CaFleureBon Profiles in American Perfumery: Jeanne Rose + Eighth Decade Book Draw

Profile: I think that the most interesting thing about my life is my French Canadian mother, who met my Puerto Rican father via the love-lorn section of a New York newspaper. He wrote, she wrote and within 6 weeks she was on a cross-country bus, married my father and I was born 8 months later.

1st Decade. I grew up in California on an Apricot ranch where my dad grew whatever we needed. The scents of my childhood are Almond and Apricot blossoms and their fruit odors, also Roses and Wisteria and Oleander. My dad who was born in Puerto Rico said plants had to have purpose; they either fed your sense of taste, your sense of smell or your sense of enjoyment.

2nd decade.I have had several completely different lives. First as a child from a small town, then college as a Zoology major, graduate school in Marine Ecology, hippie chic in Big Sur, couturier during the Rock ‘n Roll years; herbalist and writer and teacher; aromatherapy writer and teacher and for the last 15 years teaching Natural Botanical Perfumery Seminars here in San Francisco. Evening in Paris was the preferred scent of the girls in my high school while I enjoyed and preferred the magical forest of Woodhue by Faberge whose scent is Rosewood/Lavender/Vetivert/Sandalwood.

My elegant mother used MaGriffe by Carven and I loved that with its great green Galbanum odor, florals and Vetivert. I used Peppermint oil for pets.

In my 3rd decade, I used Storax in the lab to ‘fix’ small marine animals and Benzoin for the skin. These scents are particularly evocative to me. Habanita by Molinard was my most desired odor in Big Sur, that is, besides the fabulous scent of seaweed, Redwood trees and fresh creek odor. Flashback to 1967 in the Haight: I had returned to my native Bay Area after the University of Miami's graduate program in marine biology and after working in watermelon and bee research. I began sewing clothing for the rock 'n' roll crowd, outfitting everyone from Jefferson Airplane (Starship) to Donovan. In 1967, the owners of Kiehls (?) gave me a bottle of Jasmine that I promptly smashed on the plane trip home – thereby sealing in my love and fear of Jasmine.

In 1969, the Village Voice published an article about my clothing designs for those rock and roll guys, and a book publisher was intrigued enough by the herbs in the background of a photo to contact me about writing a book. The articles states, “Rose is steeped in the herbal tradition: Both her parents were gardeners and herbalists, and she grew up making homemade herbal cosmetics and medicines. She sits down and slams out her first book in a quick six weeks.” "Herbs & Things, Jeanne Rose's Herbal," subtitled, "A Compendium of Practical and Exotic Herbal Lore," is published in 1972 and goes on to sell over 600,000 copies, establishing itself as one of the classics in the field.”

In my 4th decade I started scenting my gloves and jewelry. I liked anything with Rosemary, herbaceous scents and citrus. I developed the first U.S. natural skin care company, called New Age Creations with the plants, scents and herbs from my garden and was quite successful at that until I gave it (the business) away in 1980. I made skin care and naturally scented massage oils that became quite well known and perfumes that developed a cult following as well as developing personalized perfumes for hotels and people.

In 1980, I just stopped making products for my company, New Age Creations (started in 1967). Many products became available that I felt were truly natural. With the advent of more technology those ‘natural’ ingredients are being divided, separated, isolated, and the components are being used in products. This, as far as I am concerned, is no longer natural. There are tons of petroleum-based products that are touted as ‘natural’. Most of what we use, we don’t need.

My 5th decade is characterized by Chypre- anything chypre. It is a favorite odor because of the Labdanum, Oakmoss, Bergamot and Clary Sage. I make sure my Natural Botanical Perfumery students make a Chypre blend to know what women smelled like 90 years ago. I was and am a consultant and have helped many companies develop skin care and body care products and subtle perfumes. I am a teacher rather than a product maker. I have continued to nourish myself with my garden of sensory delight and include a photo that was published in a lovely book on “Scented Gardens”.

6th decade. My favorite herbs and smells are Rosemary, the sea, Conifers and whatever else happens to occupy my attention on any one day. You can visit my collection of great herbal books (1500) that I donated to the Lloyd Library in Cincinnati, OH and my pop-up book collection (600) is at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Library at San Jose State University in California.

