CoSTUME NATIONAL Soul (Dominque Ropion) 2015- Perfume Review+ Italian Style Draw

CoSTUME NATIONAL Soul Collage by Michelyn..images CoSTUME NATIONAL©

Fragrance and fashion have gone hand in hand with fashion since 1925 when Coco Chanel launched CHANEL no 5. CoSTUME NATIONAL is an Italian fashion house founded in 1986 by designer Ennio Capasa. The House is known for its urban ”rocker” chic with slim and sexy silhouettes. The vibe may be avant- garde but Ennio Capasa is a master of Italian craftsmanship.  Well-known to fashionistas, but not so much to perfumistas are CosTUME National’s perfumes. The fragrances and the flacons are a study of minimalism (the first was Scent which debuted in 2002). Soul, which debuted in 2015, composed by master perfumer Dominque Ropion, is an “unsung hero. Like fashion, a great fragrance doesn’t have to be trendy to be in style. Love Amber and Oud? You Gotta Have SOUL.

  • I love all of Sebastian’s reviews (including this one) and have spent way too may hours lying in bed watching his youtube videos on TV. I am familiar with Costume National and have worn some of their fragrances in the past. I sometimes buy what is new but not always. I reside in the USA.

  • fazalcheema says:

I have Costume National Pour Homme that you have shown in the video. It is nuclear, just one spray has monster sillage and unbelievable longevity. I have not smelled Soul but from your review, it justifies what you would expect from the color of the perfume, something warm, spicy, patchouli, and fit for holiday season. I am in US. BTW, I don’t know if others might have noticed but Costume National Homme will def. appeal to those who fell in love with Salvatore Ferragamo Pour Homme from early 2000s or before that, that had signature fig note.

  • Thanks to Sebastian for introducing another great niche aroma to us. Amber and vanilla is like the perfect winter scent. I can imagine this one underneath a warm sweater. Awesome!

  • williams zunun says:

I have never tried, I would love to. Thanks to Sebastian, and sharing his amaizing videos and I usually don’t buy what’s new, i stay with the same ones I own unless i fall in love with a new perfume/fragrance

  • Gabriel Garcia says:

Costume national sounds really good, I’ve never tried it before, and the play in the notes are interesting.
I would love to experience it.
    Thanks!

  • JerryWRivera0 says:

I’ve never heard of CoSTUME NATIONAL before but what I like most about Sebastian’s reviews are that I can count on him to always introduce us to the latest and greatest in fragrance.

  • Carlos Guzman says:

Very interesting review by Sebastian. I’ve tested Costume National and I have CN 21 and I’m very impressed with the House. Looking forward to try Soul very soon

  • I love Sebastian’s passion for fragrance. I don’t always buy what’s new, but I’m always looking for the next fragrance that may blow my mind. I have heard good things about CoSTUME NATIONAL, but I haven’t tried anything from them yet. Soul sounds like it would be right up my alley and I am a woman: It’s ok that it leans masculine…it doesn’t bother me at all. I would love a chance to win. I am in the United States.

  • I would like to be entered in the giveaway. Sebastian always gives in depth reviews of a fragrance to give his viewers a good idea of what to expect from a Cologne. I don’t always buy new because I would never be able to keep up with new releases.
I have heard of costume national before but I’ve never tried any of their fragrances.

  • Robert Cunningham says:

    Greetings,
I thoroughly enjoy Sebastian’s take on fragrances as he is an experienced nose with a passion for perfumery that shows. I don’t always buy whats new. What’s new doesnt translate into what’s good. I have a sample of Costume National Soul and it is superb. I have my fingers crossed tightly for a chance to win a full bottle.

  • Sebastian has a way of making me intrigued about every house or scent he reviews! This one is no different, especially since I love a good amber for the winter time! I don’t always buy what’s new… something has to speak to me to make me want it, new or not. I’ve definitely heard of Costume National… I’m a fan of their style and aesthetic. I remember them being big in the 90s when minimalism in fashion was all the rage. I am in the USA. Thanks!

  • I’ve watched tons of Sebastian’s YouTube reviews and never knew that his favorite fragrances were vanilla, amber and patchouli, so this I have to try! I never buy what is new but typically wait to wear it and see some other reviews first. I’m not familiar with CoSTUME National but would love to win so I can become more familiar!

  • Roger Engelhardt says:

I remember getting a sample of this when it first came out. I believe it was from Barney’s. I did like it very much, but I saw that the basenoters were not impressed!
I did want a bottle, but I had so many full bottles and so many samples, that I never got around to purchase!
Thanks to Sebastion I have a renewed interest!!
For the most part, I very rarely judge art, any art, be it fragrance, music or paintings on someone’s like or dislike, I will decide for myself.
I thought Soul was a lovely fragrance, and this review proved me correct!! I am in the USA.

