CaFleureBon Editors’ Best Cold Weather Scents + Outside In “A Winter’s Tale”- Five Bottle Fragrance Draw

winter fragrances

Does a perfumista really need an excuse to try a new fragrance? A change in season is a good time to switch things up.  T.S. Eliot said "April is the cruelest month"; we think it has been this January– brutally cold, an early flu season and heavy snow storms. The best winter scents are the ones we wear to warm up when the weather makes us shiver.

Michelyn Camen, Editor-in Chief

I am not a snow bunny; I'd rather be indoors wafting my favorite winter perfumes that wrap me in their scented cocoon.

Gaiac by Parfums M.Micallef has been one of my favorite winter scents these past few days  and every winter since I bought my first bottle five years ago.  When it was first launched, I read somewhere it was a "men's" fragrance which was baffling because  on me this is the perfume equivalent of a  close fitting gown stitched in  liquid gold. Rich, opulent with a heart of jasmine, Gaiac is a beautifully balanced blend of sweet resins, dry woods and sensuous spice. The clove and vanilla combo is unlike any I have ever smelled. Gaiac turns up the thermostat in just one spritz.

I understand why Mark made such a fuss about  Rima XI by Carner Barcelona ; I fell in love and I fell hard. This fragrance is pure poetry (its based on  the haunting verses of the same name by 19th century poet Gustavo Adolfo Becquer) and is best worn on a cold winter's eve when you lie wide awake and the room is so still you hear the sound of your own breathing. When I wear Rima XI, I dream of walking through a moonlit Andalusian garden redolent of night blooming jasmine and in the woody shadows he awaits me. A gentle lover, Rima XI beckons with its soft spicy breath of cardamom and nutmeg, as it binds you in "braids of gold" saffron. The slightly sweet amber and madagascar vanilla lulls you to sleep. Tender is the night.

There have been a few new additions to my winter rotation but there are two forever staples for me.

Guerlain Bois D’Armenie was, until recently, the only Guerlain incense fragrance. It is based on the burning incense papers called Papier D’Aremnie. This is an incense as only Guerlain could produce decadent and sweet with no sharp edges. It is just what I need as the temperature nose dives.

The other classic is Chanel Egoiste as it also just feels like the equivalent of an Irish Cable Knit sweater thick and warm and luxurious. Egoiste is what I pull on when I just want to stare into the fire.

tama's favorite winter fragrances -woman-with-a-cat-portrait-of-madame-manet woman with a flu

Edouard Manet

 –Tama Blough, Senior Editor

I have had the flu for about a month, so my most frequently worn scent has actually been Vick’s Vapo Rub ™, the scent of which I actually adore. In that vein, I have also been wearing Serge Luten’s mentholated beauty, Tubereuse Criminelle. The medicinal opening is actually my favorite part of the perfume, and when I am feeling congested and miserable it perks me up. The beauty of the tuberose heart makes me feel pretty and glamorous even if I’m spending the day in my pajamas, lounging with my kitty in front of the heater.

When I am feeling like I just want something cozy and enveloping as a break from medicine, I have been enjoying Atelier Cologne Ambre Nue. I have just a little bit of it, hopefully enough to last the winter. It is not an overly sweet or cloying amber scent, but is definitely warming, and although fairly delicate, holds its own against heavier winter perfumes that would upset my fraught nasal membranes right now. I hope to add a bottle to my comfort scent collection so I can count on it to see me through the next few flu seasons.

 winter-landscape baghari best winter scents

Winter. The very thought brings images of ice covered trees, thick falling snow and smoke billowing from chimneys. A time for wrapping up in one’s favorite sweater or comfy quilt calls for heavier spicier scents that warm the heart as much as the soul. I often thumb my nose at traditional “seasonal” perfumes and wear what I like…there are; however, some times when nothing but a thick oriental perfume will do. These are two of my favorites…

ROBERT PIGUET Baghari is one of my favorite classic oriental floral perfumes. A bright aldehydic opening with both citrus fruit and blossom greets the nose sharply before mellowing to a delightful floral mélange. Aurélien Guichard  took the most powerful flowers and twisted them into a stunning beauty. Majestic rose, sweet jasmine, dry violet and cool steely iris sing out in a bold and beautiful floral song. It is the finish, however, that really gets me. Like a scorching scirroco wind, crumbly amber, smoky vetiver, musk and vanilla arrive and dessicate the flowers slightly. All that is left is a spicy sweet balm with haunting memories of flowers.