7th decade. I distill plants for odor and have since 1970 or so, and extract all sorts of things for scent. One of the most remarkable odors that I have ever made was the fragrant tincture from my son’s combat glove from his year in Afghanistan. That doesn’t sound so good as the glove itself was quite unpleasant but the remarkable thing is that the tincture I extracted was remarkably evocative and rather sweet and as the diluent in a Chypre base that I made it was deliciously attractive.

I am in my 8th decade. This I find rather unbelievable. Living is good. Vintage champagne is terrific. Walking in the morning in the Botanical Gardens is delicious, smelling fragrant air is lovely and being able to teach people about aroma is really fulfilling. I think that education is the cure for many problems. I wish I had a lifetime grant to teach, so that I could teach and not have to charge for it. My work is not done – there is still so much to do. I think that the more people learn about plants the more they will want to make their own perfume and in the learning they will become more responsible and educated about the environment and realize that ‘nature’ provides. I feel that “the mind and body as one” is the best way to stay healthy. Thus natural odors can help keep you healthy.

When I teach, I have always tried to help women realize their full potential, helping them focus on what they wanted to achieve and to educate them in what they are trying to accomplish. I believe that education in all things is very important and I believe in the power of knowledge through disciplined reading. "The answers are right there if only people would read!" I work all the time to teach others about the power of essential oils, hydrosols and herbs and now Natural Botanical Perfumery. My best Seminars are always held right in my own home, "The Home of 1,000 Aromatic Mysteries” as Bella says. I try to live and breathe in what I believe – it isn’t just something I talk about when teaching a class or writing a book. When you walk into my house it is evident that I use what I write about as the entire house has become saturated with years of scented living and aromatic perfumery.

On American Art I have many interests in art. Several of my husbands were artists and thus there were many artists of various media in my home. Several artists have painted me and I have those paintings. I have collected art as well; usually desert landscape, botanical drawings and alchemy themed art as well as supported our local museums. One of my favorite paintings is by the American artist John Singer Sargent, called Fumée d’Ambre Gris and I was able to obtain permission to use this painting as a cover to one of my books, The World of Aromatherapy.

A Barbier illustration called Egypt has been used as the cover to another book of mine, The Aromatherapy Book: Applications & Inhalations. There are many paintings that I enjoy including murals and illustrations by Maxfield Parrish who was commissioned to paint the 16-foot mural "The Pied Piper of Hamlin" that is over the Pied Piper Bar in the Palace Hotel where as President of the Aromatherapy organization, I had its most successful and spectacular Conference.

On American Natural Perfumery People ask me if natural perfumes are therapeutic and my answer is absolutely. There are many Natural Botanical Perfumes that can be built in such a way that they are indeed therapeutic. You should have a solid foundation in plants to know how to use their odors. The foundation of natural perfumery is plants/herbs; the advanced study is their aromatic scents and graduate study is Natural Botanical Perfumery. One of the reasons that I use ONLY naturals is that I feel that “the mind and body as one” is the best way to stay healthy. Thus natural odors can keep you healthy. Also, there is the point about the synthetics being pollutants in the atmosphere. I do not wear scent on my body every day, they are just part of my body; and I keep various natural essences around me at all times and my home is a compendium of over 40 years of scent.

I was invited to speak to the Fragrance Foundation in 1975 about what I was doing in Natural Perfumery. Now here it is 35 years later and it is really exciting to watch the renewed bubble of interest and the developments that are happening here in natural perfumery; to look at the gorgeous packaging, to inhale the interesting and fabulous odors and see finished products; to hear the excitement that people have in their many blogs and discussions on odor, scent and perfumes. We spoke of this years ago. Stimulating the limbic system with odor is a fantastic rejuvenative tool for health.

This same thing happened in herbs and then aromatherapy as well; reading, interest, lots of talk and using and then classes. It takes years to root – like an Oak tree.I am hoping that people will continue to want to learn about the plants used in natural perfumery through good critical reading of books and studying and learning. I see that they are interested in actually learning about the plants that lend their scent to perfume.  This is a critical part of perfumery – learn the plants and you will also learn their therapy and the best ways to integrate the odors.I think that the more people learn the more they will want to make their own perfume and in the learning they will become more responsible and educated about the environment and realize that ‘nature’ provides.  This is the earth-driven web of life.