  • Michael McDonald says:

I am glad that Sebastian clarified that this is masculine leaning and that it opens with a big punch to the nostrils. No, I don’t buy based off of newness or popularity. I sample everything that has been released and buy based off of what I like. I have not heard of CoSTUME National until now, but I have heard of Dominique Ropion and own EDPFM Geranium pour Monsieur

  • Gabriel Gallawa says:

I really like how you can tell when Sebastian really likes a fragrance. It’s ok to be honest in your reviews and Sebastian is. I’m not one for always wanting to buy what’s new. Sometimes I like to let some time pass to be able to do some deeper research before cracking the wallet. As for CoSTUME National, Soul is really getting a lot of attention in fragrance Facebook groups. That plus this review really has me interested.

  • Hello Friends. Thanks for another giveaway. Always enjoy Sebastian’s reviews. I have heard of coStume National before but never smelled their fragrances. Would like to get a chance
    Thanks

  • Sebastian is a great reviewer! I actually own a bottle of CoSTUNE NATIONAL Homme. I love the scent and would love to try Soul.

  • Raico Mulet says:

As always awesome review by Sebastian, very detailed , i haven’t tried anything from this house and i would definitely will check it out after listening to such a great and descriptive review , thank tou for the giveaway good luck everybody .

  • Great review have not gotten my nose on this yet. Heard great things about this house. Good luck to all!!!

  • Sebastian is the best fragrance reviewer there is. His presentation and personality are the best. His reviews are genuine and he really contributes a lot. He is also the most generous and sincere. Wonderful guy. I don’t always buy what’s new. I have heard of costume national in fragrance social groups.

  • I love Sebastain reviews. Always very detailed and very honest. Unlike most reviewers. I had a decant of Costume National Soul last year. Although I didn’t recieve many compliments, my wife said she loved this fragrance on me.

  • I think Sebastian did a very good job covering what to expect from this scent. I like that all his reviews are to the point and informative.

  • I like Sebastian honesty and on point reviews. I like to try a new releases and new perfume houses that I am not familiar with. I actually own a sanple of Costume National Soul and I like it very much. I would love to win a full bottle of that great juce! Thank you for giveaway!

  • Great review as always. Sebastian always breaks things down so well. I know of the house but haven’t tried any of their releases. I certainly don’t buy everything that’s new but this one sounds right up my alley with the dark dry down and vanilla. Excited for this one.

  • Alicia Hadde says:

So excited about this giveaway….I have not heard of this house before so thank you for bringing it to my attention. I also am a big fan of vanilla bean, amber, and patchouli. Really appreciate the review of Soul but now I would also like to try out Ohm too! What an awesome giveaway! Thank you for the opportunity and also the great review.

  • Gaston glali says:

Great review as always, I heard a lot of good things about this house but still didn’t put my hands on it yet !!

  • I have heard of this house but have not experienced any of it’s creations. I’m looking for a new winter scent. I hope Soul is it. US

  • I have heard of the brand but I have never tried any of the fragrances. I don’t always buy new things. I like the fact he gives suggestions as to when to wear a fragrance

  • Patrick Echevarria says:

Have heared of this brand a lot of times but never tried and tested any yet due to unavailability in my area. Sebastian always invokes curiousity in me whenever he reviews fragrances that I haven’t tried before, including this one. Would love to own from this house and see what it has to offer. San Diego

  • Bassam Al Rubaye says:

I like Sebastian reviews, he always picks interesting fragrances and break down the smell of the really well, in addition, I do share a similar taste with him, Iknow the house I tried one of there perfumes homme , and I am looking for new and interesting fragrances

  • william hawkes says:

I like that Sebastian introduced me to yet another interesting house and I love the thought he gives you of this fragrance reminding you of the winter holidays with your family. I usually never buy what is new because I am very selective about what I actually purchase. I have heard of Costume National Soul before, but nothing as in-depth as Sebastian’s review. It sounds like a good one! I have a USA address.

  • I, of course, like the review. I have never tried CoSTUME NATIONAL. I am interested in smelling it on me, as a woman. Always on the lookout for new fragrances for my boyfriend and I to “share”. Commenting from Las Vegas…

  • I loved Sebastian’s description of how the fragrance opens up with lots of cardamom, being a cardamom lover. I was also interested on how he said it becomes deeper and deeper as the scent dries down and develops. From Columbus, Ohio.

  • I like the context that Sebastian provides on this perfume relative to the other releases of this house. I usually don’t buy what’s new because there is just too much that I’ve not smelled. I have heard of CoSTUME NATIONAL and have smelled one or two of their perfumes.

  • Petersen Pohlen says:

I like how quick his video is and that he references other fragrances too. I do not normally buy what’s new but sample what interests me. I have heard of CoSTUME NATIONAL before but have not smelled more than one fragrance from the line.

  • FewSprays and go says:

I love watching all of Sebastian’s reviews!! I love how he explain in-depth on this costume National fragrance. I’ve heard of costume National but never came around I’m trying it. Usually don’t buy new fragrances but I get around to smelling them. Thanks for the giveaway exclamation exclamation

  • seaniedee72 says:

I’ve followed Sebastian for a few months now , and have always liked the way he talks about the frags . So much detail and knowledge . Sometimes I stay awake for hours watching videos and I can almost smell what he describes . I’ve never heard of costume national before , but definitely something I want to try . I some times always buy what’s new and mos likely what Sebastian describes .