PRADA Amber Pour Homme Intense  is a definite go-to scent for me on cold days when I need something a little deeper, darker and masculine. No one was more surprised than me that I liked this particular flanker even better than the original! It opens with the same clean bergamot/orange blossom/mint accord but that is short-lived. Dry geranium and saffron capture the classy scent of men’s by-gone vintage scents, before it becomes a swarthy and oriental dream. Anything vaguely resembling the original is now gone. Sweet scented balms mesh with incense, patchouli and just a hint of leather over sandalwood and musk.

 jasmine et cigaratte perfume

Valerie Vitale, Contributing Editor

Etat Libre D’Orange, Jasmin et Cigarette is definitely theatrical. Jasmine comes spilling forth on my skin, and then there is the anticipation BEFORE the cigarette is lit. The soft pack that gets scrunched in my mother’s purse, the smack smack of the pack that hits the palm of her hand and leads us to a strong waft of COLD tightly packed slightly sweet-dried tobacco. There is a happy overall waxiness to the fragrance that makes it a bit quirky, but it somehow remains a diva.

Wear Caron Tabac Blond and you can channel all the smoking suffragettes who wore it in 1919 (created by Ernest Daltroff).  Its strength and attitude has the ability to ignite any grey single-digit day. This is a full throttle fragrance that is leathery and smoky. Its strong spine is a spicy floral note that slowly changes to rest on an amber y base adding warmth and an afterglow.

For our draw we have five full bottles from our "best scents for winter cold weather". We also love Freddie Mercury of Queen singing Outside in A Winter's Tale

  • Amongst my favorite winter scents are TF Noir de Noir, Memo Quartier Latin, Micallef Ylang in Gold, Caron Tabac Blond, Naomi Goodsir Cuir Velours and the ever so lovely vintage and current Caron Bellodgia Parfum Extrait. There are definitely others also. Current temperature here in Wisconsin is -3 degrees. Yep its cold outside.

  • francescabelanger says:

I just purchased my first fb of Bois d’Armenie and I love it in the cold. I like the spicy ones, too, like 10 Corso Como, and a nice boozy vanilla like SDV. And oh, hey, it’s 18 degrees F! Warming up here in NYC.

  • Completely on board with Gaiac and, especially, Bois d’Armenie…a holy grail fragrance if ever there was one. Baghari sounds most interesting, I will have to sample that soon. Other winter favorites include L’Occitane Eau des Baux, Rochas Man, TF Tobacco Vanille and my new obsession, Spicebomb. Current temp here in NY is 18.
    I want to win Gaiac

  • I haven’t tried very many of these! The Amber Nue, Baghari and Carner Barcelona Rima XI appeal to me the most.

Thank you for the winter goodness!

  • Carlos J Powell says:

I love Amber. Ambre Nue, Amber Absolute, Tom Ford Black Orchid, Memoir Man, Interlude Man, among my favorites. I would love to win MM Gaiac or Jasmin et Cigarette. Thank you.

  • I would love to try ELd’O Jasmine et Cigarette! Here in Barcelona…9º C (48 F) at 2:38 a.m.

    Thank you for the draw!

  • My favorites mentioned here are Guerlain Bois d’Armenie and Caron Tabac Blond. I would love to try the Carner Barcelona Rima XI mentioned here…your description is amazing! It is 7 degrees here tonight. I wore Bois d’Armenie this morning and just respritzed some AP Bois d’encens tonight as my cold weather scents.

  • What a great list because Gaiac, Bois d’Armenie, Tubereuse Criminelle (only wearable in winter… at least outside my bedroom), Tabac Blond, and Rima XI are all on my favorite winter list. I’d also like to add L’eau d’Hiver, SSS Winter Woods, Le Labo Vanille 44, Poivre 23 and oh so many others =) I already own a bottle of Micallef Gaiac so would love to be in the draw for Carner Barcelona Rima XI because my sample vial will run out soon!

  • Ooh, I’d love the Rima XI or the Micallef Gaiac. I’ve tried the latter and think it’s wonderful, but the Rima XI sounds riveting. It’s rainy and 45 degrees Fahrenheit in Seattle right now — fairly typical for us!