I specifically wanted to get her opinion on what changes she has noticed since she started teaching over 37 years ago. Nothing has changed according to Rose, especially in the natural perfumery category. Rather, Rose says, “The interest rises and falls periodically like bubbles in a stream.”

  • I feel privileged to have been in a couple of Jeanne’s classes, owned a few of her books plus a lovely basil hydrosol made in one of her classes. Witnessing her connection to herbs and aromatics and how much they play a role in her everyday has lead me to do the same thus enhancing my quality of life (and my home…my pets…my cooking…). That is what aroma means to me.

  • Jeanne Rose has always been an inspiration to me. Rosemary Gladstar was the first person to introduce me to essential oils, at her shop in Sebastopol, California ~ Rosemary’s Garden. She also recommended that I start with “Jeanne Rose’s Herbal Body Book.” Many moons and many books later it is still an essential part of my collection. For those of us who are from Northern California; Aromatherapy and Jeanne Rose go together like salt and pepper. Thank you, Jeanne, for all your hard work over the years and the valuable contribution you have made to the industry and the lives of us who work in it.

  • What a great article that shares Jeanne Rose’s personal views and interests in perfume over the decades!
I have a well worn copy of Herbs and Things that I love and will never part with. I certainly have considered attending a workshop and the distilling one especially is calling my name!
    What a wonderful lifes work!

  • I’ve seen bits and pieces of Jeanne’s history on other sites, but never have I seen such a creative, informative “flow” through the decades as here. Scented decades – a new way to look at her life, for sure!

I purchased “herbs and Things” in 1974 while working at the Botanical Garden at UC Riverside. It encouraged me on my path with colognes, and I made a memorable neroli flower tincture from the trees at UCR. We also rigged up some crude distillation projects on the stovetop, as I wanted to try to create my own oils. Jeanne also made me all in love with potpourris, and I concocted many recipes for them. I loved her first aromatherapy book when it came out, and still have those two original books in my library.

This year, when the Natural Perfumers Guild created the first Fleur Awards, it was a given that Jeannie would be honored with a Lifetime Achievement recognition for her work with distillation.

Thanks so much, Jeanne, from someone who has been inspired by you for decades.

    xoxo,
    Anya

  • What an interesting life. I find it fascinating that so many perfumers come from a science back ground with a grounding in the arts. It make complete sense. i would love to take a class with this woman, I’m going to do some research after I’m done writing this. If I was to win the draw, I would chose Natural Perfumery
    Advanced Perfumery & Exotics Workbook

  • Such an inspiration to so many Thank You Jeanne Rose. She posted this on FB today “A teacher is one who makes himself progressively unnecessary. ~Thomas Carruthers” I know that this is how she lives her life. Empowering all of those around her to further this passion. I am so grateful for the knowledge she has shared in her books, and yes I have more than a few in my library. Happy Belated Birthday!

  • P.S. I have several of Jeanne’s books as well but I would have to agree; the Advanced Perfumery & Exotics Workbook looks very interesting! Thank you for the reminder, CaFleureBon, of what an excellent resource Jeanne Rose truly is!

  • What a facinating women and life! What I wouldn’t give to spend a day with Jeanne, What a wonderful legacy she will leave to all of us interested in Aromatherapy. Her garden is just beautiful and John Singer Sargent is one of my favorites! Natural Perfumery would be my choice as a learning guide and one of my most treasured books.
Thank you for giving heart and soul to help each of us in so many ways.

  • I think it is facinating that you have identified your decades by scent. I’ll bet your garden is fabulous! I would love to win a copy of Jeanne Rose’s Kitchen Cosmetics because you look marvelous in your 8th decade!

  • i was just given a copy of Jeanne’s 1976 ‘Herbal Body Book’ to add to my collection of her work.

it’s with great respect and joy we celebrate Ms. Rose’s work and lifetime of teaching of aromatics!

i still like to use the reasoning “…cause Jeanne Rose said so.” when stumped for an answer. *grin*

i would love to read your ‘Natural Perfumery’ offering.

much gratitude, light & love, einsof

  • I would be interested in Kitchen Cosmetics.

What an amazing life and journey! That outfit is to die for, so rock n roll. Jeanne Rose is fascinating in toto, no one thing stands out.

One thing I do like is the use of “odor”. I think I am so used to odor being used to signify a bad smell that I was taken a bit aback to think about it connoting a good smell.

