New Fragrance Review Swarovski Edition: The Sparkle Within + 15 Full Bottle Crystal Draw

As a long time attendee of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York I have watched untold amounts of Swarovski crystal adorn almost everything that it could be applied to. Every season I always come away thinking that Swarovski knows how to add a special sparkle to almost everything. Everything that is except perfume. Sure there are many collector’s Swarovski encrusted flacons from many brands but Swarovski never went so far as to create the juice in the crystal studded bottle. 2011 signaled a change in that as in March of that year the first Swarovski branded fragrance, Aura, was released. Aura was a fragrance which brought to mind what people think when you say Swarovski to them; a bold bright fruity floral of a fragrance. This is the Swarovski experience when it is the star of the show so bright it leaves a crystalline aura around you.

When it comes to Swarovski I like it when designers use it less obviously. Still one of my favorite uses of it came from designer Prabal Gurung’s Fall 2010 collection seen above. As you look at it you’re probably asking yourself where the crystal is. What Mr. Gurung did was to subtly place them throughout the ostrich feathers and so when the model was walking the runway there were little sparkling explosions as she moved down the catwalk. It looked like tiny fireworks were exploding around her. The new fragrance release from Swarovski called Edition is a lot like that piece of couture I am describing. It doesn’t obviously sparkle but as you wear it there are glittering moments throughout its development.

Pierre Aulas and Sonia Constant were the team to bring Swarovski Edition to life and their inspiration piece was the Swarovski Star Shadow clutch bag made exclusively for their celebrity clients at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. This is most evident in the design of the bottle but also in the design of the fragrance as the perfumers, just like the clutch, made the middle of Edition where things get very intense and glittery as rose and gardenia provide the heartbeat. It is a subtly sparkly fruity floral with a great amount of style.

M. Aulas and Mme Constant chose to have each phase of Edition be a duality of notes. The pairing in the top notes is clementine and red currant. The clementine is that intensely sweet citrus complimented by the jammy heavier quality of the currant. Here the clementine is the crystal to the currant’s solidity. The heart is made up of rose and gardenia. The rose is a very gentle application of rose and it is delicate and lilting; the real force is the gardenia as the perfumers capture the flower, the greenery, and a bit of the woodiness. This is again done with a finesse that I rarely come across in mainstream fragrances. The base is made up of clean cedar and something all too often found in mainstream fragrances, white musk. Very often it is this single note which turns the tide from pleasant to unpleasant for me. In the case of Edition M. Aulas and Mme Constant tame this unruly beast and send out a purring silky version of it in the base of Edition and this time I really found it to be very pleasant to find it in my perfume.

Swarovski Edition has average longevity and average sillage.

It becomes harder and harder for me to recommend mainstream fragrances as they all seem to coalesce into a fruity floral mass of similarity. I think Edition manages to stand out from that crowd and when someone asks me for a recommendation I’m going to tell them to follow the sparkle to Swarovski Edition.

  • Great draw from Clarins. I’m happy to try a mainstream fragrance that you recommend! I really like enameled perfume bottles that are decorated with Swarovski crystals. I am drawn to all things sparkly.

  • My favorite Swarovski thing is a beautiful figure with the shape of a little dog that my husband (then boyfriend) gave me as a present many years ago.
Now I have some other figures: koalas, sea horses, penguins, agapornis, kingfisher… All are lovely!

Thank you for the great draw!

  • A couple of Swarovski martini glasses at $500 the pair would be lovely some day, but I’ll settle for a sample of the perfume. Thanks for running this contest. I just created a martini perfume, so that’s why. People love it, but it has almost no base notes.

  • I wanted to see that sparkly dress in action so I found the Prabal Gurung Fall Winter 2010 Fashion Show on You Tube. I’m far more into perfume that fashion but I do appreciate beautiful things.

My dream bling is a glammed out Swarovski perfume-vial holding necklace.

  • Queen Cupcake says:

I love all things Swarovski but my favorite thing is my vintage necklace of Swarovski pagoda beads. Thanks for this drawing!

  • I love Swarovski crystals on the ends of a flat-weave lariat-style necklace. I agree that less is more but less, used judiciously, is gorgeous!!!

    xoxox

  • I have a beautiful Swarovski necklace that was the first piece of jewelry my boyfriend ever gave me. I would love to try this fragrance.

  • The first picture of the post made me think of how I dreamed about crystal beads like that while I was in elementary school! Whoa, I don’t know why, but this rainbows and fireworks of light must have been the symbols of adult life…

I would love to add a crystal to a non-obvious place — an inside of the cap of a perfume bottle. A little secret between me and my bottle 😉 I agree with Mark, non-obvious places are the best!

Thank you for the draw, 15 bottles is generous indeed!

  • David Rhaybans says:

Would love to have a bottle of this and Bond No. 9 Harrods Oud with the Swarovski crystals. Beautiful.

  • I don’t have anything Swarovski yet, but am thinking I would love a Swarovski-encrusted wristlet, just for everyday! I would also love to win this Swarovski Edition. Thanks so much for the very generous draw!

  • When one hears the name Swarovski, they automatically think of the item being classy and precious. Something luxurious and for the rich. & THAT is exactly how I feel when I wear Aura by Swarovski (you guys know it is one of my top favorite fragrances) Aura imo is very chic and luxurious, & seductive in an mysterious (almost) gothic way. Aura is different then a lot of the other fragrances I have tested so far, (some others slightly similar in notes, but overall Aura shines out as the best) Anything from CFG (in my experience of testing) has been well crafted. & that is exactly what matters: QUALITY!

As simple as the notes are in this new Swarovski Edition, I am very interested in trying it. I would blind buy it Just based off the brand & knowing it is through CFG. Not to mention, It is hard to find a good gardenia fragrance… I don’t have very many “gardenia” fragrances in my collection, so I do actually have hope in this one.

Good article btw, & all you perfumistas stay well! (hugs)

  • I’ve got some stud earrings that are vintage Swarovski…given their size and my hair, they are often hidden, but then they pop out for a moment of ninja sparkle every so often.

  • I lOVE Swarovski jewelries, some day I will have very big collection of it lol Thanks for draw!

  • I love the Swarovski dove figurines. They are not necessarily jewellery, but beautiful, little items to admire from time to time.

    Thanks for the generous draw!

  • Harrods Swarovski Limited Edition is something that I would love to see in my wardrobe. One can dream…
    Thank you for the draw!

  • Wow, I love that Star Shadow bag,.

I have Swarovski crystals that are just loose that I can heat-set onto anything I want. They come in luscious colors but I have a scad of Aurora Borealis that I bought to use in a quilt.

    This perfume sounds nice!

  • Edition sounds like some thing I would really love, please enter my name in the draw! I have to say I covet those gorgeous Swarovski crystal-encrusted “perfume dagger” lay-down bottles they make for Caron, but I also like their whimsical animals and flowers.
