryn offers a range of scented candles and scented Himalayan crystals for use in aroma diffusers.

Brigitte Bardot Au Festival de Cannes (1955)

“I graduated with a master’s degree in Film study and no background in perfumery. The only thing I knew is that I loved scent and being a perfume collector! I had taken basic chemistry in high school and this helped me understand perfume a lot.  My own personal perfume story started at the Cannes film festival, and while there I had a chance to visit Grasse, long considered to be the perfume capitol of France? It occurred to me that although I love to express my stories via film the method can be too clichéd, people had made films for decades and I believed  there’s nothing new in film, so I needed a different method that allowed me to express my stories. That’s how my journey began. I learned simple perfumery methods in a classroom in Grasse, and returned to Thailand to work in the perfume industry with some great mentors. All the rest is self-taught.

Rosuerrier, a top ten Art and Olfaction 2017 finalist in the Artisan category

My perfumes are the story of places, experiences, culture, art, films, and scents  of my journey. I consider perfume within the context of storytelling; every note, every element must be chosen wisely to communicate the scenery and how the story goes and how the story ends. From film I learned this: The greatest film makers must be able to make films in any genre. So for my debut I created five scents in five different styles/genres to introduce myself as a perfumer. And I am so thrilled to share my olfactory stories to perfume lovers everywhere.”Prin Lomros

You’ll hear more about Prin Lomros’ award-nominated Rosuerrier in a future review, but right now I’d like to introduce you to a sexy little number hiding in Pryn Parfum’s back-catalog. Her name is Lolita, and like her Vladimir Nabokov 1955 novels’ namesake, she is a young girl ready to take the step into the power of her own womanhood and sexuality. “Lolita. The journey through transformation from a girl to a woman. Celebrating her love, beauty and sexuality of youth. Love; delights of dessert, ripe fresh fruits. Beauty; sweet and sensual flowers in the garden. Sexuality; seducing musk and amber.”

Not unlike the Lolita of the book, Lolita the parfum Intense begins with innocence and flirtation, light and bright osmanthus mixed with flirty and girlishly sweet honeysuckle which quickly steps back for the candy creaminess of the crème brûlée and tart astringency of lemon curd. Both notes add a level of sweetness that COULD make your teeth ache and send the perfume tumbling into gourmand territory, yet it never goes that far. Rather it skims the very edge of diabetic coma, perfectly happy to just dip its’ blood-red lacquered toenail in while simultaneously and lasciviously licking a heart shaped lollipop.

Lolita (1962 film) James Mason and Sue Lyon

All the while the musk keeps everything grounded soundly in the slightly carnal and suggestive. But as they say, youth is fleeting and soon enough Lolita veers solidly into classic french perfume style as the trés sophisticated florals of rose, jasmine, and a soupçon of carnation slip in. The perfume at this point feels extremely grown-up, akin to Guerlains classic L’Heure Bleue, or a Dior worn by a “mature-for-her-age” 20-something. Still flirty, but with an undercurrent that hints at a naughty and predatory edge. And there it stays for hours, a gorgeous grown-up vintage-style aroma that’ll knock your socks (and maybe your undergarments) off. Notes: Honeysuckle, Osmanthus, Musk, Crème Brûlée, Lemon Curd, Neroli, Rose Otto, Nectarine, Egyptian Jasmine, Sweet Pea, Carnation and Amber.

Disclosure: Many thanks to Pryn Parfum and Prin Lomros for supplying the sample. Opinions are my own.

  • This perfume sounds yummy. I like all of the notes. And, if it drys down to “sophisticated florals of rose, jasmine, and a soupçon of carnation” it would be perfect. From the site, Amalfi sounds appealing to me. I would love to try Lolita. I am form the US.

Lovely review. Big fan of the novel, so the perfume Lolita appeals to me. I love the description of mature notes with juvenile notes, because it perfectly captures Lolita’s personality, or at least what Humbert sees in her. I would like to win The Discovery Set. Thank you!