  • What an interesting life, she is truly a ‘woman of our times’ and has lived freely and followed her passion – a constant inspiration.
I wish she would write her autobiography!
I would also love the Natural Perfumery book.
    Thank you Jeanne, and Cafleurebon.
    Maggie x

  • I have been reading Jeanne’s books for many years and own several. She is so inspiring. I would love to get the “Natural Perfumery” book and dream of one day taking a class with her.

  • Stimulating the limbic system with scent is such an important and relatively unknown concept by the western medical community. Jeanne is a pioneer of research and influence for so many people, including myself. I am a holistic health care practitioner, acupuncturist and herbalist. I have used some aromatherapy but have recently become more and more interested in incorporating it into my healing sessions. This draw is perfect timing for me to add another book to my collection!
I would love to read, Blending Essential Oils for Healing Workbook.

  • What a great article and what a truly wonderful person Ms. Rose is! If EVER there was a “Living Legend” Natural Perfume (et al) Award, I would say SHE should win IT! 😉

From the sixties (OMG! She hung out with JANIS and made clothes for Donvan) to the seventies and even until now she has remained true to her vision. Her “mind and body as one” philosophy seems to be very true! She looks stunning for someone in her eighties! She is an inspiration and a true bringer of knowledge!

On pouring over her books RITUAL caught my attention…until I saw “NATURAL PERFUMERY” that is!! *sighs lovingly* Everything you need to know about natural perfumery, supplies, equipment and the building blocks (oils and essences) you need! THAT is the one I hope to win.

Thank you Jeanne for this wonderful piece and sharing your life and wonderful experiences with all of us. You are a maverick and a true force of nature. I love how time has given her perspective on TIME (in Yosh Han’s question) and “rising and falling like bubbles in a stream” was the perfect answer.

We can all learn a lot from Jeanne and feel that, just by reading this, I already have. Thanks to CaFleureBon for the chance to win one of these awesome works and (again) to Jeanne just for being the groovy gal you are!

  • By far this was the most inspiring “Profiles on American Perfumery” I have read thus far. Every decade of this extraordinary and beautiful woman’s life was filled with something interesting and exciting! As a person who was once obsessed with beauty products I love when she said “most of what we use we don’t need”. I only hope that I can look as fantastic as she does 35 years from now!

The book that piqued my interest was “Blending Essential oils for Healing” for I play around and make my own concoctions for family and close friends based on the information I obtain online regarding the healing properties of essential oils. Having this information in a publication from an expert in the field would be phenomenal!

    Thank you for the draw!

  • Jeanne Rose opened a world to me, for which I shall forever be grateful and enraptured.

This profile deepens and sweetens my appreciation: how she lives a life fully in one’s time, and in how through her ever constant and generous teachings, she gifts us these lost arts accessible.

Tincturing her son’s combat glove embodies the profoundly moving and poignant beauty of this tradition.

Just yesterday I was re-studying her distilling and hydosol books, all well worn, marked pages and in constant use. I would love to have an autographed copy of Herbs & Things as a precious addition to my working library!

  • Hello, everyone. Thanks for the compliments it is very rewarding.
The 8th decade means that you are in your 70’s; the 1st decade is 0-10. I don’t mind being 75 but adding all those years is somewhat exhausting.

  • Greyson Stoehr says:

Jeanne Rose IS where I began in all this perfumery…from the moment I found the book in the early 70’s. She’s been ‘my’ teacher from a distance, and my inspiration to keep going.

I would like The World of Aromatherapy with that evocative painting of the woman fuming her clothing with ambergris…

    Greyson Stoehr
    Manna Oils

  • BEST GURU EVER! LIVING LEGEND, ABSOLUTELY!

Her books are just the tip tip of the iceberg people. Her classes will overwhelm you with knowledge in the best way! You feel you have learned a lifetime worth of knowledge with each course.

Her Aromatherapy and Herbal Studies courses are beyond incredible. She takes all the folklore, astrology, color therapy, aromatherapy, herbs for diet, internal, external, exercise, herbs for specific body systems, how to garden by the moon and by the month. All written in a way that it just sticks in your brain because you know you have found your calling and have a teacher that knows what she is doing. Home study too, you get to call her!

What are you waiting for she is not going to be around forever..sign up, buy her life’s work before you can’t anymore.

    Love you Jeanne!

