Holy Flowers: DEBUSSCHERE + SPENCER for Dazed and Confused Magazine

Is it Spring yet?  It has been a very long winter (we shivered through much of October – March).  We were thinking "what the heck, lets just skip posting a Best of Spring Fragrances list and wait until summer, but that would be less than a week ago (on the East Coast, where it was 80 degrees).  That is what Spring is… a tempermental season. Mark Twain said it best,"In the Spring I have counted one hundred and thirty-six different kinds of weather in four and twenty hours."  Our favorite fragrances Spring 2013:

I have never longed for spring and warmer weather as I have this year. It seems winter has been dragging on for way too long. Fragrances that make me feel fresh and feminine are on my go-to list these days and one of my favorite spring fragrances  does just that for me, Parfumerie Generale Jardins de Kerylos. It reminds me of warm weather, sun and of the fact that a fragrance does not have to be complicated (just fig, sycamore and musk) to satisfy my craving for a minimalistic feeling and elegance all in one. It’s a free spirited fragrance that makes you want to go on a vacation to the inspiration for this fragrance, the gardens of Villa Grecque Kerylos on the Cote d’Azur. A spritz of Jardins de Kerylos is less expensive and available anytime I want.

Mefisto, from Xerjoff's Casamorati 1888 line, is a tribute to the classic Italian perfumery of the 18th and 19th century, yet shines as glorious today as it did in that classic era, the way the same sun warms the lemon and orange trees that bloom during Sorrento's springtime . The opening of Mefisto is a surround-sound orchestral strike where the top, heart and basenotes all hit in unison: that Xerjoff signature blend of tart, sweet citrus notes arrives along with rose, lavender and Florentine Iris, over a semi-oriental base of sandalwood, musk and amber. Mefisto is celebration of spring in Italy, no matter where you are.

The landscape is quiet, still, and the skies are grey. These are the weeks’ before spring’s full bloom, and nature lays dormant to my eye and nose. This is a special in between time when the plant, tree, and flower are just waking up. There are a few small signs, but beneath it all the earth is stirring, and working hard. This seemingly still time allows us to take pause to notice the bud before the blossom, the sprout pushing through the soil, and the miraculous resuscitation of the moss for another round, another season.  Tommi Sooni Tarantella meets this special time head on. It is not sweet thing; it is a strong-minded classic chypre that’s green and mossy, earthy and aldehydic, and has a muted floral center. I love how the powdery orris, muget, and jasmine heart are reigned in. Its mossy patchouli and amber base keeps the fragrance rich and round. Spring is the time to breakthrough, and transform, but before we do that we first need to gently wake-up. Tarantella EDP was named for the traditional Italian dance the tarantella. The dance is best described as a trance dance, where one is taken over by the dance, a stirring before an awakening.

This year, I look forward to, more than anything, the return of bright green buds and leaves on the trees. Skeletal trees begin to bear foliage and it is apparent life does and can continue, even after the hardest of winters.

Etat Libre d’Orange Fils de Dieu du Riz et des Argumes captures what I look forward to most each year as winter winds to a close. Its spicy yet coolly green opening of lime, shiso leaves and ginger, framed with coriander, captures the initial “greening” of spring. A smooth drily sweet, but warm, floral heart made creamy with coconut hints at sunnier days to come and budding summer flowers like rose and jasmine. The drydown is amazing in its blend of (both fresh and animalic) musks with sweet amber and tonka balanced and kept from tipping into cloying by woody vetiver made smokier with leather. A perfect scent for going out on those nights when “Spring Fever” hits!

Penhaligon’s English Fern is one of my very favorite aromatic fougeres ever. Created originally in 1911, this is the quintessential gentleman’s fragrance. Spicy geraniums and powdery lavender combine to smell clean and crisp like washing with flower petals in an outdoor shower stall. The simple heart of English clover keeps this bright and verdant, as cool moss and warm wood blend with a hint of earthy to result in something classic AND classy. With a palette that contained no “fern”, Penhaligon’s paints a perfect perfumed portrait of an English countryside littered with them.

As you can see by the photo above, which I took while on the beach today, spring in my neck of the woods isn’t exactly bursting with sunshine and blossoms.  A perfect scent for this in-between weather is Olivier Durbano Turquoise. The first time I smelled Turquoise, I didn’t like it, because it is an aquatic scent and I keep telling myself I don’t like those. I passed my sample along and then became haunted by it. I had to smell it again, and this time it was love. It has an unusual combination of incense and ocean, both warming and cooling. It’s light enough that it won’t overwhelm if the sun does happen to make an appearance, but is still full-bodied enough that it doesn’t get lost in the cooler air. I also love the turquoise color of the perfume, which perks me up in the gloom.

Recently, I tried a Serge Lutens perfume I had passed over for some reason, and fell madly in love. Clair de Musc is perfect for spring. It’s powdery and feminine, but not flowery. Fellow devotees of Clair de Musc tell me it is the best scent for layering, and I believe it. You can bet I’ll be topping generous applications of it with orange blossom and dewy rose scents on days when I really need some springtime, and wearing it by itself when I just want to feel surrounded by a pretty cloud of scent.

It’s the purple flowers that bring spring alive for me lilacs, iris, and violets. Ever since I tried Atelier Cologne Sous le toit de Paris back in November I’ve been patiently waiting for the spring to spray this Ralf Schwieger creation with abandon. From the neroli and bigarade to the violet surrounded by geranium and vetiver the feel is of a sunny day in the park. The base notes of musk and leather are a reminder that you still need a little warmth after sunset.

