“In all fairness, I cannot claim responsibility for these fragrances. Nature provided these gems. I merely polished and set them.”-Christopher Brosius

CB I Hate Perfume debuts Rare Flowers a special collection of natural fragrances each made with one single floral absolute. This is a new direction for the brand that is exciting for those who appreciate natural perfumery.   According to Christopher, "These entirely natural absolutes are among the most rare and exquisite materials in the perfumer’s palette. They are also among the most expensive, and the most difficult to work with requiring great skill to prepare and use. But their beauty is unmatched by even the best synthetic replication and though each is made from one single flower, their fragrances are rich, complex, highly nuanced and magical". Floral Absolutes are the product of enfleurage or solvent-extraction; both are extremely painstaking, labor-intensive processes which require great skill but which result in the finest of perfume materials. (Read Contributor David Falsberg’s Perfumer’s Workshop on Enfleurage will re-familiarize you with this age old artisanal process).  “The absolutes chosen for our Rare Flowers collection are obtained from the best suppliers around the world to insure the very highest quality. Much like wine, the fragrance of these absolutes may vary slightly from harvest to harvest but will never be less than astonishing”, Christopher explained.

The inaugral collection features Christopher’s favorite flowers: Night Blooming Jasmine, Neroli, Tuberose, Champaca, Jonquil and Narcissus. Each Rare Flower is available in perfume absolute and water perfume form.  As with all CB perfumes, they contain absolutely no alcohol.

The I Hate Perfume Rare Flowers Collection is now available and new absolutes will be added in future. Prices range $325 – $500.

  • I wish you could interview Christopher and find out exactly what he means when he says, “polished and set them”, or “requiring great skill to prepare and use”. Did he do this? Or did he just buy them from others and dilute them? I’d love to know how he did it and what he means.

  • Jonquil! Narcissus! The Jasmine! This new collection sounds like it will just one more stretch for CB. Acknowledging the challenges one faces when working with natural materials is another leap for natural perfumes. He is working with some high priced goods; just finding Jonquil is a miracle.

  • Wow holy moly! I’ll never be able to afford them. but I would kill to smell the Champaca and Jonquil. I bet they are real stunners.

  • They sound absolutely wonderful, especially the tuberose and champaca. Oh heck, I would love to smell them all. But the prices are way too steep for me 🙁