  • What I found most inspiring about this article was Jeanne’s efforts to take action to accomplish all that she has in her life. And what a full life! Many of us have ideas and dreams, and never make the effort to even try them.

I’m so glad that one of these accomplishments is her knowledge and experience in essential oils and plants, for that is my learning goal in life now. So much to learn–and I thank you, Jeanne Rose, for sharing it with us all!

Much appreciation to you too, CaFleureBon, and I’d be thrilled to receive Natural Perfumery.

  • This was a journey through the life of an extraordinary woman who has lived her passion. She inspires me to do what I love and listen to my inner voice. I appreciate the way she shared the ups and the downs and the honesty about when she started something and let something go for whatever reason.

I will take a course with her one day, but would love to receive the Natural Perfumer Book or The Aromatherapy Book”.

Thank you for all you have shared Jeanne!

  • She is such a giant in the industry, and really a trailblazer. Thank you for the lovely article! I’d love to have the Aromatherapy Treatments book, but if that’s not an option, the Herbal Guide to Food would be great!

  • OMG, what a lovely life ! So inspiring…I read some of her books but I would like to have Natural Perfumery
Advanced Perfumery & Exotics Workbook for my perfumery studies. Thank you for the article, is really great!

  • Amazing profile, and how is it possible to pick the most interesting out of such a remarkable life. The thing that really stoke a chord with me was her pop-up book collecting which she has donated. OMG! Love pop-up books and would love to see that collection, also; to smell the essence of her son’s Afghan combat glove, would love that, and last but not least; that über cool pic with Jeanne Rose and ‘the rose’.
The world of Aroma Therapy would be my book of choice.
Thank you for this portrait of a lady and the wonderful draw

  • The book, The World of Aromatherapy, is out of print. I believe that I have the last 8 copies that are available. This would be a great book as one of the ‘draws’ as it is now a classic – written by 25 of the 90’s great women of aromatherapy.

  • This whole interview was absolutely fascinating. I’m not sure I could pick just one thing. Jeanne has truly lived a full life, and I loved reading about it decade by decade. All of her books look wonderful, but I would love to own Natural Perfumery: Advanced Perfumery & Exotics Workbook.

  • I must say I found this article the most interesting yet in your series on American perfumers. What an amazing and beautiful woman. It was interesting to see her lifetime scroll like a film reel. It was inspirational, and I loved the way her career changed with her interests. As I am new to Jeanne Rose’s works, I guess I would start at the beginning with Herbs and Things.

  • This was a great article to read! I’m really inspired by Jeanne’s attitude towards health and scent, that “natural odors can keep you healthy” and she has certainly proved this to be true. I would love to learn more by reading Natural Perfumery- Advanced Perfumery & Exotics Workbook.

  • I had to see which book I didn’t have so if I should be lucky I would like How To book on Distillation.

  • I am new to this world of perfumes and natural scents, and i find Jeanne Roses life fascinating. To have such a purpose in life to teach what one is fervent about must be truly rewarding. If i win the draw i would love to have Natural Perfumery Advanced Perfumery & Exotics Workbook

  • Jeanne Rose is such an inspiration. I took a class of hers many moons ago…back in my aromatherapy days with NAHA.

Her diverse background really makes her who she is today..artsy, full of knowledge, and life experience.

Kudos to you Jeanne..your books Herbs and Things, and the Aromatherapy Book were like Bibles back in the day..my copies are well used…

I would love her book How To on Distillation.

  • As I was flitting from blog to blog I came accross this about Jeanne Rose
I have always been slightly obsessed with ‘smell’…I am sure people thought or maybe still think I am bonkers…

Then Aromatherapy began to get popular and in the late 1980’s I trained as an Aromatherapist – unfortunately I didnt persue it and it’s a hidden talent now.

I am however still fascinated by fragrances, oils, their scent and their therapuetic qualities.

I am so pleased I have found you Jeanne rose.

If I were to win I’d love the ‘Ritual’ book

Thank you for this wonderful blog

    Diana

  • In my sixth decade, I am finally allowing myself to follow my path of happiness and enlightenment. I find it incredibly inspiring to read about Jeanne Rose’s journey, life and accomplishments, her contribution to the many facets of the perfume and herbal world. I loved the decade by decade breakdown -fascinating life experiences.

