Viktor & Rolf debuted their new perfume Bon Bon exclusively at Selfridges London on March 20th.  Viktor & Rolf's fragrances have been a worldwide success since Flowerbomb, composed by Olivier Polge, Carlos Benaïm and Domitille Bertier (according to NPD, Flowerbomb was the #5 best selling perfume in 2013 in the US). launched nine years ago. How does Bon Bon measure up?

Bon Bon is Flowerbomb's younger precocious sister. She plays at being a seductive woman, a Lolita but she is really just a girl at heart, greedy for sweets. The perfumers Cecile Matton and Serge Majoullier created a floral fruity gourmand perfume with emphasis on the gourmand. The fragrance opens with a BIG blast of caramel. Although it is listed as a middle note the entire perfume is wrapped around it. At first sniff, my mouth watered as the creamy candy engulfed my senses. Bon Bon tones down as the heart of the fragrance develops and the peach, orange blossom  and jasmine appear reminiscent of Flowerbomb. An unexpected sharp cedar note surfaces, like a cut to Humbert Humbert's heart  before settling into a sweet woody base with surprising depth and a more than a hint of sultriness.

Overnight longevity impressive sillage.

Notes: Mandarin, orange peach, orange blossom, jasmine, caramel, cedar, guaicwood, sandalwood, amber

The perfume is available as 30, 50 and 90 ml Eau de Parfum at 50, 68 & 94GBP. The line is completed by Shower gel and body lotion both in 200ml bottles at 45GBP.

Disclosure: The review is based on perfume samples kindly provided by Viktor & Rolf at Selfridges.

  • Huh, I now realize what the candy looks like in the movie poster. Appropriate, I suppose. I can imagine this would smell like Jolly Ranchers. I don’t use V and R and don’t know much about their perfumes except that they use the word “bomb” in their names and seem popular with the general public.

  • Bon Bon’s notes are very appealing to me. What’s not to love about a sweet woody base with hints of sultriness? Would love to try this one. Wish I lived closer to buy from Saks NY when it’s debuted. Thanks for the opportunity to sample this one.

  • I have been waiting for this one to reach the US. I own and love Flowerbomb, and Flowerbomb Extreme. Bon Bon appeals to me because I keep reading that it’s heavy on the caramel (love), and it’s slightly similar to Flowerbomb.

    Thanks for the giveaway.

I have to admit I’ve not tried any of my Viktor & Rolf samples as I’ve been afraid to be bombed by too much scent. Sounds nutty, but it’s true. But lately I’m loving bigger fragrances, and really sweet ones, too, so I’d like to try this. I agree 100% w/ Sani L’s comment!

I have not tried Flowerbomb yet, I have heard great things about it though… I would like the chance to try Lolita as my first V & R fragrance

I like everything what the two guys have created so far! my favourite fragrance of V&R is Antidote! Greetings from Germany

  • My favourite is Spicebomb, although I do find it a bit too light for my own liking.

  • I took a chance on V&R Flowerbomb La Vie En Rose one day in Sephora and to my great surprise found it quite agreeable! So I must confess that Bon Bon makes me quite curious. I am in the US.

  • For the sake of caramel yes please Bon Bon will be my choice 🙂
    I live in EU, Greece.

  • Well, I still haven’t found my candy gourmet to cherish! That’s why I want to try Bon Bon.
    Thanks for the draw!
    I am in EU, Bulgaria.

  • Big blast of caramel sounds yummy. 🙂 I did like the artistic campaign photo by Inez van Lamsweerde & Vinoodh Matadin so I’m interested in comparing the imagery to the scent.
Thanks for the draw and I’m in the EU.

  • Chandni V says:

I LOVE Bonbon!! Having experienced it in Selfridges, the fragrance just envelopes you! It was more the caramel that came out at first but then subtle hints of orange. I’ve been a loyal Flowerbomb user for years but I’m really looking forward to buying Bonbon just for that guilty pleasure scent!!

  • My favorite V&R scent is Antidote!!
Although I usually avoid sweeter gourmands I would like to try ‘this as I love salted caramel, scent and taste.
Thanks for letting us know, Maria and for the kind draw.

  • My favorite Viktor & Rolf perfume is Flowerbomb and I think this one sounds great, too!

  • I’d like to try this as it sounds like a great mix of sweet and savory–just like a salt caramel! I have only tried Spicebomb which I liked and would love to try more! Thanks for the draw!

  • I tried Flowerbomb in different concentrations, and I feel like the EDT is closer to my taste.
I would really like to try bon bon.
I hope to have luck and win on this draw.
    Thank you!

I like the fact that this is sugary-sweet, and not flowery-sweet. Sounds incredible!