  • Most of my favorite fragrances would probably be considered winter fragrances, since I prefer very heavy hitters! My favorites include Nuit de Noel, The Party in Manhattan, Jubilation 25, Poivre, Back to Black, Opium and Asja.

I would be so excited if I won any of these perfumes, but Gaiac, Amber Nue Cologne Absolue, Baghari, and Rima XI sound especially good.

It is a brisk 1 degree here in North Dakota, with a windchill of -21. Thank you to the generous sponsors and CaFleureBon for giving me warm, lovely things to dream about!

  • Would like to try Baghari! I was thinking about winter fragrances just this morning and how they change when the temperature goes down to 15F/ -8C, as it is right now. It’s warmed up a little and the frigid wind off Lake Erie has stopped for the moment.

  • Gaiac is the fragrance I most want to try from this post, and it’s currently 16 degrees where I am. Now I want to listen to Queen II, really loud.

  • I would love to try Gaiac, it sounds amazing. And it’s about 25 degrees outside now…I’ll probably pull out my decant of Bois d’Armenie for my sote, thanks for the reminder! And thanks as ever for an amazing draw!

  • What a great article!! I would love to win Jasmin et Cigarette (it’s my fave ELdO ) Gaiac or Rima XI. Thanks for the draw!!

  • It is 15 degrees here @ 9:12 pm! The fragrances I would want to win are: Bois d’Armenie, Gaic, or Baghari. Thanks for the draw! 🙂

  • It’s 16 degrees and my down quilt is at the cleaners
It felt like spring last week
I have the flu like Tama and am miserable
I am down for Rima XI ( I could use something to bind me in god saffron, nice), jasmine et cigarette, and guaiac
Great suggestions and I loved the picture of Edie Sedgwick and the music by queen

  • It’s 19 degrees F. right now; we’re expecting more snow tomorrow. Brrr! I love Ambre Nue, and am very interested in trying Rima XI — but I think I might go with Baghari if I won — those aldehydes lift up my drooping winter spirits like magic!

  • My favorites on here are Tabac Blonde, which I adore and Baghari, which I always forget that I adore! It’s 12 degrees with a 30mph wind and it’s nights like these that I am forever grateful that we have a fenced yard. If I won (deedle dum) I would be happy with Rima XI, Baghari…and a bottle of an additional 60 degrees and rising, if you please! xoxoxoA

  • Out of the 5 offered for the draw I really like wearing Gaiac and Ambre Nue in the winter. I would love to try Rima Xi or Baghari.
It is -9 C right now. Crazy!

  • I would love to try Rima XI, it sounds enchanting! It’s 25 degrees C today, which is a relief after yesterday’s 35 degrees. Melbourne temperatures are pretty nuts this month. Oh, for air conditioning…

  • Ambre Nue the one among the five that I would adopt in a heartbeat should I be given the chance. I have not tried all of the others though so I can’t be objective about it. I can not complain about the weather when there is 14 C outside and I haven’t yet met my old nemesis the flu this season. (glee)…

  • I love queen and winters tale thank you for that video, its been years since I heard it.
I am only familiar with Egoiste and tabac blonde forgot although they aren’t the same these days
After the description of Rima,Gaiac, baghari and jasmine et cigarette
I would be thrilled to win any of them
Andalusian garden under a full moon sounds exactly where I would want to be rather than San Fan although its downright balmy here at 53 degrees but not a star in the sky
    Thank you for this opportunity

  • Your winter lists sound so intriguing! I’m under the covers with the windows open for a taste of the 15 degree frigid air. I’d love to try Gaiac, Rima XI or Bois de Armenie….the description of Rima XI was simply beautiful!

  • I’d love to try the Gaiac or Rima XI fragrances. Both sound utterly delicious! Alas, it’s never really cold where I am so I don’t have any scents that are purely for warmth and feeling cozy, though I do turn to Ambre Narguilé when I want some sweetness.

  • ha! It’s 71 degrees Faranheit in Austin, TX as I type this! BALMY!! Jealous everyone?? 🙂

I would most love Jasmin et Cigarette, but I’d also settle for Baghari. Or even Ambre Nue if it came to it. 🙂

  • farawayspices says:

Rima XI sounds like a wonderful cloak of spices, which would provide an escapist sense of heat in this chilly 18 degree weather!

  • Janet in California says:

I would like to try the Amber Nue. It is 55 degrees here.