I have had a lifelong obssession with scents, smells, all things herbal, natural and of the earth. So thank you for this, so very uplifting. I would die to take any instruction or class from her. Her knowledge is vast. I would love to win Advanced Perfumery and Exotics Workbook.

    Keep on truckin’ Jeanne! xoxo
    Deborah

  • wow. I was so inspired by this article,
I loved the love with which Jeanne Rose refers to teaching.
she sounds like a true teacher, and I would want to meet her in person. I would want to learn from her.
I will read more of her books
    thank you so much
all the books sound so rich with information,
but I would chose to start with the book hydrosolsand aromatic waters

  • Rachel Owens says:

I have been interested in herbs since I was about 12 or so, when I discovered Jeanne Rose’s early books in the library back in the 70’s. This article made me so happy. I loved seeing everything laid out in chronological order, and the photos were a real treat. I have quite a few of Jeanne Rose’s books, and would love to have the Advanced Perfumery and Exotics Workbook, although I’ve also been eying the hydrosol books for a few months now.

  • A life in scent, what a thread to weave a narrative around. My interest in perfume led me to my interest in natural perfume, and now I’m studying herbs and just want to be around plants. Just as Jeanne Rose predicted would happen! If I were to win I would choose her Natural Perfumery Workbook. I love your Profiles in American Perfumery series!!

  • I’ve had the Aromatherapy book for over 14 years and have continued to make my own blends. However, not like I did when I worked at Body Time. I actually missed meeting Jeanne Rose when she was giving a seminar at work…I just had to get sick! I think it would be great to receive Herbal Guide to Food. Thank you! 🙂

  • On a whim I purchased Jeanne’s aromatherapy course. I didn’t know anything about her but took a chance. That chance has greatly paid off in the knowledge I’ve gained over the past several years. I’ve definitely gotten my money’s worth from The Aromatherapy Book. Thank you Jeanne!

My book choice would be the Distillation How-to Booklet.

  • Michelle Hunt says:

When I first became interested in making perfumes as a college student, my very first book was “The Aromatherapy Book”. I remember the leap of excitement when I found it in the bookstore, and I read and re-read that book until the cover became worn and bent. I have it still, and it continues to be a treasured part of my library.
The most fascinating part of this interview is, well, how many fascinating things Jeanne has to share :-). I particularly like knowing the passion she continues to have for her teaching. Jeanne is a wonderful teacher and I thoroughly enjoyed the intensive and class I attended years ago.
I would love to enter for a chance to win the Natural Perfumery book!

  • Tincture of Brian’s combat glove. Only Jeanne would think of it and only Jeanne could accomplish it. Appreciated Jeanne since 1974, when first I read “Herbs & Things.” Will refer other readers to this article. With gratitude and regards.

  • Jeanne Rose in an incredible wealth of information that the world needs! I took her Natural Perfumery Intensive. It was so worth it! One of my classmates even traveled from Europe to take the class. I was there when she made the second tincture of her son’s combat glove. I don’t know anyone who knows more about herbs, essential oils, gardening, natural body care, perfumery, distillation, and more all wrapped into one. She is a role model for me … one day I too will be 75 years old and hope to have also accumulated as much experience as she with such a tremendous desire to share it with the world that so needs it. Love you Jeanne!

  • I fist met Jeanne Rose, through her book Herbs and Things, maybe in 1989. Fascinated by her knowledge, free spirit style. I purchased as many books as i could.
I remember when The Aromatherapy Book was supposed to be availible, but delayed, I remember just how disappointed i was until it finally became available.

She was the only teacher i really wanted, so i took An Herbal study course with her.

I am so inspired by her life, faith and love for plants. She is January born, before her time.

    Thanks so much Jeanne

  • I had admired your works from afar! I’m so very sorry for such a terrible loss..

    From my heart
    Veronica

  • What a wonderful woman. I met her at an aromatherapy conference in San Francisco hosted by Kurt Schnaubelt. I too remember moments and times that were filled by scents transient and dashing, brooding or enveloping.

  • Don’t enroll me for a book, but I had to comment! She is holding the same edition of Herbs and Things that I have been reading for many decades! I do love that book and will always have a copy on my shelf. I sourced a second just to send to a friend who was getting a license in aromatherapy. It’s not only hugely informative, it’s a wonderful bath of calm reason and friendlly suggestion. Jeanne Rose must’ve been the most awesome lady in person.
