Coco Chanel: Drawing by Cecil Beaton

Fashion Designers have been influencing fragrance since Coco Chanel created  the first Designer perfume in 1921. Over the past six months I have noticed  that  there is a trend  emerging; Fashion Designers are creating purses inspired by perfume flacons.

First I spotted Charlottte Olympia, the British brand known for Old Hollywood Style and famous clients such as Beyonce and Alexa Chung,  Spring 2013 collection that included  three vintage inspired handbags that are references to Parisian Perfumes of the past. $1250.00 at Neiman Marcus

Promise her anything but give her a Lavin Arpege Minaudière. To celebrate the 85th year of Andree Fraysee's iconic fragrance, a purse to match. Black enamel and serpentine gold handle and gilt clasp, a clutch to covet. $3,610, Available at Lanvin boutiques worldwide.

Which brings us back to Coco Chanel. For Cruise 2014,  Karl Lagerfeld  and his creative team  introduced the ultimate fashion assessory.  Chanel  is the  only brand in the world that can turn the most iconic fragrance ever created into the most coveted handbag.

So now wearing perfume takes on a whole new meaning. My vote for the next  "it" bag?  Yves St Laurent 1977 Opium Parfum designed by Pierre Dinard (who recently designed Neela Vermeire's bottles).

What iconic fragrance flacon would you like to slip your lipstick and mini perfume into?

  • I’ve seen pictures of the Arpege bag before and I may have stopped breathing momentarily at the first glimpse. Shalimar is an obvious choice but maybe not the most practical (as if these beauties have anything to do with practicality)-a classic Guerlain bee bottle would look gorgeous and flashy. Thanks for the eye candy 🙂

  • Oh, fun! I am a long time fangirl of tacky bottles and I’d love to see the Peace Love and Juicy Couture bottle as a bag, provided they included all the danglies and charms. Most of their bottles would be a hoot as bags, and I’m surprised they haven’t done it yet.

I’m in CA for a month, away from my bottles, so I can’t think of any others, but I”m sure there are many that would be fun, if not in the best of taste! 😛

If they could get the color right, the original Poison would be gorgeous, as would the Illmasqua Freak, with the wee snail! And of course the Bond bottles are very unique and would lend themselves to a darling little crossbody…

  • Oooh Pretty!

I like the Caron bottles–Nuit de Noel (black bottle and green case), Bellodgia, Poivre….
Also, Lutens bell jars and L’Artisan’s bottles are lovely and also good candidates.
Second the Illamasqua Freak bottle too–the snail!

  • No very practical but, I love the concept. I would take one based on the old Amouage “mosque” bottles!

  • Chapeau Clack says:

Ohhhh I would kill for the Opium inro clutch!
L and Fleur de Corail by Lolita Lempicka could make pretty bags too.

  • I usually like bags with clean lines-nothing too ornate. So, I nominate the Jar Bolt of Lightening bottle. It’s simple, but perfectly balanced.
