New ‘Collection Croisière’ (Cruise Collection) by Perfumer Pierre Guillaume: Reinventing Aquatic Fragrances

Many perfumistas steer clear of aquatic fragrances; most contain the aroma chemical synthetic ingredient Calone which is used in so many  mainstream fragrances to evoke "sea breezes" (Calone also can smell like melon). It is a devisive note in perfumery and isn't often used in artistic perfumes.   Enter Pierre Guillaume, one of the most creative perfumers today, best known for PG Generale and Huitieme Arts. Pierre is a truly independent perfumer,  who is as much a chemist as an alchemist.  If anyone can change the olfactory "seascape" and inject new excitement  into this classification, it is Pierre.   Using travel themes and concepts of open spaces, wilderness and far-flung destinations, he will explore aquatic fragrances in his new line ‘Collection Croisière.’

Two years and three laboratories have been utilised to assemble the precise raw materials that inspired Pierre Guillaume; these include a molecular distillation of Pacific algae, a specific saline interpretation of vanilla and a fractionated distillation of Champaca. Collection Croisière will not be a simplified representation of Calone or a catalogue of iodised molecules, but instead a more complex reflection of sea, distant islands, tropical jungle; but above all… a portrait of movement.

The collection will consist of eight eaux de parfums, representing key places on Pierre’s global olfactive journey of trains planes and automobiles. The first four, Entre Ciel et Mer, Jangala, Paris Seychelles and Long Courrier will be officially launched in Milan at the 2015 Esxence -The Scent of Excellence showcase event March 26-29, 2015. The next four will follow sometime between June 2015 and February 2016.

Collection Croisière will be available in stores April 2015, in 50ml and 100ml sizes.

  • Pierre Guillaume is a genius with gourmands, making them extraordinary. I am not a fan of aquatic freshy scents so I am looking forward to sniffing these. Champaca, who would have thought

  • love the bottle design. look forward to seeing what these will unfold as acquatics do have a way of all smelling so similar. would much rather lay on a beach than smell like it from a bottle. so I am intrigued!

It will be interesting to see how different the experience of ‘aquatic’ qualities will be in this line from the more familiar interpretations, especially using actual seaweed as raw materials–I can see how this could be either marvelous…or rank 😉

Pierre is quite entrepreneurial..this is his like 4th perfume line or something like that

  • Pacific algae! I love the smell of the sea but have yet to find an aquatic scent I can wear. Wonderful ideas and beautiful bottles, too.