The Story of O: Orange Blossom and Osmanthus

I had a totally different fragrance ready for this post, but as I typed, there was a chill in the air, the streets  were wet and my mood was as changeable as the weather; only one perfume bewitched me on that dreary Spring Day. I have been wearing Rubj Parfum Extrait (pronounced Ruby) by Vero Kern of vero.profumo since 2009. Recently, when Yosh Han did  my annual aura tune-up she had a vision of the small flacon of Rubj on my bureau. Perhaps it is the one fragrance I own that is a reflective mirror of my private self. It is shy and wild at the same time, outspoken but retiring. Ask ten different people what they think of it, and you will get ten different answers. Rubj Extrait wears a Mona Lisa smile. Sweet orange blossom is wrapped in a scarf of changeant mousseline; a kaleidoscope of color, an optical illusion.  The yang of musk and the yin of  jasmine perform an exotic dance as they worship the Morrocan orange blossom.  I smell plums, a hint of tuberose and  honeyed liquor. Rubj Extrait is an enigma understood by few.  Quite simply, Rubj extrait is the nectar of the gods.

Today the sun shines; I spray Osmanthus by Ormonde Jayne with abandon. It is not a complicated fragrance, but I am growing weary of complex; I long for simple pleasures and blue skies. Osmanthus is fruity, in a good way, with a bright citrus top of pomello that brings to mind a glass of iced tea sipped on a porch when the sun is shining. The heart of osmanthus absolue and jasmine sambac absolue is redolent of citrus fruits and apricots. The woody drydown is light and airy. After 6 months of wearing black tights and boots, Osmanthus is the perfume equivalent of wearing a flirty short skirt that bares your legs for the first time in ages.

  • I must commend you on the lead graphic. What an amazing photo shoot that must have been, even if heavily photoshopped. Oh I can’t decide although Tama tempts me with Serge Lutens Claire Du Musc. Would give Tommi Sooni Tarantella EDP a try too, love to see the Downunder creation and yes, heading into Autumn in the Southern Hemisphere which means talking of Spring gives us great hope and inspiration. We know it will happen in a few months and our longing gives us sustenance for what winter will bring us. Spring for me is new lambs and mountains of freesias and daffodils, its unpredicable weather and its baby birds being born right under my nose.

  • I’m just glad spring is here because winter has been too long! I’d love to win any of these fragrances, they sound amazing.

  • Spring has definitely sprung and it’s about time! This is my favorite time of the year as everything is so fresh ans so alive. I think that Tommi Sooni’s Tarantella would be perfect to bring in the new season. Thanks so much for the wonderful draw!

  • Spring hasn’t sprung here yet, in Ireland! It’s my favourite time of year, and I’m patiently waiting for it.Even the appearance of the leaves on the trees around the old C18th graveyard beside my apartment have decided to hang back a bit this year. Climate change is happening folks! The weather appears to be a month behind. I would love to win Fils de Dieu, Clair de Musc, Osmanthus, Atelier Cologne, Tarantella and English Fern! Any one would do!

  • Spring??? What is spring…these days it has been cold and dreary around my neck of the woods for way too long. We are in the middle of April and I am looking around and can still only see snow around here these days. I am hoping it will get warmer soon, can hardly wait for the buds on the bushes and trees to emerge and for things to turn green. With that said I would love if Tarantella decided to come home to live in my perfume cabinet 😉 thank you so much for the wonderful draw.

  • It’s very cold six months out of the year here, sometimes it snows in June. Not likely but sometimes. I love spring because it’s not as cold and have a very sunny porch that I like to plant flowers on. I already am getting sprouts on my wildflowers, lavender and blossoms on my strawberry plants. So, to me, spring is about gardening with my husband, watching things grow, blossoms and colors arriving. Hope, new life and lovely aromas of the spring air! Love it!

I’d like to win Tarantella or English Fern thank you!

  • Carlos J Powell says:

That opening graphic is awesome! I love spring. Weather change, flowers blooming. What I don’t like about spring is allergy season, and this year they were BAD for me.

Would love a chance to win SL Clair du Musc. Must mention that I ADORE Sous le toit de Paris!

  • Where I live, spring has emerged. Magnolias have bloomed, the redbuds are opening. Today, when I was walking my dog, I saw a lawn that was half covered with pristine, solid purple violets. There was a brief rain shower this evening and I’m glad because we’re about 16 in. behind since the drought last year. I am keenly interested in the Atelier Sous Le Toit de Paris and the Ormonde Jayne Osmanthus. Both sound refreshing and either will be satisfying to my nose. Thanks for the draw!

  • Charlestongirl says:

Spring awakens my senses! The colors and scents of nature are rekindled. I’m hopeful. I’m also hopeful I could win Toomi Sooni’s fragrance. A new favorite line!

  • Here in the high mountain desert, Spring is a fickle beast indeed! Hopefully, our weather will become routinely springlike in the next few weeks, but summer blizzards aren’t unheard of. Still, these fragrances would be wonderful to help bolster my spirits. Tarantella, Clair du Musc, Sous le Toit de Paris, Osmanthus, or English Fern would be lovely!

  • Spring? Oh, that means here in “Sunny Florida” you can fry an egg on the sidewalk by 9am. Blistering Burning Humidity that saps your enegry in two seconds flat. Today it was around 86 and my A/C is Kaput! **sigh**

Can you tell I am an autumn and winter kind of girl? However, I think a sprotz or two of Tommi Sooni might perk me up!

Thanks for the lovely draw and to all the folks who are still waiting for spring, I will do my best to speed some Florida heat along to you!
    Ramona

  • In the spring a young mans fancy turns to love
And this young man would love to win fils de dieu, sous le toit de paris or tarantella by tommi sooni
Nice to see olivier durbano turquoise and vero kern rubj on your list
Along with tommi sooni these are three beautifully created and under the radar brands
    Great post and reviews
Another fan of the opening photo

  • Today was the first real Spring day and it was glorious! Unfortunately, the past few years have seen a quick transition into the blast of summer. I want my spring to last!

