Sam Rader of Daesin
Los Angeles based perfume house Daesin which launched with Winter, returns with Spring (later still to come are the remaining seasons, Summer and Autumn); just when we need it most, as the darn groundhog Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow yesterday and that heralds six more weeks of winter. Born in the kitchen of artisan perfumer Sam Rader, the founder of Daesin- the brand is hand blended and bottled in small batches from “…raw materials sourced from around the globe including: natural essential oils and absolutes, precise co2 extractions, and modern aroma molecules and isolates.” The fragrances are meant for both women and men by design. Even the packaging is a vibrant hue, daring you to bring your winter worn visuals to an exciting palette, and to firmly align the fragrance with its promise of renewal. Says Daesin: “The blend evokes a sunny spring morning…”
John Singer Sargent Judith Gautier (also known as by the-river or resting by a spring1885
Spring is vetiver- and the way the vetiver here warms is the morning, starting out a realization of the note- much like waking in the morning to the awareness of something you recognize: the dawn. Vetiver is a grass which many consider a perfume unto itself. Called the “oil of tranquility” in Sri Lanka, it is emotionally calming oil which calls forth earthy, musty and woody notes. The scent of new earth and new beginnings is a perfect linchpin for Spring.
John Singer Sargent, The Black Brook c.1908
”…with a gentle breeze carrying the scent of wet earth ” A black peppered yuzu lifting the opening giving a citric lift, brightening the vetiver without taking away depth and offers excellent projection. The rose note further softens and mats the grass sharpness of vetiver, reminiscent of the feeling of first meeting the earth uncovered from snow- this, like the yuzu, remains a modifier of the vetiver grass homage.

“…budding flowers and green things to your cute little nose. Prepare to be sprung .” And I am. Suddenly alive with idea of fertile soil and the potential of gardening or merely walking through the world with short sleeves and a lightened load… if only for the lack of parka. Consistent far into dry down where violet and sandalwood diffuse even further the wonderfully earthy notes. Violet and vetiver are twin flames, an enchanting combination which offers both powder and heat- and offer clues to the unisex nature of Daesin design.
Notes: vetiver, violet, sandalwood, rose, yuzu and black pepper
