New Fragrance: PK Perfumes by Paul Kiler TNT (Tama N Tuberose) 2015 – A Fragrant Fundraiser for Tama Blough

Social Media can accomplish amazing things.  It can bring together people who have never met from all over the world, who share similar passions and interests.  Friendships develop that carry over in real time, away from the screen. At its best it, social media can help create a community, and for many, a family.

In the case of our friend and colleague Tama Blough, who has terminal cancer, social media was used to raise over $20,000 through Give Forward, (organized and managed by Nina Zolotow and a group of wonderful friends), and an additional $4000 was donated by Natural Perfumer Tanja Bochnig from the sales of San Francisco Rose. I have heard fromTama’s close friends that her health continues to deteriorate, she is bedridden and can longer respond to emails or share on Facebook. She is fighting for her life.

The expenses keep mounting and the love keeps pouring in. Today, Perfumer Paul Kiler of PK Perfumes has announced a new perfume in honor of Tama, named TNT (Tama N Tuberose). Paul had been working on this scent since 1987 and was finally able to obtain the raw material to finish the perfume this past fall.   TNT is a tuberose soliflores with added musk and ambergris to capture the scent of fresh tuberoses, an aroma that Tama adores.

“My heart was aching to find a better way to offer help to Ms. Tama Blough, with the capabilities and resources that God has blessed me with.  When I mentioned this desire to help Tama, and a fresh tuberose perfume, she liked the idea, because she said that Tuberose was so readily identified with her,” Paul says. He included a bright sun (which is a piecework from one of Tama's quilts), Tama's smiling beautiful face and her beloved Buster in the art work announcing TNT;  an amazing olfactive gesture for an amazing woman.

Paul is donating 90 percent of the proceeds of every bottle bought to Tama’s healthcare and other  expenses which will help keep her as comfortable as possible.  Paul is ushering in the New Year with a lovely perfume and a generous heart. With love there is hope…always.

    Bless her heart. Cancer is an evil I truly pray will be wiped from the face of the earth. I’ve watched family members die from cancer and pray from my heart Tama can recover. Even though I can’t buy one of the perfumes, I do send my prayers and thoughts to her. Stay strong, pray, and God be with you!

    Tuberose is found on the working tables of every spiritist healer in Cuba. It’s used to draw the good helpful spirits that aid in healing and comfort the sorrowing.

    I received my decant for review of this fragrance today, and wanted to share my thoughts on it.

    For anyone who loves the true smell of a tuberose, I feel that this would probably be high up there on the list to at least try. It opens up immediately with the tuberose, heady but fresh at the same time. It isn’t cloying at all and instead kind of floats around on my skin ethereal-like.

    I get a pinch of ambergris, but I also get a raw iris note in the fragrance as well.

    If sprayed on a card, I find it to be much more on the fresh, green side than on my skin. It’s interesting how it can be polarizing depending on where it’s sprayed.

    I would say if you’re on the lookout for a true-to-life tuberose scent, definitely try this one out, you might be in for a big surprise.

    I have been lucky enough to sample Paul Kiler of PK Perfume’s TNT, Tama N Tuberose, fragrance lately and although I do not have a lot of experience reviewing fragrances, I would like to share some words on this one.

    Right off the bat, I have to say this is unlike any floral fragrance I have ever had the pleasure of smelling before. As a headspace soliflore, TNT is nothing short of genius — how one single flower can provide this level of depth is stunning. At first sniff, the fresh, buttery tuberose is enough to make your head spin. I can almost feel velvety white petals brushing my nose while everything from swirling moments of sticky shisha tobacco to mentholated bouquets fill my head. It’s sweet, it’s heady, it’s fresh, it’s narcotic and seductive. TNT is simply brilliant, a must try for anyone interested in exploring tuberose, florals or looking for something just plain unique.

    While I did not know Tama in any personal capacity, seeing the outpouring of support for her and her family during her time of need was inspiring to say the least. Paul, you’ve created something truly beautiful for someone who was undoubtedly a wonderful person.

    I received it yesterday, the day I also received the sad news of Tama’s passing away. True to its description, Paul has gone for tuberose soliflore. Upon first sniff, it was clear Paul didn’t aim for cleaning up tuberose as some fragrances do which may be why this tuberose is earthy, a bit like Lutens Tubereuse Criminelle. the longevity is unbelievably exceptional for a natural perfume, still detectable after 15 hours, possibly also because some of the perfume might have come in contact with my shirt…it will appeal to those who enjoy Tubereuse Criminelle. It is a dark, loud, and earthy Tuberose afterall. I will always cherish my TNT because it is almost like Tama’s spirit inside the bottle.

    I never knew Tama, but it sounds like she was such a gift to the perfume community. It’s so nice the to see the support for he and her family in her time of need. I was lucky enough to receive a sample of Paul new tuberose perfume. I have never had the opportunity to smell a headspace soilarflore perfume before. On initial spay I got a wonderfully fresh, sweet, creamy tuberose. I never smelled fresh tuberose but I imagine this is what a beautiful fresh flower smells like! In the dry down the musk and ambergris peak through and compliment the tuberose. I sprayed this on in the morning and it lasted all day. If you are looking for a fresh beautiful tuberose this is one to try for sure!