Tarantella is on the topy of my list; very intrigued by the Sous le Toit de Paris (have not been able to find it?). The remaining scents are beauties too.
Thank you for the spring draw!

  • Spring is finally here! We’re been fooled so many times here on the plains of KS!! I love to watch birds hunt for housing material, ( please no nest on my front door wreath again!!) peonies trying to push through the sometimes frozen ground, and the grass turning to a dark green. No scents yet,,but I’ll have to recreate those scents with some of the suggestions mentioned here!!
I would love to win English Fern–it sounds so interesting!

  • LumpkinLuv says:

I have always thought of spring as our yearly renaissance everything comes back to life. It starts with a gentle peek of color and enhances our existence with warmth new smells and new life. I really am intrigued by Tommi Sooni’s Tarantella and Ormonde Jayne’s Osmanthus.

  • Spring is one of my favourite seasons, if only for the fact that my nose feels alive again. Flowers everywhere, scented treats galore!

I would LOVE Serge Lutens’ Clair du Musc..one of my favourite fragrances of all time. So beautiful.

  • d3m0lici0n says:

Spring is lovely this year, every day I can smell all the flowers when I go do my daily run. It is really cool to be able to do that. Really cool picks from all the Cafleurebon guys too. I’d love to win any of the spring prizes.

  • Living in the great white north – Maine – spring means new life. Love the transition between the dead of winter and the bright colors of spring. I also tend to hibernate in winter, and spring to me means getting outside, enjoying the fresh air, and getting back in shape (!).

Would love to win Tarantella, Clair du Musc, or Sous le Toit. Thanks for the draw!

  • This is the time of year my meager gardening is rewarded beyond all measure, as everything is in bloom and it spurs me to do more. It’s a time of such promise and hope, even for a borderline curmudgeon like me.

I would love to win any of the following, thanks!
    Fils de Dieu
    Clair de Musc
    Tarantella
    Osmanthus

  • Janet in California says:

It has been a cold and dry winter here. We are looking at water rationing this summer. But right now the hills are green, the wild flowers are blooming and my dahlias are coming up!

I would love the Ormande Jayne Osmanthus.

  • Here in the Midwest, spring is it’s typical changeable self: snow, thundershowers, sunshine, all in an hour’s time. It’s slow this year. As always, love the art that illustrates this piece as much as reading everyone’s thoughts. Clair de Musc is my choice, it’s so lovely.

  • Eagerly awaiting spring here, but finally starting to see signs here in northeastern Ohio. Saw some daffodils today. I would be thrilled to win Tarantella, Clair du Musc, and Sous le Toit de Paris.

  • It has been a long winter…I am so looking forward to spring and birds chirping. 🙂
I would love to win either Fils de Dieu,Clair de Musc or Tarantella.
    Thank you!!

  • Fazal Cheema says:

When I think of Spring, i always think of water dew on green leafs. i dont remember where i first saw this picture but it always comes to my mind upon thinking about spring. my choice in the respective order will be

    1. Claire de Musc
    2. English Fern
    3. Tarantella
    4. Fils de Dieu

  • From my bedroom, at night,, I welcome the sounds of first spring with the trilling of peep toads. From that same old room, in the morning. I awaken with the sweet song of birds, mating and nest building. Gazing outside the kitchen window as I sip my coffee, the “family hedgehog” emerges from under the front porch and swaddles in the sun, stoned with warmth and relief. In the yard, I carefully rake old brown leaves off of the borders of daffodils, exposing their yellow crowns.

What a welcome time, breathing freely the sparkle in the air.

I would love to try Ralf Schwieger scents. Can’t get enough.

  • My favourite season has finally arrived! my neighborhood is bursting with puffy flora: Chinese cherry trees, mock oranges, forsythia, hyacinths… and the promise of my beloved bearded irises soon.

I was actually wearing Tarentella today — love it! Otheriwse, my spring picks — at least this week, have been Fleurs de Bois by Miller Harris and A Scent by Issey Miyake — they are actually quite simliar, with a strong top note of hyacinth and a fairly linear construction.

I would adore to win a bottle of it (been craving one for ages), so my choices in order, should I be so lucky:

    1. Tarentella
    2. Fils de Dieu
    3. Sous le Toit de Paris
    4. OJ Osmanthus

  • Spring doesn’t end until early July here in Seattle, but I’ve been pulling out some of my springtime favorites early this year, especially Sweet Redemption and Eau de Charlotte. I would choose Fils de Dieu, English Fern, or Claire de Musc. Thanks and happy spring!

  • As I approach middle age, I anticipate Spring more and more each year. It’s as if the earth breathes this great sigh of relief of rebirth. Persephone has returned!
Thank you for such a generous draw. I would love to win
    1. Fils de Dieu
    2. Tarentella
    3. Claire de Musc

    Thanks!

  • Just like Steve, I too am an Aussie going into cold Autumn weather. I’m not complaining, but I do love Spring.

The only thing about Spring that I dislike is my hayfever allergy, it puts a dampner on all things sunny and bright. Rotating my perfume wardrobe can be fun at the start of Spring, as I usually reach for white florals or fresh, dewy rose scents at such a time.

I would love to win either Tarantella, (which I’ve already had the fortune of smelling – a beautiful, mossy green chypre), or Etat Libre d’Orange Fils de Dieu, which I’ve also smelt and love, love, love!

    Thanks for the draw!

  • Yesterday was the first real day of spring here in Germany and it was so nice to sit outside in the sun! We had a great barbeque. Finally!
I’m so glad we made it through the long winter 🙂
I am interested in Fils de Dieu and English Fern.
    Thanks!

