NEW FRAGRANCE: Limited Edition Astrological Collection by Strange Invisible Perfumes “What’ s Your Sign”

Strange Invisible Perfumes, the California-based  natural fragrance house, will introduce a new Limited Edition Astrological Collection  which will consist of twelve botanical fragrances representing each zodiac sign. Beginning late August 2011, each zodiac sign will be launched with its opposing sign on the astrological wheel. Drawing inspiration from her fascination with astrology. Natural  Perfumer and Founder Alexandra Balahoutis decided to use her  skills in botanical perfumery to create a personal scent for each constellation and consulted with aroma therapist  expert author Mindy Green in each formulation.

“I see the constellations of the zodiac as a palette of twelve mysterious essences. Like botanical essences, their content is complex and elusive. They somehow power aspects of our personalities and influence our lives certainly, yet without explanation.” – Alexandra Balahoutis, Perfumer and Founder

Alexandra developed recipes that reflect her unusually nuanced interpretation of the zodiac. Having consulted world-renowned aroma therapist and author Mindy Green, she  selected ingredients that honor and balance the essences of each constellation.  “We all have more than one sign. I think there is an overt and fascinating correlation between the layers of constellations within a person’s natal chart and the defining layers of a perfume composition. This is why I encourage people to wear the astrological perfume they most admire, rather than feeling limited to their sun sign. They can be layered as well. Interpreting the essences of each astrological symbol through botanical essences has been more fun than anyone should ever have at work.”

The first pair to release from this limited edition collection will be Virgo, Alexandra’s own sign, and the opposing Pisces.

Virgo features notes of neroli, baked earth, sandalwood, palo santo, rose, jasmine sambac, and temple mandarin

Pisces features frankincense, lime, angelica, jasmine, ylang ylang, cedarwood, kewda, bay leaf, and black pepper.

Libra and Aries will be introduced in September, followed by Scorpio and Taurus in October, Sagittarius and Gemini in November, Capricorn and Cancer in December, and Aquarius and Leo in January. Fragrances will be available as eaux de parfum in 1.7 fl. oz. custom engraved bottles hand-painted with sterling silver and will all sell for $275.

  • Zboudreaux all strange invisible perfumes are pricy as are some notable natural perfumers
Limited editions and the fact that this is being offered in the manner of a custom scent is probably the reason
    The flacon is stunning
Again quality over quantity and it’s always best to sample
Unless you are buying it simply for your sign

  • Interesting concept. Well presented article . I also have a perfume named for my star sign called Gemini. Welcome to the concept of the stars!

I’m really eager to see the September releases as I am an Aries and my partner is a Libra!

What a neat idea for a new collection, I wish them much success!

Both of the scents sound very interesting. Nice idea for
a collection. I am also a Gemini and a Guild member.

  • What a fun concept; composing art incorporating the zodiac! I have always loved Alexandra’s perfumes. I will be looking forward to all the releases, but particularly the September one of Libra.

  • Sounds so wonderful. I am a big fan of SIP. Every-time I am in LA, I visit the gorgeous store and get one bottle of perfume. I would love to try the new line.

  • Beautiful concept, I would love to hear the fine detail of how they arrived at the specific ingredients. Layering will be fun here, I’m also a Virgo (but with a rising of Scorpio and Aquarian Moon) so I’ll be curious as to what is coming up in the other signs! What wouldn’t I do to get my paws on a sample of Virgo !That quadruple Gemini back there will be thinking that as well no doubt!

  • I like very much the idea to consider astrologic signs as sign of deities, and ways of expression, we should play with, freely… We go back to the native function of the “per fumo”, between the gods, and humans beings, and we go to a definition of natural perfume as being an “emphaneis theoi”, gods (and Nature) expression.
Reading the blend list of the first signs, I’m really impatient to discover all the signs? I did not knew at all Palo Santo (sacred wood, eh ehhhh).

(not the web serie, but both are fun, creative, talented^^)

Love the SIP perfume I have and am so eager to try Virgo (my sun sign)–also looking forward to Aires (my rising). What a grand concept.

  • What a great concept!
I am Pisces and some of the notes listed are my favorites. I absolutely will have to sample this.

  • Gorgeous! I’m a Sag with a ton of Pisces in my sign & my beloved Mummy was a Pisces. I’m sure they will all be gorgeous! Can’t wait to smell them!

  • What a fun idea. Will be looking forward to the Taurus fragrance, as I am a Taurus. The virgo sounds lovely…will have to get for my Virgo friend.

  • Such an interesting concept and I like the co-creation part with both Alexandra and Mindy Green!!
I have created a blend called “VenusMars”….I am reminded to go check on it. It has been “on the shelf” for awhile now and I need to see how it is coming along!!

  • I already bought my star sign perfume 2 years ago in Austria. There’s a niche perfume house called CnR Create who is specialized is astrology perfumes. The founder is an astrologist. I like very much the Pisces perfume i bought.

Well, maybe i should try Alexandra’s version too? except that the price tag may not allow me to!

    Good day,

I am an astrologer and have made perfume recipes for each signs and planets in the past…what is interesting to do is to favor besides your sign and rising sign, the sign or its ruling planet that may be weak in your chart…that could be very helpful during difficult transits…
