Event Report: 2017 Taste TV Pop-Up Artisan Fragrance Salon at Zinc Details in San Francisco + That’s What Friends are For Swag Bag

On Saturday, February 4, 2017 nine perfumers gathered at Zinc Details, a home furnishings store located 1633 Fillmore St, San Francisco, for the 2017 Taste TV Fragrance Salon Pop-Up shop. There were supposed to be ten brands present, but Dr. Ellen Covey of Olympic Orchids, couldn’t make it due to a canceled flight from Seattle. The weather that weekend was horrible but thanks to the exhibitors, we are pleased to give you an overview of the show.

Shelley Waddington of En Voyage Perfumes, exhibited the brands favorites and award-winners.

Also available for the first time on the West Coast, are Shelley's collaborations with Victor Wong of Zoologist… Hummingbird and the newly released Zoologist Civet.

A Wing & A Prayer Perfumes debuted two new all-natural fragrances by Jane Cate: Release Me Rose (Rosa damascena, tuberose, Turkish rose, wild rose and vetiver), Fig Leaf (fir absolute, jasmine, jasmine sambac and yuzu). Hand Satins are non-greasy hand balm savailable  in four different scents: Fig, Bergamot & Mint, Honey Nectar and Naturally Beautiful (unscented).

Maison Anonyme, a recently established house from Los Angeles that puts a premium on innovation and presentation, showcased the three perfumes that it debuted at the Hammer Museum last spring. For the pop-up, Maison Anonyme also unveiled a modernist-inspired universal room and body mist, which was taken up by the event host – Zinc Details – and is now stocked by the high-end interior design shop.

Perfumer Esperança Cases of El Jardí Secret (The Secret Garden) is a small workshop located in Catalana, Spain dedicated to creative perfume. The brand had exhibited at the Aix Scent Fair in Los Angeles and won a "Top Artisan Fragrances 2016 "silver award. At the show she presented “NU" (Urban Nature) perfume, inspired by the squares of Barcelona, ​​which are based on cement and vegetation to create a neutral framework. "Lola 1958" Solid perfume inspired by the description of the fragrance of the garden, from the book "My house and my garden" (1958) by the writer and illustrator Lola Anglada (1892-1984). This perfume is presented in silver leaves with four different finishes from the collection. Grief, an interpretation of the sculpture of J. Llimona.

Ineke Perfumes and Dannielle Sergent of Cognoscenti left

Cognoscenti presented the full fragrance collection including their latest No 30 Hay Incense. In addition, Dannielle Sergent introduced new bath and beauty products: Room Sprays, special soaps and masks in scents No 1 Bergamot Sage, No 30 Hay Incense, Neroli/Teak and a fresh floral called Italian Woods. (not available online).

Velvet and Sweet Pea’s Purrfumery showcased Natural Perfumer Laurie Stern’s new fragrances: Highway, Eze, and Rose Encens, along with the full line.

Mik of Mikmoi showcased 'sessions' from his meditation collection, an intricate aromatherapy blend that became a perfume and knight of flowers a spicy masculine floral of stargazer lily, bay rhum and civet.

Meshaz Natural Perfumes and Ineke Perfumes were popular destinations for perfumistas, as was La Fleur de Livvy by Livvy Larsen who presented a new collection.

Thank you to all the artisans who helped us pull this together by sending us previews of what they would exhibit when we learned Ellen’s flight was cancelled.     The offerings by A Wing and a Prayer interest me, as I am always looking for new fig fragrances to try. Also Olympic Orchids and their enticing ingredients. I have tried only Zoologist Hummingbird from the scents listed. I am drawn to niches because there are no boundaries–and also I don’t want to smell like everyone else! Thank you for this giveaway!

    Olympic Orchids is always interesting and was most likely sorely missed at this pop-up shop. I love Zoologist and can’t wait to try Civet! I am just getting into artisan perfumes and am finding them to be far more interesting than most mainstream scents; they tell me stories and take me on journeys…I am in the US and really appreciate the chance to win such a lovely, varied selection of perfumes.

    This is so interesting!!! The Madison Anonyme and the Olympic Orchid scents intrigue me the most and also the fragrance called A wing and a Prayer sound so lovely, I love Fig scents like fico do amalf!! I’d love to give them a try. Niche is awesome, who doesn’t appreciate the art of fragrance.

    Really wish I could dip my toe into artisan perfumery more…which is part of why this article has me drooling! I’ve been dying to try to Zoologists, particularly civet. And Cognoscenti’s “Hay and Incense” sounds like a curious combination of two fave notes of mine…that I wouldn’t necessarily combine! I am familiar with Ineke and the well-crafted florals I’ve smelled from that line so far. Thank you so much for this draw! I’m in the US

    It has been always hard for me to put hands on and sampling Artisan perfumery. I am really interested because these days I rarely try designers perfumes; anytime tried I got disappointed. Only tried two samples of Zoologist. Live in the US.