  • Since yesterday spring is emerging. I hear birds singing while I’m sitting here. Now it’s warming up the trees are getting buds immediately. I need a little warmth and energie after the long and cold winter.

I would love to try Tommi Sooni’s Tarantella.

  • Spring is my favourite season! But where I live it last just few weeks, the hot weather coming soon. Then, I like living the present these days as I know they fly fast: fresh mornings, blooming trees, warm and sunny afternoons….
    I would like to try:

    -Clair de musc
    -Tarantella

  • I LOVE spring. Finally I am able to wear less clothes and enjoy sunshine while walking with my dog. I would choose English Fern, thank you!

  • What a great lineup of Spring fragrances you all chose! It’s always so interesting to see what captivates people at different times.
I wish there had been Spring where I am. It literally went from full blown nasty winter to 85 degrees & moderate humidity in roughly 48 hours. It was a real shock to my system…I like to ease into temp changes. Plus I went from wearing heavy hitters like Amouage Epic Woman to ice-cold from the fridge 4711 in a matter of days. Hardly had a Spring perfume day (like one fit for Le Temps d’Une Fete, Chanel No. 19, or Diorissimo.) Still, I’m quite happy to have more daylight and happier moods around me!
Wow!! What a tremendously generous drawing. I would be delighted to win any one of the perfumes offered but here are my top choices:
    1. Tarantella
    2. OJ Osmanthus
    3. English Fern
    4. Sous le Toi de Paris

    Thanks for the drawing!

  • spring has been late this year, and I expect the heat will explode us straight into summer soon. So I’m looking forward to going to the beach at the next opportunity.
Maybe a nice outdoor garden restaurant some evening as soon as my partner returns.

I’m interested in winning all or any of Tarentella, Fils de Dieu, Sous le Toit de Paris, OJ Osmanthus, Clair de Musc and English Fern.

    cheers

  • I love spring and at this moment it has sprung in all its glory where I live – which is good since we have had a tough winter. Poppies and yellow and purple wildflowers are everywhere It won’t last long though, by mid-May summer will be here.
I’d love to win Ormonde Jayne Osmanthus. Thanks for the draw!

  • Low grey skies, and just the other day everything was covered in heavy wet snow again. But I hear rumours of snowdrops in the gardens, the river is eating away at the ice, and that scent on the air… There is still hope!

I would love to win Claire du Musc or Fils de Dieu. Thank you for the draw!

  • Thanks for the draw!
I love spring because it is full of beautiful flowers, fruits, cuckoo singing, birds twittering. It’s not so cold as winter and not so hot as summer. And best of all I love the smells of freshly growing flowers.

    1,Sous le Toit de Paris
    2.Tarantella
    3.Ormonde Jayne Osmanthus

  • I love the in-between weather of spring! I’m in no rush for it to quickly get hot. I’d rather have the high sun mid-day sandwiched between cool mornings and evenings. Even the moody, grey, misty days when the sun is just barely peeking through can be a balm to my soul. In fact, Tama, the photo you took on the beach calls to me! I would love to win any of the above, but especially Tarentella, Fils de Dieu, Sous le Toit de Paris, or OJ Osmanthus. Thanks for the draw.

  • The best about spring is that I change my parfums! I have been wearing dark orientals during the long winter and now it’s time to change! I go for light sandal or fresh scents ! 😀
I would choose CLAIR THE MUSK , TARANTELLA or ENGLISH FERN.

  • Spring here means daffodils, hyacinths and cherry blossoms! So pretty… and such a relief after months of grey skies and cold temps. I love working in my garden, watching the slumbering plants emerge into the sun and renewed life…
I’d love to win Tarantella, Fils de Dieu, OJ Osmanthus, English Fern, or Clair du Musc.

  • Spring is very short lived in my land and it’s only my anticipation of summer
I would be happy to win any of Tarentella, Fils de Dieu, Sous le Toit de Paris, OJ Osmanthus
thanks for the draw and happy spring to all

  • Spring has been and still to shy to come out in Paris.Nevertheless flower shops and farmers markets are still here with seasonal flowers and fruits reminding us to smile and thus telling us that nature has not forgotten our poor drenched souls. Thankfully, we have perfumes to create the perfect spring illusion..
I would love to win Ormonde Jayne’s gorgeous Osmanthus, ELO’s zingy Fils de Dieu or Tommi Sooni’s Tarantella.
    Thank you for the draw..

  • GregorySop says:

Being from Northeastern Ohio, spring still has not sprung as of yet being 39 degrees today. It can’t last forever so hopefully soon we can see some springtime.
The ones that interest me most for this spring are:
    1. Tarantella EDP
    2. Claire de Musc
    3. Fils de Dieu
    4. Sous le Toit Paris
    All sound excellent.

  • What a great list of spring fragrances and I don’t own one
Spring is very late this year and I am just beginning to see crocuses and green leaves
I would love any of the beautiful fragrances you selected

  • Spring is the season of hope and possibility – the embodiment of optimism. I would most like to try Tarantella, followed by Sous Le Toite de Paris. I am wearing Rubj today, spurred on by Michelyn’s spring suggestions :). Yum. Thanks for the draw!

  • Spring is my fav time of the year. The flowers, the colors, the bright greens, the smell of rain, the birds that start singing at 4.30 am.
Unfortunately this year the spring came late with high temps why too yearly that melted the delicate spring flowers and ruined the cherry blossoms. I have a sad feeling about this year’s spring and I am afraid the global warming will ruin many other springs that will come.
I would love to win any of the following:
    Fils de Dieu
    Clair de Musc
    Tarantella
    Osmanthus

  • Spring is the time of budding trees, dewy fields and nature turning. Probably the happiest time of the year for me..
I would love to win Ormonde Jayne’s Osmanthus, Atelier Cologne’s Sous le toit de Paris or Serge Luten’s Claire de Musc..
    Thank you for the draw!

