Saskia Havekes, an Australian florist who owns a boutique called Grandiflora, has orchestrated the creation of two different perfumes, created by world renowned perfumers (Michel Roudnitska and Sandrine Videault) focus on the flower she named her shop after, the Magnolia Grandiflora. Enlisting two masters of perfumery, scents were created that share a name but have different personalities. The fragrances were launched exclusively to Grandiflora last year, but have now been made available to a larger audience through LuckyScent.
Grandiflora Magnolia Michel, by the perfumer Michel Roudnitska, is the culmination of a project he was working on for his own pleasure: recreating the scent of the magnolias that bloom on his family estate in Grasse. M. Roudnistska, known for Frederic Malle’s Noir Epices and for his work with Parfums DelRae, is devoting less and less time to his perfumery art in favor of his photography and world travels, so to have a new fragrance release is exciting. His version of the perfume focuses on the lush, waxy magnolia in full bloom, with a sultry, woody undercurrent. Notes include lemon, bergamot, grapefruit, jasmine, ylang-ylang, rose, magnolia, vetiver, patchouli and musk.
Grandiflora Magnolia Sandrine is the last perfume created by perfumer Sandrine Videault before her untimely passing last year. She studied with Michel Roudnitska's father Edmond Roudnitska, and is known primarily as the creator of Lez Nez Manoumalia. For Grandiflora Magnolia, she chose to focus on the bright aspects of the magnolia, and created a fragrance that captures the dewy, fruity nature of a fresh magnolia at dawn. Notes include lemon, grapefruit, white pepper, fresh garden accords, dry wood accords, marine-aquatic accords, and musky accords.
Grandiflora Magnolia Michel and Grandiflora Magnolia Sandrine are available for $185 for 100 mls at Luckyscent.
