The inspiration for A Vision in White-Dress Oscar de La Renta

 I have known  Boston based perfumer Neil Morris for seven years and each year we talk about collaborating on a fragrance. After reading Sr. Contributor Michael Devine's eloquent perfume review of  A Vision in Black,  (a Vault within a Vault fragrance), I knew that this would be the year that it would happen.  I envisage perfume through imagery, so the next day I sent Neil this photo of an Oscar De La Renta model to begin the process.  I suggested the name A Vision in White, as a counterpoint to A Vision in Black and asked Neil to compose an homage to retro elegance, to timeless fashion and to a classic beauty whose face we never see but whose presence cannot be ignored. it was important that this perfume would evoke the vintage Chanel and Guerlain perfumes that Mike wrote about when describing A Vision in Black; but I didn't want a musuem piece.   We agreed  that honeysuckle would be the linchpin note that connected the two, but A Vision in White would not be a typical white floral. It was important to me that this fragrance  was created with  precious raw materials, like oakmoss, that are not found in most contemporary perfumes on the market. A Vision in White was to be a dichotomy –  an effervescent champagne cocktail with a drydown  with depth and dimension as if shaded from the sun.  I wasn't expecting a bespoke fragrance and Neil hid most of the notes from me, so that I wouldn't pass judgement. The result is that Neil created a fragrance so exquisite that feels like it was created just for me …  I think every woman will feel the same.

Heart: Jasmine, Green Tea, Honeysuckle, Gardenia, Orchid
Base: Oakmoss, Musk, Orris