  • Spring is my ABSOLUTE favorite season of the year…but this year it has been extremely long in coming! (still not here yet as far as I am concerned :(!!).

I would love to win the Fils de Dieu or Ormande Jayne’s Osmanthus.
    thank you for this draw!

  • just breathe says:

The lack of springlike weather is really depressing me…I could use some spring inspiring fragrances to put a smile on my face!
I would love to win the Claire de Musc or Fils de Dieu (that one is so yummy 🙂 !!)
    thanks for the draw!!!!

  • Spring in Connecticut is often the shortest season of the year. One week between the cold of winter and the start of steamy Summer. So this year I headed to the Carolina’s for a few weeks of real spring time with azaleas blooming and the lacy dogwood trees covered with flowers. I would enjoy any and all of the featured scents, several of which I have not smelled.

  • Spring is my favorite time of year because I can work on my flower garden and ease into la-la land. Just the smell of Spring flowers make me want to have a great day and put me in a great mood all day. I would enjoy the following:

    1. Claire de Musc
    2. Tarantella
    3. Sous le Toit
    4. Ormonde Jayne

    Thanks for the draw! 🙂

  • Springtime is extra special living in a four season location.

    I would wish for:

    1. English Fern
    2. Clair de Musc

    Thanks guys

  • Winter has been such moody in Poland this year. We got snow in early December, then it all disappeared right before Christmas and then it returned in middle January and lasted until Easter. In fact the last bits of snow melted not more than a week ago.
Today It’s pretty sunny and warm, time to change clothes for more intensive colors and exchange shoes and jackets for something lighter. Time to breathe spring.

    If I win I’d like:
Atelier Cologne Sous le Toit de Paris
    ELd’O Fils de Dieu
    Penhaligon’s English Fern
    OJ Osmanthus travel set
    SL Clair de Musc
    Toomi Sooni Tarantella

  • I love spring. Growing up, I looked forward to the blooming of the lilac bushes in our backyard. They smelled so fresh and scented the area. I also like the rainy and cloudy days; it’s the best time of year for me to sleep.

  • Tama’s photo is so lovely, she has great talent! Made my day with her beach photo. I’d be happy to wear any of the perfumes, they’re all unique and beautiful.

  • I love spring fragrances! You can still wear things that are a bit sweet without them amping way up, and get to dabble in all sorts of fun flowers! Last year I was into Peony, the year before roses and osmanthus… This year seems to be leaning into lightly ambered or chocolated flowers.

I would love to win: Ormonde’s Osmanthus, Atelier’s Paris, Fils de Dieu, Fern (a clover note… sounds like a good hiking perfume)… actually I’d like to try any/ all of the fragrances.

Tarantella or Osmanthus are likely to get the most wear from me in the spring, but all of them sound lovely. Also I am international, if that affects my choices at all.

Thank you so much for the draw!!!

  • Fall is my favorite season, but Spring is a very close second. Here in the Ozarks, the redbuds and fruit trees are still blooming, the dogwoods are in flower, as are the lilacs. The late jonquils and tulips are out, and we have some early iris and wisteria blooming already! The fields are Irish-level green and teeming with new life. Within 300 yards in every direction of our place we have brand new calves, colts, lambs, kids, a tiny baby alpaca, and 5 wee kittens in the barn. It is all so perfect it makes me wonder what’s left over for Heaven!

All these fragrances sound lovely, but I am especially curious about Tarantella, Ormond Jayne’s Osmanthus and Atelier Cologne Sous le Toit de Paris.

Thanks so much for this generous draw, and I hope all y’all have a joyful Spring!

  • I will miss spring when I leave the part of the world I am in now where spring is indeed renewal and move to another part where there is no spring, instead it is the rainy season that brings renewal. So I have this love of the very particular way in which Spring renews as opposed to the perhaps many other ways in which nature must renew itself. Yes spring is indeed about the buds – seemingly delicate but clearly tenacious, acid in its green but translucent enough so that each bud, petal and leaf lets light through, later when they are fleshier, riper they will not.

I would love to win just about anything on this list but my favourites are Etat Libre d’Orange’s Fils de Dieu, Serge Luten’s Clair Musc, Ormonde Jayn’s Osmanthus and Atelier Cologne’s Sous le Toit de paris.

  • Tomate Farcie says:

In Southern California the jacarandas are in bloom and of course there is even more light. When I lived in Paris I understood what was meant by spring fever. Great selection–my preference is Fils de Dieu, Osmanthus, Tarantella

  • wefadetogray says:

I live in NYC and here the spring is still descending. I need some dry sunny days before the May rains arrive followed by muggy, unbeareable days. There are a couple of trees in bloom and some flowers here and there. Yesterday I was walking to the library and was sad to see the absence of spring. I fear now a summer as long as this past winter. I need flowers: to smell them, to see them, to think about them, and to take perhaps some corny pictures with them.
I’d love to try Fils de Dieu and Osmanthus.
    Thanks for the draw 🙂

  • Spring has always been my favorite season. Warm (not stifling hot) days, cooler nights and the bevy of beauteous flowers that burst forth from the earth…and my beloved LILACS will be peeking out soon filling the air with heavenly aromas! *sighs*

    Interested in:

    TS Tarantella
    SL Clair de Musc
Penhaligon’s English Fern (one can never have enough!)
    ELdO Fils de Dieu etc…
ATELIER Sous le Toit de Paris
    OJ Osmanthus

Thanks to all those who offered these wonderful prizes!

