Nick Steward of Gallivant
One of 2017’s most memorable launches is GALLIVANT Fragrances for Urban Explorers, founded by Nick Steward, the former Creative Director of L’Artisan Parfumeur. In collaboration with perfumers Giorgia Navarra and Karine Chevalier, the inaugural collection took us to Tel-Aviv, Brooklyn, London and Instanbul. Each perfume is hand crafted in England and finished in Paris. Where we will be headed next?
AMSTERDAM Eau de Parfum (created with perfumer Giorgia Navarra). Amsterdam is floral, spicy, woody – the conceptual imagining of a black tulip.
“The moment I want to capture is autumn going into winter. The freedom of cycling, past the former spice warehouses of the Warmoesstraat to a canalside apartment on Prinsengracht on the elegant south side of the city. Wind in your hair. Now we’re inside. It’s getting dark. It’s gezellig. That quintessential ingredient of good Amsterdam living – it’s cosy. Warm. Flowers in the window. Cake and feeling indulged. Beautifully made wooden furniture. Dark hues on the walls.”
A genre-defying floral, spicy, woody, ambery fragrance, the conceptual imagining of a black tulip. A spicy aromatic head of elemi, schinus molle co2 extract, Szechuan pepper and saffron. The floral heart contains tulip and rose with a base of cedarwood, musks, sandalwood and amber.
BERLIN Eau de Parfum (created with perfumer Karine Chevallier) Berlin is woody, citrus, spicy – a contrast of light and dark.
“I want to evoke the concrete and steel of Berlin – and the forest and lakes on the edge of the city. Carefree summers, the freshness of the water, swimming at the Strandbad Wannsee. And gritty urban living, it’s leather, smoke, spices, cups of black tea, being inside and underground. Decadent, poor but sexy. It’s a city of brutalist apartment blocks, concrete, elegant parquet floors, modern bohemians.”
Light and dark. A citrus, spicy, woody play of notes. Fresh and zingy top notes of grapefruit, clementine, lemon and schinus molle co2 extract. A spicy heart containing black pepper and black tea, and woody undertones of Haitian vetiver, cedarwood and patchouli.
