New Perfume: Olivier Durbano Chrysolithe “The Divine Wisdom of Number 11”

“If one wishes to become wise and to avoid extravagance, one must simply take the stone named Chrysolithe”  –  Albert the Great”,  from The Book of Secrets written in the  8th century

French Perfumer Olivier Durbano launches his 11 th perfume, Chrysolithe, at Pitti Fragranze Sept 11-13, 2015. The name is derived from the Ancient Greek khrusolithos, meaning gold stone… and this mystical gem has appeared for centuries, cited with references in the Bible, the Torah and the Qur’an. It is the tenth of the precious stones which adorned Aaron’s breastplate, the seventh of the foundation stones of New Jerusalem…

Chrysolithe sparkles multi colors of green, gold, and topaz, peridot and is of ancient origins and no longer found in our era. Its meaning is deeply spiritual and transcendent. Chrysolithe is the symbol of Self-control, of the Harmony of the Divine Masculine at the heart of the Divine Feminine, and of Divine Wisdom.  It symbolizes pure and spiritual elevation removed from all earthly interference. In the Arab world, the number 11 represents the number of steps one must take to understand God.  In China, it represents the Tao, “the Mother of Earth”, the Path through heaven, (using numerology 6, and Earth, 5,) alluding to exceptional intuition and inspiration. Inspired by this age-old philosophy and in line with tradition, Chrysolithe combines ancestral virtues and the mysterious aroma of hyssop, symbol of purity and humility, with the precious and majestic power of cedar, pungent fragrance and revitalizing properties; infused with white sage, “desert sage”, with its purifying power, and mixed with black cumin, known as “the seed of blessing”.

Top Notes: Hyssop, cumin, vervain, cinnamon, black pepper, ginger

Head Notes: Sage essence, rosemary, jasmine

Bases Notes: Cedar wood, vetiver, sage Absolue, ambergris, musk

I have been wondering what one of your personal favorite gemstone is ever since you mentioned briefly in one of the Esxence posts that Olivier Durbano was creating his new scent inspired by it—now I know!
Hyssop, cedar, black cumin & white sage –sounds incredible! Can’t wait to read the review — oh and I noticed that the fragrance is launching on the 11th (of course), but even though it’s 9/11, 9+1+1 still equals 11!

  • My favorite is Black Tourmaline and Promothee. I love the sound of sage and cedar Great news! Why is this line so hard to find in the USA

This is what perfume can be, so special and the language around it so meaningful and beautiful. Thank you.

  • It sounds so mysterious, compelling and gorgeous. I adore so many of these notes – the black pepper, ginger, rosemary, sage and jasmine…I’m dying to try it!