  • GrandmaGaga says:

Very evocative review for a very evocative fragrance. I love Mr. Lomros’ story of his journey to perfumery. Lolita sounds so good; I would love to try Lolita or the discovery set. I am in the US. Thank you for the chance!

I am always curious regarding new creatives, so was fascinated by the emergence , I would like to try Rossuerrier.

What a lovely review! he had me at ” soon enough Lolita veers solidly into classic french perfume style as the trés sophisticated florals of rose, jasmine, and a soupçon of carnation slip in.” I love the eugenol spice of carnation as a perfumery note! I think i’d like to win the discovery set as they all sound very intriguing, especially the jardin d’iris. Iris has always fascinated me, I’d like to see if the treatment of it here is baby powder iris, or rooty earthy iris, or somewhere in between. I’m located in Salt Lake City, UT, USA

  • It sounds like the entire Lolita composition has a strong “wooing” factor. All of the notes appeal to me, from the honeysuckle and lemon curd(???!!!) right down to the “mature for her age” Egyptian Jasmine, Osmanthus, spicy Carnation and Amber! Definitely want to try this and if I won, I’d want to try Lolita, even though the discovery set sounds intriguing. Thanks for sharing, Robert! I live in the US.

  • BostonScentGuy says:

Innocence meets french boudoir sounds like a fun scent. I enjoy young florals with a surprising mature quality. Would love to try the pine incense and oriental rose! Sample set would be my choice. Thanks for the draw! I’m in the US.

  • kaitracid says:

The last statement of the Lolita review made me smile: “a gorgeous grown-up vintage-style aroma that’ll knock your socks (and maybe your undergarments) off” and although it sounds pretty good, I think the sweetness level might be more than I could handle and the most interesting ones seem to be Jardin d’iris and Turkish leather. Would like to win the discovery set to see the work Prin has done. US

  • Amazing review. This perfume sounds simply perfectly. The notes are all wonderful. I would very love to try this lovely perfume. My choice is Lolita. Thank you for the draw. I live in Europe.

  • What an interesting story of having a fragrance be like a movie and what a change in career! I like that the concentration is above an eau de perfume. I would love to try the sample set. I also wonder if the scents of Thailand influence the line. Thanks for the draw. I live in the US.

  • zazazelle says:

The story of Prin sounds so effortless: “i made movies, but once i decided that i can tell stories with scents, too”, that is inspiring because i also hope to create my own scents one day! I would like to test the different stories from this perfumer, so I would like to win The Discovery Set. I live in Europe/EU. Thank you very much for the opportunity!

  • Great review. I think that Lolita sounds amazing. If selected I would like to win the Discovery Set. I live in the USA.

  • I do love sweet fragrances but am intrigued by the described “naughty” transformation of this perfume. I think I would love to try Hikari, as I love sake notes in fragrance, and Amalfi–and of course the star, Lolita! I live in the US. I would like to try the discovery set, as so many from this house sound interesting. I live in the USA.

  • Beutiful review, thanks!
Especially I like description of parfume’s start- “begins with innocence and flirtation, light and bright osmanthus mixed with flirty and girlishly sweet honeysuckle ..”
I would like to try the discovery set.
    I live in Armenia.

Thanks for the review! Lolita. a story based on transformation from a girl to a woman……..an aroma that’ll knock your socks and maybe your undergarments off…..a funny & interesting read. PRYN is a storyteller in the form of perfumes, this is inspiring and impressive. My choice is Discovery Set.
Thanks to Pryn Parfum for the generosity and Cafleurebon for the opportunity.

  • Film and perfume, two of my favorite things! I love the story of Prin’s journey to creating fragrances. So unexpected but also very fitting. Lolita sounds absolutely wonderful and perfectly named as well. I enjoy tooth-aching, diabetically sweet fragrances, and like that Lolita seems to have a bit of that quality while still retaining a level of sophistication. My choice is Lolita. In the US. Thanks for the draw!