    What an amazing giveaway! I love artisan perfumes, and there are many houses here I haven’t heard of yet. The rose perfumes interest me (Rose Encens and Release Me Rose), and Mardi Gras and Cafe V from Olympic Orchids. Also… Hay Incense? So intrigued! Actually, I would be excited to test all of these, it’s a great selection. I am in the US.

    I loved that El Jardí Secret came all the way from Spain. Esperança ‘s perfumes were phenomenal! I love artisan perfumes because of the personal touch the nose leaves in their perfumes. There are often very special ingredients, and I find artisan perfumes often tell a story. They are inspired creations, truly works of art.

    Artisan fragrances is where I go to find something unique and I love wearing a unique fragrance. Many on this I haven’t tried anything from the house. One from the list I’d really love to experience is the Zoologist Civet. USA

    I find artisan perfume endlessly fascinating. I love the creativity and the use of fine ingredients and the accessibility of the creators. I am very curious to try Zoologist Civet, Olympic Orchids Mardi Gras, and the Ineke Floral Curiosities. I live in the US. Thank you!

    Fantastic & splendid perfume swab bag. Olympic Orchids is the one perfume house that I considered their perfumes mandatory in my collection. I requested my friend last year who was on visit to US to buy 5 perfumes for me that include 3 perfumes from Olympic Orchids but sadly he didn’t buy anything & returned empty handed. This year I’ll left no stone unturned to get Olympic Orchids perfumes as I missed the opportunity last year due to my lazy friend. I am very curious to try Zoologist Civet, Cognoscenti, and Pale Fire by Maison Anonyme.

    En Voyage Fiore di Bellagio was one of the first artisan fragrances I tried when I renewed my interest in fragrance a few years ago. It’s a thrill to think about experiencing Shelley Waddington’s collaboration with Zoologist Perfumes. I’ve not yet tried anything from Olympic Orchids though my ears always perk up when I hear Dr. Covey’s name. Her fragrances elicit such excitement from her fans.

    Thank you for sharing this look into the Taste TV Fragrance Salon Pop-Up Shop. I wish I had been there to smell the fabulous-ness and see firsthand some of the wonderful creators who make artisan fragrance. And thank you for the draw. I am in the US.

    Artisan perfumes have always held a special place in my heart. Those of Olympic Orchid and En Voyage are two whom I’ve sampled in the past.     Exploring artisan perfume is always fun. Lot’s of great finds. This bag has houses represented I have not experienced as of yet. If I was picked for this swag bag I believe I’d try the Pale Fire first. 🙂 usa

    I’m a big fig leaf person, and I love exploring small, unique batches of perfume. I especially like the idea of the Olympic Orchards scents, as I’ve seen them really hyped by a bunch of people I read. I know I’ve heard about Mik Moi somewhere, but I can’t remember where, I would love to try those meditation scents! I’m very into meditating, it’s such an adventure inward.

    I like the wide variety of the artisan scents mentioned here — I think variety is the great surprise of perfume, that there can be so many different options that you wouldn’t expect! I am super interested in Pale Fire actually btw.

    Lucky San Franciscoers! They seem to have access to numerous niche perfume events! These lines all sound interesting. I am familliar with the works of EnVoyage, Olympic Orchids and Sweet Pea and Violet but I would love to become more familiar with the rest of these brands, in particular Meshaz and also La Fleur by Livvy. I am in the USA. Thanks for the chance.

    I only have the greatest respect for these creators! They now can turn the concepts inside their heads and make a product from them. I’m in the vicinity yet I didn’t hear about it, could have been nice to meet and talk to them in person. Been looking forward to smelling Civet from Zoologist and Olympic Orchid’s Seattle Chocolate but that doesn’t mean I won’t sniff the rest.

    I am especially excited about Zoologist Hummingbird and Civet, but there are a lot of brands here I haven’t tried and have been looking forward to trying for so long. I love seeing all of these creative names for creative fragrances – combinations only these artisans could dream up and carry out!

    Artisanal fragrances appeal to me because I love to experience the back story and the inspiration behind the creation. I often learn about history and botany and mythology from these artists. I am very interested in the Zoologist line, especially Hummingbird and Civet. I used to dream of being a zoologist.

    I love the creative works of art that come from the Artisanal Fragrances.
    I am a fan of many, at the moment I can’t get enough of Olympic Orchids Sonnet XVII. All of these sound wonderful. Civet appeals to me at the moment.