  • Seriously, I have ben asking is it spring yet for toooo long this year. The fact that I moved from Athens to supercold London didn’t help either! I love spring, flowers blooming, birds singing, ah I just love this season!
    If I won I’d like
    ELd’O Fils de Dieu
    Toomi Sooni Tarantella
    OJ Osmanthus travel set
    SL Clair de Musc
Atelier Cologne Sous le Toit de Paris
    Penhaligon’s English Fern

  • I love it when spring lasts more than a week in my neck of the woods.. The desert usually doesn’t celebrate spring for much longer than that.. We have been indeed blessed the past two years for an extended spring.
Would love OJ Osmanthus Travel Set
    or Eld’O Fils de Dieu.

  • I love spring because it’s a prelude to my favorite time of year…summer! My birthday is in April and the cherry blossoms in my hometown are (allegedly–not so much this year) in bloom. I would like to win ANY of the fragrances mentioned. Thank you!

Atelier Cologne Sous le Toit de Paris
    ELd’O Fils de Dieu
    Penhaligon’s English Fern
    OJ Osmanthus travel set
    SL Clair de Musc
    Toomi Sooni Tarantella

  • Spring is my favorite season. Pity that it seems to be the shortest season: sometimes it feels like we skip straight from winter to summer. I’d love to win any of the fragrances mentioned – thanks for the draw! 🙂

    Toomi Sooni Tarantella
    Penhaligon English Fern
    ELd’O Fils de Dieu
    SL Clair de Musc
Atelier Cologne Sous le Toit de Paris
    OJ Osmanthus

  • Oh gosh, I’d like any of these, but especially the Clair de Musc or Fils de Dieu! I usually crave violet notes in the spring, and powdery notes, as in Flower by Kenzo. But this spring keeps reverting to winter, giving me a chance to wear the orientals and gourmands that didn’t get enough wear in winter proper.

  • The wisteria that frames the front of my house burst into bloom on Friday. It may be cool and rainy here, but that is a sure sign of spring! I’d love to try anything here, but Serge Luten’s Clair Musc would be a fave.

  • It went from 40*F-80*F in one week here in the burbs of Philly. It was like we were in winter, and then skipped spring and went right into summer. I brought my citrus and light fragrances out last week, but this week is more seasonally cool, so I’m experimenting with samples. I would love to win any of these, they all sound so lovely. I think I’d like the OJ Osmanthus and Fils de Dieu. thanks for the draw.

  • Among many spring favorites, the one that stands above the others is the Wisteria Pergola in Central Park here in NYC. To stand beneath those large, gnarled vines in early May is an intoxicating olfactory experience – so heady, in fact, that I have often left there dizzy.

I would love to win any of the following –
Atelier Sous le Toit de Paris
    Etat Libre Fils de Dieu
    SL Clair de Musc
    Tommi Sooni Tarantella

    Thanks!

  • Ah! Spring has not come yet to us in Canada! It seems like an endurance test, one storm after another! Still I wear springime perfumes to entice the weather to warm up a bit: L’artisan Verte Violette, Chanel’s Christalle, and Monegal’s Impossible iris.
I would love to win the Ormonde Jayne set!

  • Spring has taken a LONG time to arrive here in Brussels. I love the first days of spring, so clearly different from winter days… what I don’t like so much is my yearly month of hayfever, which is May. Nevertheless, I love hot weather, long days and warm nights, so from now until October, this is my dearest part of the year.
I’d love to win especially Fils de Dieu or also English Fern, Sous le Toit de Paris, Clair de Musc and Osmanthus…

  • Spring is normally one of my favorite seasons, but this year has been so cold and I’m going through such hardship trying to find a new flat to rent that is going to stay imprinted in my mind like one of the worst times ever.I had to rely heavily on my perfumes to help me keep my wits together. thank you, as usual, for your amazing draws, I have yet to win one, but should the odds be in my favor now I’d love to get Tarrantella, Clair de Musc or Ormonde Jayne Osmanthus.

  • I am happy that spring is finally here and I can go in the park, sit on a bench and read some of my favourites authors while I get whiffs of fresh air and grass.

I would like to win Osmanthus by Ormonde Jayne and Sous le Toit de Paris.

    Many thanks!

  • I have quite a neurotic temperament and so spring’s stirring of life, like the burgeoning dawn, can make me nervous! My response may be atypical:)

I would love to win Clair De Musc; Fils de Dieu or Sous Le Toit.

    Thanks for the wonderful draw!

  • I love NYC in springtime! People fill their window boxes with colorful blooms and the cafés spill out onto the sidewalks, and everyone immediately pops on color and sun dresses and the city seems to come out of its hibernation into full swing.
We took our dog for a walk along the Hudson River yesterday and the spread of daffodils were magical! People we’re smiling and picnicking, doing acrobatics on the lawn, and even though there was still a slight chill in the air we all jumped on the spring bandwagon.
I would love to win ELDO Fils de Dieu or OJ Osmanthus. Happy spring!

  • Growing up in Southern California, I never learned to appreciate spring. It was only when I moved to the East Coast that I felt a longing for sunshine, tulips, cherry blossoms and daffodils. It was a time when wool was put in storage, the Wellies remained, and I started to wear color again. It was a visual feast for the eyes.. For me, spring doesn’t smell like white florals, but rather anything that gives me a veil of light comfort and the promise of warmth to come. I would love to win the Atelier or the ELdO.

  • I love spingtime, it’s my favorite season and I really enjoy it! It’s amazing to see how the nature wakes up
I would like to win Sous le Toit de Paris, it should be great as all fragrances of this house.

  • I am looking forward to flying back to the USnext week and into spring. It’s hot where I am.
    I would love to try
    Tarantulla
    Osmanthus
    Fils de Deau
    Clair de Musc

    Thanks for the draw!

  • Paul Bunch says:

I like Spring because it gets warm enough here to go to the beach comfortably and there are all the Spring flowers!

