New Fragrance: Bond No. 9 Andy Warhol

It is no secret that Bond No. 9 Lexington Avenue is my favorite of the five Andy Warhol  fragrances I have tested (for the flacon depicting his illustrations of shoes and the beautiful floral, spicy (cardamon) sweet creme brulee scented jus).  Since the first Bond No. 9 Silver Factory, (where it was a Beauty News NYC/Sniffapalooza Best Scent awardee)  I follow any new launch in the the series. From  A Job is a Success in New York  to Montauk, they are all part of the scent trak of my life.

The sixth scent in the collection of Andy Warhol fragrances, is not  based on where the artist lived and worked; it is about his art. Not only have Warhol’s celebrity portraits never been as sought after as they are in 2011, but the  Warhol himself is today better known and more quickly recognized than even in his lifetime—far exceeding any 15 minutes of fame.

The Andy Warhol by Bond No. 9 scent is androgynous, of course.

Top notes: Italian bergamot zest and peach juice. red rose, peach juice, and spicy cumin

Middle notes: Honeyed centifolia rose, white patchouli and cistus ambre (a Mediterranean shrub with a woody, smoky, plum-like kick similar to that of amber itself), jasmine, frankincense, and oud.

Base notes are in full-throttle late ‘60s aphrodisiac territory, with a blend of amber, intense red sandalwood, mulled plum, Madagascar vanilla bean, and musk.

World-famous for his silkscreen portraits of Marilyn Monroe, Michael Jackson, Elvis Presley, Che Guevera, Mao, Jean Michel Basquiat, Jackie O, John Lennon, Diane Von Furstenberg and Princess Di to name a few of the famous and infamous celebrities, fashion designers  and artists (and icons of Americana -the Campbell Tomato Soup can and the Coco Cola Bottle)  forever memorialized in the Pop Art style he pioneered.

His face is not only  recognized by the art world, but to the general public. For the flacon Bond No.9 chose a photo-booth portrait of a  Mad Man-esque Warhol, circa 1963 – 1964, wearing sunglasses, along with the era’s essential trench coat, white business shirt, and tie.

Andy Warhol by Bond No.9 arrives on-counter December 1st  and will be sold at Bond No. 9’s six New York stores, Saks Fifth Avenue, and bondno9.com. Price: 100 ml, $240; 50ml, $180.

  • I had no idea that he was from PA. I thought the funniest thing that I have ever read about him was his sugar only diet. Apparently, his major prefference was gummi bears and I can not fault him for that:) Im making my way around to trying various Bonds and I have yet to sniff any Warhols although I can not wait to do so:)

  • The Andy Warhol fragrance sounds nice! Those middle notes alone are really calling out to me.

My favorite (and one of my most favorites from my whole fragrance collection) is Lexington. Oh how I love that stuff.I really can’t get enough of it. I also really like Success is a Job, and New York Fling. I’ll add this one to my list of Bonds that I must try. 🙂
