When disasters happen we can feel overcome by helplessness and devastation   Somehow an Act of G-d is easier to accept than the recklessness of mankind. In our fragrance community, a terrible event has taken place.

Burned ceiling after the fire

On August 3 in Providence Rhode Island,  a careless strung out over the hill ex musician (I hope he reads this)  flung his lit cigar out the window and Perfumer Charna Ethier of Providence Perfume Co beautiful store on 31 Wickeden Street (opened April of 2013) was severely damaged destroying almost everything but her perfume.  That is a miracle.

The long road to reconstruction begins. Charna won our CaFleureBon’s  hardest working perfumer award  last year as she balances  retail, perfumery, and a family. Now this. She has more hard work ahead. We need your help.   This is not a kickstarter, Charna is not looking for a handout, just support of her perfumery that so many of our readers enjoy. If there is a draw on CaFleureBon she’s in.

It will take longer to rebuild than August

She has given over 50 perfumes away in the past years.  For every full sized bottle of fragrance you buy online here, she is offering 20 percent off using the code CFBphoenix. This is not a fire sale; this is the scent of hope. All perfume is in perfect condition.Project Phoenix.

I often see people tossing their cigarettes, whatever out of their cars. It is such a careless thing to do. This is the exact reason. In CA it is illegal to do this. It should be illegal across the entire country. Fire destroys. Cigarettes/cigars have embers in them – they belong extinquished in a proper disposal. Not in the beautiful outdoors. We are destroying our environment – c’mon people!! – wake up. Sad story, hope all rally around.

  • Oh my goodness. That’s terrible. I will have a look on the website and see if there is anything that takes my fancy to buy. Good luck to Charna with the re-build. x

  • This really breaks my heart. It’s a terrible shame that some people don’t even consider the impact that their behavior can have on others. I’ll definitely be checking out the website and would love to do what I can to help support putting the pieces back together.

  • Thank you for the support Ca Fleure Bon and readers have shown me over the years. It’s very kind of you Michelyn to post this, and I am thankful for you helping spread the word about our fabulous fire sale. We are rebuilding and hope to have our perfumery back up and running at 100% shortly.

  • I was so saddened to hear about this senseless event on Instagram and I wish Charna and those who are working with her lots of love and a quick rebuild of the store!

  • Positive thoughts for you Charna. One person’s sad carelessness can never outweigh the huge amount of care you put into this or all the beauty you’ve created. Hope to see the shop fully restored soon!

it is really heartbreaking story…I often take the initiative of stepping on cigarette people throw on the footpath without making sure it is not a potential hazard…i mean how much time and effort it takes to step on a cigarette after you throw it away…but i am also so glad i don’t smoke, drink, or do drugs because any one of these activities increase your risk of becoming a danger to the society

  • Thank you for doing this! Just placed my modest order in hopes that it helps. The fume community really rallys around! Good luck with the rebuilding Charna.

  • What an awful event, and what a kind gesture to help.. Am not familiar with their scents, but I’m popping over to the site now.

  • You’ll rebuild quickly and with a great spirit, Charna, I know you will. Your energy and vision will make your store better than ever!

  • So sorry to hear of the fire, just placed my first order with prayers and best wishes for Charna and family.

  • Charna has this awesome fragrance community to lift her up during this difficult time. I’ll be checking out the site, too.