I completely agree with you about the SL Tubereuse Criminelle. I love that Vicks opening! I hope you feel better soon.

  • Lovely choices. I am dying to try Carner Rima XI and I wonder why
i don’t own a bottle of Gaiac yet. The colder weather means I have dusted off Chergui, Fumerie Turque, Mauboussin, and SSS Tabac Aurea. Thank you for the draw!

  • I must be near Janet in California (see above) because it’s also 55 degrees here but it is till winter to me. When its even a little chilly I like to wear warming amber and spicy scents (Tolu, Eau Lente, Indochine) so your descriptions of Gaiac and Rima XI, which I’ve never tried before, made my heart beat a little faster. I’d love a chance to try either of those.

  • I like my winter scents spicy and dark, like the original YSL Opium or TF Noir de Noir. The Carner Barcelona Rima XI, sounds right up my alley.

  • Well so much for winter here. It was 78F here today and is now 66 I think. I wore my precious SSS Incense Pure anyway as it is my absolute favorite (at the moment) for cold weather and thankfully the A/C was on full blast at work. Ambre Russe or Ambre Russe mixed with Loretta have also been on heavy rotation as well as the CdG incenses and SSS Voile de Violette. I would love to try Gaiac.

  • I’m on the either side of the globe, in Australia, and it’s currently 26 degrees celsius outside. Our Summer has been very harsh this year, with many bushfires and a few lives lost.

I love both Baghari and Micallef Gaiac. But if I had to choose, I would go with RP Baghari EDP.

Thanks for the draw! You have made me look forward to Winter.

  • Great draw! It’s -12 C here, which I think is about 10 Fahrenheit. And I would just like to add that I went for a 6.5 km run earlier.

I love Tabac Blonde! If I weren’t wearing Shalimar right now, I’d go run spritz some on. Lovely winter frag.

I’d love to win Gaiac! I’ve heard wonderful things, but I haven’t tried it, and so adore the bottle.

    Thanks for the draw.

  • I love “Bois d’Armenie” and would like to try “Rima XI” and “Gaiac”
    it’s 17 C right now, but I’m far away…
    thanks for the draw

  • My favorite mentioned in the article is Tabac Blond. It’s currently 23F right now. I would love to win either Jasmine et Cigarette or Baghari. Thank you for the draw!

  • One of my favorite notes for a winter scent is amber. A lot of my perfumes contain amber and imo it’s a perfect base for a winter scent. Until now non of the 5 scents is one of my favorites, but then again I only tried 2 of them. I would love to try “Gaiac”, “Rima XI” or “Ambre Nue” and see if they can become one of my winter favorites.

The temperature outside is currently -3C (26.6F).

  • I’m always torn in winter between the aldehydes and my “big guns” of incense, heavy woods and resins, so it’s not that unusual for me to change my perfume twice or three times per day, just to make sure every single smell gets to go out with me. No, really, besides hating low temperatures (I’ve lived in places where it gets as cold as -30C), I admire how versatile can you get with your fragrance in winter! Chanel No.5/No.19, HdP Tuberose Animale, SL Ambre Sultan, Oud/Cuir/Ambre of MdO, RP Bandit, Bvlgari Black, to name just a few of my favourites… From the ones mentioned in the article I’d love to win Carner Barcelona Rima XI or Jasmine et Cigarette!

  • Unfortunately I have not tried any of these wonderfully described scents. What I grab for in this weather is musc ravageur and xerjoff lira. I definitely would be interested in rima XI or the Gaiac. It is 64 degrees here in sunny San Diego as I type…

  • marcopietro says:

My favorite winter scents are Serge Noir by Lutens and Musc Ravageur by Malle. At the moment ( 8:30 a.m.) in this part of north Italy we have a pleasant day, it’s 4° C.
I would like to try “Carner Barcelona Rima XI”.

  • It is something like 4 or 5 degrees out (F) and with the wind chill feels like -9
Hope everyone is staying warm and recovering fully from the flu (or keeping well clear of coming down with it)!
Winter scents indeed–warming and lovely, very timely post.
From my own, I really like PG Ombre Fauve for cuddliness, Caron Poivre and Diptyque Eau Lente for spice and also PG Bois Blond, don’t know why but have been loving it lately. Bois D’Armenie is lovely too! Cloudy-soft and powdery-warm.

