Fragrance Review: L’Arganique Beaute (Laurie Petrucci) 2013 + Golden Hammam in Marrakesh Draw

Alexandra Tomlinson Elle UK David Vasiljevic

You will never hear me complain about winter. Summer in the South is long and brutal; winter is a welcome respite. I love the long cold nights and cherish every snowflake and dreary, sub-freezing day. So you can imagine how surprised I was when I fell hard for a fragrance that is blissfully warm and golden….basically sunshine in a bottle:  L’Arganique Beaute.

Laurie Petrucci is the founder of L’Arganique Beaute. Ms. Petrucci was inspired by Morocco, with its precious argan oil, and the rituals of Hammam. Childhood memories of time spent on her family’s farm, combined with her love of the spa experience and a desire to create her own all-natural spa signature scent led her on a journey that has resulted in the creation of her own company and her first luxury scent collection, which includes candles and perfume oils, as well as the Eau de Parfum, which was created in 2013.

Marella Agnelli in Vogue, October, 1967

L’Arganique Beaute opens with a Bourrée of ripe, succulent berries and effervescent champagne. The berries are as lush and rich as a fine liqueur, while the champagne note adds sparkle and exuberance. My bias towards base notes well documented; top notes are generally something I generally endure while waiting for the good stuff, but the opening of L’Arganique Beaute is one of the loveliest I’ve experienced in quite some time, almost vintage in character.

The luscious berries melt in to a golden heart of sumptuous, honeyed mimosa. In Europe, mimosa has a strong association with Spring, but I am only familiar with it as one of my favorite notes in perfumery, and the mimosa in L’Arganique Beaute does not disappoint. It smells like honey drenched skin, warmed by the sun and waiting for a kiss…sensuous, yet innocent. My husband loved this portion of it, and thought it smelled very intimate. The warm, polleny characteristic of mimosa is beautifully complemented by argon oil, as well as a touch of sweet, dry patchouli. The argon oil enhances the golden warmth of the mimosa while the patchouli adds a grounding earthiness to the fragrance.

Talitha Getty for Vogue, 1967

The plush mimosa fades away gracefully, lending warmth and sweetness to the woody base. L’Arganique Beaute is beautiful from start to finish, with excellent longetivity (12 hours) and above average sillage, which garnered several compliments. While I am usually not one to pay much attention to gender classifications in my fragrance choices, I have to say that L’Arganique Beaute is probably best left to the ladies. But you gentlemen will in no way be deprived of pleasure from trying it secondhand. It gives new meaning to the term “shared fragrance” and I highly recommend the experience!

Notes: Fruit, French champagne, mimosa, patchouli

DISCLOSURE My review is based on a sample given to me by Ms. Petrucci.

  • This sounds so good! I love berries and mimosa! Tammy’s quote “top notes are generally something I generally endure while waiting for the good stuff, but the opening of L’Arganique Beaute is one of the loveliest I’ve experienced in quite some time”, makes L’Arganique Beaute even more enticing. I live in the US. Thanks for this draw.

  • Interesting that there is actually a note called French champagne. I personally love Mimosa fragrances….lovely springtime not. The combo of the notes in here sound great! My first introduction to a Mimosa based fragrance was L’Artisan Mimosa Pour Moi. I am in the US and would love to be entered.

  • I love how she refers to it as sunshine in a bottle!! Berries and Mimosa sound like such a great combo!!! NYC 🙂

I love what she said about “honey drenched in skin” – usually you hear the reverse, but this phrase just sounds so sumptuous and sexy. I’m in the USA and I LOVE mimosa. It is sunny and bright, polleny and powdery in a sweet and completely incomparable way.

  • Someone planted mimosas along my grandmother’s street in Siuth Carolina. It was the only thing blooming in the summer heat. It’s a fragrance I’ve liked a lot since. I didn’t know argan oil had much of a fragrance. Sounds very cheery. Thanks for the draw!

Thanks for the review! This is a wonderful & seductive addition in my perfume collection when I won a full bottle of L’Arganique Beaute last year, thanks to Ms. Pettruci (Founder and CEO) and Cafleurebon. The perfume is tender, lovely, and sweet that pleased noses even who avoid fragrances. The last paragraph is the epitome of the review & fascinating. My Spa desitination will be North Carolina’s Westglow Spa and Amara Spa, Park Hyatt Dubai, Deira.
Once again Thanks to Laurie Pettruci, Founder and CEO – L’Arganique Beaute de Parfum Green Acres LJP and Cefleurebon for the opportunity to participate in the draw.

  • Unlike Tammy, I love the warm weather. You can be out and about all year. A fragrance of sunshine and warmth is for me. I also really like mimosa, but have no idea what argon oil in perfume would be like. I use argon oil for my face and sometimes my body. L’Arganique Beaute sounds lovely. USA.

  • This sounds right up my alley, so much to crave here–champagne, honeyed mimosa, berries, woody base. I like anything described as sunshine in a bottle. I live in the USA, and hope to soon go to Ten Thousand Waves, a Japanese style spa in Santa Fe, NM. Thank you for the generous draw!

I live how this is a sunshine in a bottle that lasts 12 hours on average. Sounds like how long sunshine lasts on average! I live in Malaysia. I don’t have a favorite spa destination and I don’t know how argan oil and mimosa smell like.

