New Perfume Review: Eau d’Italie Graine de Joie + Amore d’Italia Draw

GrainedeJoie eau d'italie 2014

One of the brands I was happiest to come across at Esxence was Eau D’Italie. Their fragrances have always intrigued me, but they are not that easy to just go and sniff. A fragrance line created to capture the “Scented Stories of Italy” couldn’t be missed if I was in Italy, for sure, and it was a delight to finally catch up with the line. They were introducing a new fragrance at the show, Graine de Joie, and a joyous perfume it is, indeed.

There is something about a well-done fruity perfume that always makes me smile. Graine de Joie opens with a juicy pomegranate that is truly delectable, with a few other fruit notes to keep it company. There is a slight earthiness to the aroma, like the leathery skin of the pomegranate, too, so this is not so much a fruit salad as the smell of the farmer’s market stalls on a warm day. I know that pomegranates are a winter fruit, but in my fantasy world, they are on the tables with their summery counterparts of berries and plums. Every good market has a flower stand, and a light scent of greenery and blooms mingles with the fresh produce.

The perfume remains true to its fruity opening throughout, becoming richer as a touch of sugar and wood emerges. Graine de Joie is a lively scent, perfect for spring and summer, but with an intriguing depth that would make it suitable anytime for anyone. It’s not a teenage fruity-floral, although young people could certainly enjoy this, but a grown-up testament to the joy of love. The scent was created by perfumer Daphne Bugey for Eau D’Italie’s Creative Directors Sebastián Alvarez Murena and Marina Sersale to celebrate love as a common element in the history of Italy, and this fragrance does capture the spirited nature of love in all its forms. I like wearing this perfuime very much; it is easy and comfortable while still being interesting, and I have enjoyed smelling it through its journey on my skin.

Notes: Pomegranate, red fuits, freesia, pralines, cedarwood, musk

I received my sample from the kind people at Eau d’Italie. Graine de Joie is available at Eau d’Italie for 125€ for 100 ml and in the USA in May.

It sounds like something delicious to eat with an espresso – wonderful! US resident – thanks so much for another fantastic review!

  • Would love to try this – berries and pomegranate! I like Paestum rose a lot, but have not had the chance to sample from this house. I live in the US. Thank you for the draw.

  • I love a good fruitee that doesn’t announce me as a teenager when I walk in the room, awkward… I adore Acqua Decima from this house and really need to experience more of their creations. I am in the US and do look forward to seeing how this one plays on my skin as well. Thanks for the Opportunity.

  • This line intrigues me, too, I really like their back story and the distinctive packaging. Haven’t gotten to try very many but I’m a fan of Pasteum Rose, I like their “twist” on rose. Graine de Joie is appealing because I’m trying to stretch my perfume horizon and experience some fruits; this one having a leather feel and a cedar base sounds less sweet and more fun than many others. I’m in the US, thanks for the review!

  • I don’t think I have ever tried anything from this line, but I would like to! I love the name and do like fruity fragrances.

I live in the US. Thanks!

  • I haven’t tried any from Eau d’Italie, unfortunately, but the idea of a fragrance with a pomegranate note intrigues me. I’m in the US.

  • Hello, I love Paestum Rose: it is one of my all time favorites so this new perfume is sure to please. I do love a bit of pomegranate in the midst of spices. Hope this will smell the way I think it might. I I will never forget the fruit stand smell in Italy: you could smell the ripeness from several yards away. Very exciting release. Im in the US.

  • I love Jardin du Poete. Something with pomegranate would be unique to try for me. Cant’ wait. US

  • Graine de Joie sounds so wonderful!! On my frequent visits to the farmers’ market, I always enjoy the fruit, vegetable, flower and other great smells and have often thought that there are some good notes here for a perfume. My favorite from Eau d’Italie so far is Au Lac.

  • Pomegranate is one of my favorite home scents o I’d love to have a good perfume to try featuring this scent. I enjoy Jardiniere de Poete from the line. I am in the US. Thank you.

  • I love pomegranate in a fragrance. I have never tried Eau d’Italie and thank you for the opportunity! I’m a US resident.

  • Decima is my favorite, thus far from this house. What interests me is the “…a touch of sugar and wood emerges”. Sounds ideal.
    u.s.a.

  • My favorite is Paestrum Rose and it smells pretty good. I would love to smell their new creation. Pomangrante and cedarwood sound great together. I’m in the USA thanks for the draw!

my favorite from the brand is Sienne l´Hiver. i have to admit i rarely find fruity fragrances i like which may be also due to how many fruity fragrances have been churned out by mainstream designers that all smell like sugar..so i am curious given the history of the brand if this is one of those ‘rare’ well done fruity fragrance..i am in the US

  • Amore d’Italia?!!! Blood red fruits touched by the lightness of Freesia bent earthward by Cedarwood!! Fascinating, rich and alluring like a summer picnic when the season is still on the vine and we hum with the lushness of ripe pleasure. Bring me home with your stories Italy, I am homesick for Eau d’Italie Granie de Joie.
    Thank you.

Sounds lovely. I haven’t been able to sniff any of their perfumes yet but Au Lac is my list of samples to order next time I place an order from Luckyscent. I’m interested in the scent because I love freesia, especially when it’s a little fruity.

  • I’m in the U.S. I have yet to try any from this line, but I love that this is a “testament to the joy of love.” I’d really like to try it. Thanks for the draw!