From the scents in the draw, I think my two favorites would be Gaiac and Rima XI. They sound so well-made and well-loved! Would be interested in trying Jasmin et Cigarette now that I appreciate jasmine….

Thanks everyone for all the reviews and the draw!

  • I would like to try all of them but first and foremost I would go with Carner Barcelona Rima XI and Baghari by Robert Piguet. The temperature outside is -3 degrees Celsius and everything is covered in white, since it has started to snow again.

  • Unfortunately I didn’t had the chance to try any of the mentioned scents, but I really wanna try Rima XI or Ambre Nue. My favourite winter scents are JHG Citizen Queen, ELDO Noel au Balcon and Atelier Cologne Vanille Insensée. The temperature is now 0° C here in Hungary, near Budapest.

  • Occasionally, I find that something summery can be a nice antidote, like Bond No. 9 Fire Island. Otherwise, I’ve been trying to combat the bleakness of winter with big, rich scents. I often reach for Black Cashmere, Ambre Narguile, and Bois des Iles, for example.

Out of the ones you list, I’d love to try any of them, but Gaiac, Rima XI, or Ambre Nue would be my first choices.

  • It’s -25 C here in Toronto. This whole week has been particularly brutally cold. Any perfume described as a “close fitting gown stitched in liquid gold” is something I would like to try! I would love to win the Micallef Gaiac. Thank you!

  • I read a lot about Etat Libre D’Orange Jasmine et Cigarette, but never had the opportunity to test it. Outside it is 3 C, mostly cloudy. I would say that it is more like a bitter autumn, than a gentle winter.

  • Muzzammil.B says:

My favorites for winter is Mona do orios Vanilla. Her it is -17 f.I would love to try win the Gaiac or Rima XI. Thank you for the draw.

  • David Ecker says:

Definitely would want to try Rima and Micallef as I don’t own those brands. Most excited about Rima. I love nutmeg and saffron.

  • I haven´t tried any of these but would like MM Gaiac. Now it is -7°C with strong wind, a chilly, bone-biting weather.

  • Baghari is my favorite in the list. I love the citrus in the opening and the soapy-spiced base.
But, if I win, I will pick Rima from Carner Barcelona because I’m looking forward to trying some perfume from this brand.

Temperture now is 12°C and sunny.

    Thanks!

  • I receontly sampled Jasmin et Cigarette and loved it ! I was thinking of getting a full bottle so naturally this is what I would like to win.
It’s around 12 C here in Athens, Greece.

    Thank you for the draw!

  • Gaïac is my holy grail, and Jasmin et Cigarettes is really nice, but the one I really would like to win in order to try it is Rima XI.
The temperature outside is 3º C in our mild but cool Madrid.

  • From those that are listed as your favourite perfume for winter I tried Atelier Cologne Ambre Nue which is really gorgeous, so I don’t have to try this one again.
I have a serious bite to try Rima XI I’ve read so many great reviews about that I will probably order a sample from Carner Barcelona, unless I win 🙂

  • Even though the temperature here in Florida is warm,
it is still the winter season! I would love to try
    Gaiac by M. Micallef.
    Thanks for the draw!

  • just breathe says:

    Yesterday was -1 F so today is a heatwave at 5 F 🙂 !!
Would love to try Ambre Nuit.
    Thanks for the draw!

  • It is currently 18 F here, which is not too bad when the wind doesn’t bite. I’ve wanted to try Micallef Gaiac forever, it sounds like just my thing. Rima XI also intrigues me. The descriptions of Ambre Nue and Baghari are just wonderful and warming for chilly days! I do love Jasmin et Cigarette, but often wear it in the springtime. Thanks for giving me the inspiration to try it in these wintery temperatures.

  • It’s so cold here, -18C, I have no idea what’s that in Farenheits but trust me, it’s cold. If I win I’d love to try Carner Barcelona Rima XI. Thanks for this draw!

  • John Holland says:

Here in northern California, it is a chilly 38 degrees F, but that is balmy compared to my childhood spent in New Jersey. I have been wearing a lot of Halston Man Amber this winter, but would love to try some ELDO Jasmine & Cigarettes or that warm sounding Atelier Ambre Nue. Thank you for all the cozy suggestions.

  • Bobbie Bihel says:

Ooh,tough choice, but the Gaiac would certainly help to warm up the -30 windchill out there today!