I’d like to win anything! I especially like floral scents. I don’t have any of these, but I have tried Osmanthus and liked it.
    Tarantella
    SL Clair de Musc
    English Fern
    Sous le Toit de Paris
    Fils de Dieu
    Osmanthus

  • Spring can be overwhelming for me – it’s so lush and disordered! i love it anyway. The birdsong is, perhaps, my favorite thing. I would love to win the Tommi Sooni, the Penhaligons, or the Atelier. Thanks for the draw!

  • Last night I left the office after pulling some serious overtime. The moment I stepped outside weary something took control of me. I stopped, tilted my head up and took a deep breath of the beauty that floated in the air. Green and pollen mixed with fume and wet cement framed the diffusive scent of orange blossom. The beauty was almost heartbreaking. It made me realize that there is a hollow space inside me. It was emptied out during the winter and I have lived with it for so long that it was no longer noticeable. But now it is starting to fill again and like the first drops of water to the dry throat or the first bites to the starved, the experience can be painfull. A melancholy takes over before this vibration of the internal chords becomes recognizable as pleasure. Springtime is just that, when we start to refill our depleted container of beauty. Pefume is a consolation for when we can’t do that…

My consolation of choice from the ones offered is Fils de Dieu

  • Of course I love spring, as most everyone does, but I’ll be damned if I can dress myself. In Canada, it can be balmy in the morning, snowing by lunch time, and back to balmy by dinner. Umbrella? Sandals? Boots? Nobody.
    Knows.

Thanks for the draw! I would love to win:

Atelier Cologne Sous le Toit de Paris
    ElO Fils de Dieu
    SL Claire de Musc

    Thanks 🙂

  • Spring in Central Park is beginning to explode…flowers, buds and color. I love watching spring fashions unfold like the flowers. Great people watching. And fragrance awakens my senses to the luxury of spring.

Any of these beautiful fragrances would be perfect!

  • I love spring… a chance for renewal and rebirth
the aroma of wet grass and earth – the promise that things will begin again
i would love to win clair de musc
    eldo fils de dieu
    osmanthus by ormonde jayne
    penhaligons english fern sounds amazing

  • Igor Kipnis says:

Great article and I too can’t wait for spring to finally arrive. It has way too long with cool weather. With every day passing and warming of temperatures it feels like spring is at our door step and yet we are set back and brought back to much cooler weather. Spring time for me is a time of rebirth and rejuvenation after a long cold winter. I wait a whole year for this time as I love temperatures that are 60-80F and hate everything on both extremes.

For the draw I would be interested in
    Tarantella
    Claire de musc
    English fern
    Fils de dieu
    Sous le toit de Paris
    Ormonde Jayne

  • Spring and summer are my favourite seasons – spring, mainly because it says that summer is coming 🙂 Spring comes early in the PNW and being from the east originally, I appreciate it all the more.

I’d be thrilled to win any of these:

    ELd’O Fils de Dieu
    SL Clair de Musc
    Toomi Sooni Tarantella

  • helical gnome says:

I love spring. I am not fond of extreme weather conditions: too hot or too cold are always bad for my mood. So spring and fall are a delight. It’s 63 degrees outside and I just rejoice. In the spring I like to wear Santal de Massoia that for some reason I couldnt find today.
Id be happy to win: Fils de Dieu, Tarantella, Osmanthus

  • Christine B says:

Spring is narcissi and primroses and later bluebells and lily of the valley. It is being able to hang the washing out on the line in the garden again and it is discovering that my spring/summery clothes seem to have shrunk since I last wore them.
I would love to win Tarantella, Fils de Dieu or Sous le Toit de Paris

  • I love Spring and Autumn because they seem to be all about transition and growth, kind of like sunrise and sunset. Weather here ranges from the thirties to the seventies, and the unpredictability is beautiful, as is the predictable but miraculous new growth everywhere. The promise of a flower is at least as beautiful as the flower! I get so excited to see things I planted coming up. And of course I love the smells: rain, sunny breezes, earth, buds and blossoms, green leaves….

    Impressed with Ralf Shweiger btw…
    I would love to win:
    ELdO Fils de Dieu
    OJ Osmanthus
    Sl Clair de Musc
Atelier Cologne Sous le Toit de Paris

  • To me, spring is the time of excitement. Dank, wet smells, smells of life, and the coming summer.

Autumn has always been a favorite, but spring is constantly surprising me.

    Claire de Musc
    Fils de Dieu
    Sous le Toit de Paris
    Tarantella
    English Fern
    Ormonde Jayne

  • I vacillate between declaring spring and autumn as my favorite season. The weather right now is pretty delightful, so I’ll declare spring, at least for the moment. I love the way the air feels on my skin, especially when the temperature is relatively cool, but the sun is bright. I also enjoy the shift to a different fragrance wardrobe, right at the point at which I start to weary of heavy orientals and gourmands.

As for my scent choices, Tarantella is at the top of my list, with OJ Osmanthus coming in second.

  • We don’t get spring here and the one time I did get to experience it was in Monet’s garden. It was raining. I got really wet, only some of the flowers were in bloom but it felt so peaceful (despite the crowd) to be cocooned by the lush greeneries. To capture the essence of this season, I’d choose Sous le toit de Paris and Fils de Dieu (which for some reason makes me smile).

  • Spring is a time for purple and yellow. Crocuses peek through the snow, and the dwarf narcissus springs up on my mother’s hillside. Even Texas, which seems to have only Winter and Summer, has its bluebonnets in Spring. I dream of seeing the Parma violets blooming in April in Toulouse France, and for now I wear my sample of Sous le Toit de Paris — and pretend.
My first choices would be Sous le Toit de Paris and Ormonde Jayne Osmanthus. Fils de Dieu intrigues as well. ANd I always thought English Fern sounded great. Happy Spring!