  • I enjoy how concise Sebastian is in his videos.
I don’t usually buy what’s new. I usually wait for reviews and samples before pulling the trigger. I’ve heard of Costume National Homme, probably their most popular offering.

  • CN Soul sounds very interesting since it has lot of my favorite notes like amber, oud and cardamom. Can’t wait to try this.

  • Lara Anderson says:

Been watching Sebastian’s videos for some time now and have gotten some great recommendations from them. I haven’t had the chance to try CoSTUME National fragrances yet but the dry down of vanilla, amber, and patchouli are huge winners for me. I low a big, bold fragrance and this sounds definitely like a “must try”. Would love a chance to try this out and expand to other pieces in this fragrance line. Thanks for the opportunity to enter!

  • Steven W Drabik says:

the timing of Sebastion’s reviews are always in sync with me for some reason hah. I don’t always buy new, as there are plenty of older fragrances to try, but this one has been on my list to try for a while.

  • Nadine Cunningham says:

Nice review again Sebastian, some of my favorite notes are mentioned in this review though I’m not familiar with this house. By all accounts this seems to be a great composition that I can’t wait to get my nose on.

  • Always enjoy Sebastian’s reviews. This perfume has so interesting notes!!!
I don’t always buy new, all the more so new perfumes are not so original- I am tired of endless flankers.
I’m not familiar with this house.

  • what i loved about review is how sebastian can somehow bring to life the fragrance so much u can actually smell it,you get a pretty good idea what to expect when you buy something hes reviewed.

I do always like to try to sample the new stuff but not necessarily buy unless i love it.

And i have heard of costume national ive been dying to try soul 4 a while.

    thnx for giveaway u.s. here

  • Sebastian’s reviews are always enjoyable and informative. I was curious as to what “grey amber” is and Sebastian’s explanation makes a lot of sense. I love when a house acknowledges the perfumer behind the fragrance, and Dominique Ropion is one of my favorite noses.

I don’t buy a fragrance just because it is new, but new fragrances usually make it to my “to try” list. I have purchased vintages that are either new to me or something I want to re-experience.

    Thank you for the giveaway.
    In Illinois, U.S.A.

  • Thisis the first that I heard of this house. Watching Sebastina’s review is always informative, direct, and to the point. I agree that saying who the actual “nose” is a welcome addition. I tend to wait on things that are new. I’m interested to see what will stand the test of time and interest. Thanks for the draw. I live in the USA

  • Sebastian thank you for introducing me to another great niche aroma. Amber and vanilla, whats no to like. I will definitely have this on my wish list. I would love to try this. I live in the USA.

  • This one had made quite a buzz in the fragrance community when it was launched. The notes seem great for fall and winter.

I would love to win a FB for this.

    I like the name too!!

    In US.

  • Fernando Garcia says:

I’ve never tried any fragrance from Costume National. I would love to try this one! Thank you! I´m in the US.

  • I wore Costume National Scent some time ago and liked it a lot. I really never knew they were a fashion design company and that they were from Italy. Nice review grey amber and vanilla sounds great

  • I really enjoy Sebastian’s gentle, easy style of review in general and this one was no exception. This was yet another very informative review and the note breakdown sounds heavenly, specifically the drydown/basenotes! I’ve not had the chance to endulge in this fragrance house’s offerings yet because, honestly, this is the first time I’ve heard of them. I would LOVE to have the chance to enjoy this fragrance! Also, kudos to you Sebastian for giving this up and coming house the exposure that they clearly deserve based on your reaction of their products. Thanks a million for the opportunity to try this!

  • Dhruba Dasgupta says:

I’ve been wanting to try Costume National since they have interesting spicy and ambery scents that seem super interesting

  • Devicemanager says:

First of all Sebastian is soo Chill i love it and about this House i smelled cyber garden at a store here in Miami called Babalu located on Lincoln road in south beach and they have plenty of perfumes there but the cyber garden is great they did not have soul there but this house is very very undergroundish not many people really know about it as it being a niche brand Sebastian description of the notes is pretty awesome and the dry down part is what is key on a scent so am ready for a big bold experience thanks Cafleurebon for the chance to win this have nice day everyone 🙂

  • james weaver says:

Dominique Ropion creation seems to be a big bold experience. I do not always buy something new but i do try to investigate though… I do live in the US and THANK YOU for this draw!

  • I love when you do giveaways with Sebastian making a YouTube video review. He always make me want to buy the fragrance!
I’ve never heard of this fragrance house but am extremely interested in trying their perfumes.
When it comes to new fragrances/releases, if it’s a line I already own, I am inclined to buy it. Especially anything from Sarah Jessica Parker.
    I live in the U.S.

  • I like how Sebastian intreduce perfume and his own impressions. I think it will be very rich oriental perfume. It’ s interesting a quality of ingredients, because I’ve never tested any Costume National perfums. USA

  • deepsmells504 says:
