Angel by Thierry Mugler has been a best-selling fragrance for over 15 years since its inception twenty years ago, created by perfumers Olivier Cresp and Yves de Chirin. So new, so different, it launched a new fragrance category…the oriental gourmand with its notes of Bergamot, Hedione, Helional, Honey, Dewberry, Red Berries, Vanilla, Caramel, Patchouli, Chocolate, Coumarin (it won a Hall of Fame FiFi in 2007). No doubt it’s a love/ hate Fragrance.Critics Chandler Burr and Luca Turin love it and gave it five stars. So does Eva Mendes, the new face for Angel’s ads and multimillion dollar ad campaign.According to WWD. Eva Mendes, who loves the scent according to WWD says " I grew up with AngelI remember thinking, as a child, ‘That’s what a woman smells like.’ I’m the baby [in my family] by 10 years, and my sisters wore it. It comes full circle now that I’d be the face of Angel.”
“The ad campaign was conceived by Thierry Mugler and Christophe de Lataillade, the brand’s artistic director. British director Baillie Walsh directed the film, while fashion photographers Inez van Lansweerde and Vinoodh Matadin shot the print ads. Print ads will begin running in September fashion, beauty and lifestyle magazines in the U.S., said Zrihen. TV is expected to be used regionally and on cable in the US”.
The first celebrity to star in an Angel ad was Naomi Watts. Its nice to see an accomplished Latina like Eva Mendes, who does not fit convential standards of beauty, as the face for such an iconic fragrance.