  • What to say? I love Springtime and the feeling of the ground thawing, love the grasses and buds growing and crocuses coming up out of the ground. I also love Springtime fragrances and would have no problem wearing one all year round!

I would love to win Fils de Dieu or Osmanthus the most; please enter me for Claire de Musc, English Fern and Sous le Toit de Paris as well! (I live in the US, if this info is helpful).

  • One day about a week and a half ago, sitting in my living room, I heard two lawnmowers–I knew spring had arrived! Sunny days, teasing warmth… It’s arrived! I live in the US and my choices, if I were so lucky, would be (in order):
    Fils de Dieu, by ELdO
    Claire de Musc, by Serge
Sous le Toit de Paris, by Atelier
    Osmanthus, by Ormond Jayne
    Tarantella, by Tommy Sooni
    English Fern, Penhaligon’s

  • After too much time spent at the place where winter stays for 6 months and the spring sometimes only takes as little as a couple of weeks, I just can’t get enough of this freshness and blooming! (and to celebrate it I got a couple of new bottles of perfume right away)
Thanks for this wonderful draw, I’d choose Etat Libre d’Orange Fils de Dieu du Riz et des Argumes or Tommy Sooni Tarantella, would I be lucky!

  • Spring is a terrible wet mess in Ohio. It’s much nicer here in Colorado, although we just got nearly 18 inches of snow in Boulder. Spring weather is hectic here, much more fun than drab cleveland weather.

    If I win,
    Clair de Musc
    Fils de Dieu
    Sous le Toit de Paris
    Tarantella
    English Fern
    Osmanthus

  • Mary Carol says:

Spring is my favorite season, with the weather getting warmer and so much to look forward to as we get closer to summer. It also means garden planting time, and I love thinking about what I want to plant this year. Here are my choices, in the event that I am a winner.

    Osmanthus
    English Fern
    Tarantella

Thank you for the drawing. Love the excellent beach photo!

  • Spring has sprung with colors and aroma that is fresh and dewy around me. That’s what I think of spring.
    I would love to have:

Etat Libre D’Orange Fils de Dieu
    Ormonde Jayne Osmanthus
    Tommi Sooni Tarantella

    Thanks
    USA

  • Mary Ellen says:

Spring is allergy season and a sad time for perfume in my mind… I haven’t figured out how to fight the allergies yet and miss all the small nuances of my collection.

Summer can’t come fast enough. thanks for the draw.

If I win, these are my choices. Clair de Musc, Fils De Dieu, Sous le Toit de Paris, Tarantella, English Fern, Osmanthus

  • Extremely happy that spring is here. How nature just explodes in a few days from shoot to plat to flower. Daffodils, hyacinths, and a wisteria promising to bloom in a few days.
Wonderful giveaway. Would love to try English fern, fils de dieu or osmanthus. Thanks!

  • Spring certainly comes too late and leaves too early in NYC! So, when there we have that perfect spring day (trees are a blooming, sky is blue w/ puffy clouds, with a gentle breeze) one must bottle this memory and keep your love alive!

    Ormonde Jayne – Osmanthus
Etat Libre D’Orange – Fils de Dieu
Atelier Cologne – Sous le Toit de Paris

    Cheers

  • Brenda Patrickson says:

Spring is time for some new clothes and time spent outside. My favorite season. 🙂

Thanks for the article and draw. Fils De Dieu, Claire de Musc, Sous le Toit de Paris, Tarantella, English Fern

  • Spring! Well, spring in Austin means 90 degree weather. LOL. But right now we have glorious blooms of honeysuckle all over the city, scenting the air – it’s divine. So there’s that!

I’d like to win any of the following (in order of preference): Tarantella, Fils de Dieu, Osmanthus, Sous le Toit de Paris. Thank you for the draw!

  • Perfume Don says:

Spring is the season I let the top down on the roadster. 😀

Fils De Dieu, Claire de Musc, Sous le Toit de Paris, Tarantella, English Fern if I win.

  • Spring is endly here in Northern Germany, too. You can’t imagine how I started to bloom myself after only a couple of days of temperatures about 20°C!!! My mood is lifetd, the air is warm and sparkling, I can’t wait for more flowers and trees to show their fragrant beauty… Thx for the great draw, I would like to win either Tommy Sooni Taranella or Atelier Cologne Sous les Toits de Paris. Thx again, enjoy yourself the spring!

  • johnny kat holland says:

It has not been a particularly hard winter here in San Francisco…more like a prolonged spring, and so I am desperate for more cool green fragrances. I think John Reasinger’s picks would be a fabulous addition to my collection.
    Penhaligon’s English Fern
    ELDO Fils de dieu

  • Generous draw again! Thanks!
This spring I am also craving flowers – mostly violet (iris, violet, hyacinth) and white (jasmine, osmanthus, plum blossom). I tried to wear orange blossom and lilac these days but it didn’t work out well – too faint in the cold, too overwhelming in the sun.
I hope I could win some of your offerings:
    1. Atelier Cologne Sous Le Toit de Paris
    2. ELDO – Fils de Dieu
    3. Ormonde Jayne Osmanthus
    4. SL Clair de Musc

  • As spring settles the streets of NYC instantly transform–less clothes more color-no tights. It always brings a smile to my face.
Fils de Dieu, Osmanthus, Sous le Toit de Paris, Clair de Musc–ty for amazing draw

  • Spring in New England can be elusive. Cold days followed by warm, then back to winter again! Then suddenly it’s summer.
I would love to win any of the six fragrances, in the following order of preference: Tarantella, Fils de Dieu, Clair de Musc, Sous Le Toit de Paris, Osmanthus, and English Fern.
Thanks so much for this generous draw.