  • When it comes to Robert’s writing and what I like about his reviews? EVERYTHING from word one to the notelist! But in this particular review I enjoyed how he declared Lolita would “…knock your socks (and maybe your undergarments) off!” Smashing!

Prin’s amazing blend of some classic education, hands-on mentoring in his homeland and personal inspiration will no doubt yield a very unique perfuming style.

AKSUM sounds like the perfume I have been dreaming of for years! Dragon’s Blood, Oud, Hyrax, Hay, Beeswax, SWEAT, goat’s hair (also used in Anya’s Garden PAN one of my favorite perfumes EVER!) not to mention the flowers the resins and woods!

If I should be so blessed to win a prize I would choose the 7 perfume sampler of 3 ml each. This review makes me almost ache for Lolita yet the others call out to me like Taiga, Hikari and Turkish Leather…not to mention the Art & Olfaction finalist based on Joan of Arc!

I’m a registered reader & a US resident. Thanks for the draw AND for shining a light on another unknown (at least to me) perfumer and House!

  • NiceVULady says:

I always like Robert’s reviews. I like the movement of this perfume from nice to more mature and the idea of story telling If I won, I’d really like the Discovery Set. Thanks for the draw. I’m in the USA

  • Greysilver says:

I’m looking for a scent that will ” knock my socks off” or more!! Lol!! Also like the diabolical flirtation!! I’d love the Lolita, of course!!
    Thank you for the draw!!

  • How ironic to see this, I was just looking at these and talking to a few people online about them the other day! I heard that a couple of these were really unique, people loved the forest/pine one. And that Mimosa was great, but this discussion of Lolita makes me wonder if it’d be a great summer fruit scent, I don’t have many. I’d enjoy trying a sample set, this article just made me more interested lol! I’m in the USA.

As to the review, I love the way he writes/describes the notes, like ‘soupçon etc’, it’s so smooth and stylish.

  • Sweet start and back to French classical; Looks interesting. Thank you for the very straight and bright review.
I guess I am going to love Marcello from the house and because of this I choose the Discovery Set. Live in the USA.
Thanks to Pryn Parfum and Cafleurebon for the opportunity.

  • doveskylark says:

Robert’s review intrigued me. I like slightly carnal fragrances a lot. The carnation dry down sounds wonderful.
I am very interested in Hikari from this line. It was developed with the great metropolis of Tokyo as an inspiration.
I would choose the discovery set if i were to win.
    I live in the USA.

  • Lolita sounds very nice but I’d love to experience samples from the whole line. Le Mimosa particularly intersts me. Thank you for the draw. USA

  • I like the anthology with the character and it seems to be a nice smelling perfume from the review, but I’d like to see the other work too so would like to win the discovery set, I have my eye mostly on Jardin d’iris, Amalfi, Taiga and Turkish Leather. USA

  • MichelleU says:

To be sincere I was expecting to find osmanthus among the notes for a perfume called Lolita and it did not let me down and this line right here “bright osmanthus mixed with flirty and girlishly sweet honeysuckle” really got me, as osmanthus is an interesting sweet note.

    Loved Robert;s review, as always!

Lolita appeals to me the most, but Taiga seems also very interesting. As always I will my choice is the sample set!

I am a reader from the EU! Wish you all the best!

I am a reader from the EU. Thank you very much!

  • What appeals to me the most about Lolita is sounds like a delicious, kinda gourmandish floral. With the honeysuckle and osmanthus. It sounds like a sweet fragrance which is my absolute favorite genre. Lolita sounds like it appeals to me the most but I would like the discovery set if I won. I live in the U.S. Thank you so much.

  • RoseMacaroon says:

The terrain of this story is a big favorite of mine, and I would absolutely love to see how it is interpreted by this perfumer, given that the notes sound really delicious. I would want the bottle of Lolita, it sounds almost unbearably good.
Thank you so much for this super-fun review!
    I’m in the US.

  • Have never heard of this house but it sounds really well made. I’d love the discovery set to try them all out! I’m in Canada!
