Josh Meyer Of Imaginary Authors
When I first reviewed the Imaginary Authors line, perfumer Josh Meyer had just participated in the 2012 Artisan Fragrance Salon in Los Angeles. Everyone was taken by his interesting premise and gorgeous package design. Josh has been able to maintain a very lively audience for his fragrances as his business has grown and has been smart by releasing a limited number of perfumes per year, so each new scent is highly anticipated. His latest fragrance, Yesterday's Haze, was "penned" by the imaginary author Lenora Blumberg, who we last met in 2012's, Violet Disguise. This new scent writing has been generating a lot of buzz, and for good reason. “Just as sunsets are more beautiful than on hazy days so, too, are the memories of yesterday.”

I don't know why I even bother reading notes lists. Notes set me up to expect a certain kind of perfume but some perfumes are so interestingly blended that the notes are just a distraction. Such is the case with Yesterday Haze. Here is the scenario that crept into my brain as I wore this perfume: A beautiful woman wearing a lovely, ambery, womanly perfume has been embraced by a man wearing an equally lovely masculine scent. She is pleased, relaxed, and slightly flushed as she goes about her business. We don't know if he is a lover or a crush, but the idea of her wearing a trace of his scent obviously delights her. We wonder if he also likes having a trace of her scent as well. A note of saltiness comes from my skin as I wear this, which is unexpected and very intriguing. It is like a small fan blowing across my skin, giving me a different olfactory experience each time the fan comes around to waft.
I wore this on a slightly cooler day, when I only slightly boiled in my office. The longevity of this fragrance is very impressive. I could still smell everything on my skin when I was going home from work, later than usual. I definitely enjoyed my day in this perfume; it is deliciously evocative and made me feel rather sexy. Wearing Yesterday Haze is a good example of olfactory evocation.
Notes: fig, iris, cream, tonka, tree bark, walnut bitters, orchard dust.