I am intrigued by L’Arganique Beaute because it has been inspired by Morocco that also inspired many beautiful perfumes by Lutens.Tammy reports L’Arganique Beaute has one of the most beautiful openings she has ever experience and it is golden and warm, quite suitable for cold wear. thanks a lot for the draw. If I were to choose, I would really love to experience the cold springs in Japan. I am in the US.

  • I love the idea of sunshine in a bottle and that the inspiration comes from her childhood in Morocco. I don’t have a favorite spa destination. I wish I did. I’ve used argan oil in my hair and liked the scent. Thanks for the draw. I live in the USA.

  • I very like the scent of mimosa. And the french champagne is sounds very lovely also. This perfume could be beautiful. I would very like to try it. Thank you very much for the draw. I live in Europe.

  • I like the floral part which mixes with dry patchouli and supported by that. Also, I like the bottle and from what I am seeing I can say the bottle is elegant. Living in Texas, US.

  • I am very intrigued by this fragrance as Argan oil is an integral component of its scent; I use several argon beauty products but never realized the oil had an appealing smell on its own. I am in the US and I appreciate the opportunity to try this.

  • doveskylark says:

I love the idea of a shared fragrance. I also love the combination of mimosa and berries in fragrance. I’ve never thought about argon oil in a fragrance, but I do love it as a hair oil. My dream spa destination would be the Canyon Ranch in the Berkshires of Massachusetts.
    I live in the USA.

  • I am interested in the use of argon oil in this fragrance, since I am not familiar with that element. Per mimosa note, I will always love Champs Elysees. My ideal spa destination is anywhere with swaying palm trees! I live in the US. Thank you!

  • I also am usually motivated by base notes, so it’s encouraging to hear that this has such a lovely opening, even for someone that doesn’t usually take to opening notes. Mimosa is just wonderful and sounds like the perfect floral to balance out argan and patchouli. I’d love to have a true hammam spa experience in Morocco! I live in Canada, thank you.

  • Honey drenched skin appeals most to me. I’ve always loved honey and honey in fragrance! My most favorite fragrance with mimosa was the Diptyque limited edition of the 34 line from 2014. That was a gorgeous fragrance in a gorgeous bottle. My dream spa would be Viva Mayr in Austria. I follow the plan after reading the book in 2010 (most of the time) and it keeps my menopausal self in shape with great skin. Thanks for the draw. I live in the U.S.

What sounds most appealing about L’Arganique Beaute? Based on Tammy’s review I’m curious to smell a mimosa based fragrance that we gentlemen will in no way be deprived of pleasure from trying it secondhand. The description tells me of a feminine leaning perfume but who cares? my gf loves wearing L’Ambre des Merveilles but I also like putting it on myself so she gets sarcastic at me saying thanks for helping to finish the bottle faster hahaha.
I currently live in California, USA and having a massage in the almost paradise location of Caramoan, CamSur, or Coron, Palawan (both in the Philippines) drenched in mimosa or argon oil is my perfect spa destination.

  • Iuno Feronia says:

Berries, Mimosa, Champagne…. spring can come. It sounds very appealing. In winter I used twice a day Argan Oil to protect my Skin from cold, now I would like to hve l’Arganique Beaute to protect my mood from bad vibrations ;-))

I live in the EU, thanks for the draw!

  • The champagne and berry notes as well as the mimosa make this perfume sound effervescent! I would love to give it a try. (And I love the photos illustrating the perfume!) I live in USA. Thank you.

  • French champagne note sounds tempting and I would love to try it. Is it really a shared fragrance?
I am a fan of argan oil cosmetics but never tried argan oil fragrance.
I live in the EU. Thanks for the draw.

  • This fragrance must smell like a blossoming garden which, in my opinion, is better than any kind of spa. “Blissfully warm and golden” perfume is what I need now. I’d be so happy to win a rollerball. Thank you for the draw and greetings from Norway.

  • My favorite spa destination is Kerala, India.
I love mimosa in summer perfume, reminds me of the lazy vacation days.

    I am in USA.

  • Sounds delicious! Beach spa places are my favorite but having a beautiful perfume experience can take you away too! I’m in the US and would love to experience this sunny scent.

  • I love the photos, especially Shalom Harlow by Ellen von Unwerth. Mimosa always makes me happy and relaxed and any spa surrounded by blossoming mimosa would be great. Thank you for so nice draw.

“Sunshine in a bottle”with a dominant mimosa note must be lovely. I like cosmetics with argan oil but never tried any fragrance with this oil as a carrier – sounds like a great idea.
My favorite spa location would be somewhere in Turkish Riviera.
I live in Europe. Thanks for the draw.

  • Thank you for the review. I’ve been curious about this fragrance for some time. Agran oil is one of my very favorite for hair and skincare and I like its smell. This and mimosa and berries must smell like a real pleasure.
The spa of my dreams is Laugarvatn Fontana in Iceland. I live in the EU.

  • Anna Egeria says:

I’ve used argan oil for years and I know that it’s a wonderful carrier oil for fragrance. I love berries and especially mimosa.
I live in the US and thank you for this draw.

  • I love the fruits mixed with the champagne. Sounds very bright and sparkling. I love using argan oil in general, so it being in a fragrance is wonderful! I’m in Canada and thanks for the draw.