  • Thanks for the draw! I have been wearing Coromandel quite often, along with Carnal Flower ( not at the same time, though). Those two are very warming to my nose. I would love to try Gaiac or Ambre Nue. They sound as though they would fit perfectly into my little collection. My collection is totally comprised of samples so a full bottle of something would be an achievement. Temperature is now 15F.

  • It’s a snowy 30 degrees Fahrenheit this morning in Chicago. My favorite winter scent is Chanel Coromandel. I’d probably pick Bois d’Armenie because you can’t go wrong with Guerlain.

  • I’m originally from Florida but just moved to South Carolina, and for the first time, it’s “ice pelletting”. Is that a verb? It’s like snow, but less fun. It’s 26F outside at the moment. Oh Florida, how I miss you!!

Until recently, my idea of winter was 60F! So my winter perfume arsenal is sadly lacking. Of these, I have only tried Gaiac (which I would LOVE to win), but you make them **ALL** sound so good. Rima has night blooming jasmine?? Seriously?? I’ve been searching for a night blooming jasmine scent! So I’ll have to try that even if I don’t win.

I’m a huge fan of Atelier, even though I haven’t tried this one. Whoever wins it is VERY lucky! I know I sound like a broken record, but their soaps are amazing.

This is such a great drawing!!

  • Gaiac by Parfums M.Micallef sounds wonderful – I’d be interested in sniffing a unique take on clove and vanilla combo (Costume National Pour Homme seems to do this quite well, though I’m not sure vanilla is actually a note, more like vanilla feel. Either way, the next morning it always smells a bit like TF Tobacco Vanille in the hot steam of the shower).

Speaking of morning, we’re experiencing a heat wave in Upstate New York with -2 at the moment. Fortunately no snow… yet.

  • I like from that list Carner Rima XI and also Micallef Gaiac. Right now is 59F with rain in Los Angeles.

  • I would want to try Baghari by Piguet. Now in Italy is afternoon. I live in the north and the temperature outside is +5°C (a little too warm for january here in Pianura Padana….)

  • Baghari…would love to try! Twenty degrees and light flurries here in Chicago as I look out over the city.

  • I got a sample of Gaiac when I ordered a bottle of Micallef Gardenia. It was yummy and I would love to win a bottle.

  • I love Egoiste! I horde the old “cologne concentree” formulation. Today I am in Boston and it’s been absolutely frigid this week. SOTD is Ambre Sultan. Would love to win the Gaiac, my favorite Micallef scent.

  • Of course I would love to try Carner Rima XI. It’s finally warmed up to normal here in Seattle (with the typical rain) after a horrible cold spell of subfreezing temperatures.

  • I would love to try Rima XI by Carner..Paris is freezing up and Carner’s glorious offering would be a great antidote..

  • I would like to win Carner Barcelona Rima XI. It s -7°C clear sky outside in place where I live (at 17:00 CET). Forecast says that temperature will drop to -13°C tonight.

  • Today is mostly cloudy in Stockholm and -11C. My favorit winter fragrances are Eau de Merveilles by Hermes, Neroli Jasmin from The Body Shop and the ultimate Portrait of a Lady by Frederick Malle. I’d like to choose Micallef’s Gaiac or Carner Rima IX. Thanks for the draw!

  • I am visiting family in Ca. so i am lucky: it is 51 here this morning because back at home in NY it’s 28.
I love Gaiac by M. Micallef and I’d be very happy to win some! This winter I have been wearing Chanel Coromandel, Hermes l’ambre des Merveilles, Atelier Ambre Nue, Chantecaille Kalimantan, and Olfactive Studio Chambre Noir.

  • I would love to try ELDO Jasmine cigarette. Right now I’m on vacation in SFO and its 13 deg c outside now. Thanks for the draw.!

  • Not cold here in Portland, OR. 43 degrees – but it is gray and damp. Does that count? Today I am wearing Hermes Eau de Merveilles. It is hitting the spot. I would like to try the Atelier Cologne Ambre Nue.

  • Right now in the burbs of Philly it is 21* F, and we are awaiting snow. I love all of the descriptions of these fragrances. Sad to say, the Chanel is the only one I have ever tried. (Loved it!) I would truly love to try any of these fragrances. I have never even heard of Carner Barcelona, so I’d like to try that.

  • Anna in Edinburgh says:

It’s Burns Night tonight and, suitably, we’ve got a higher temperature of 2 degrees C at the moment.

All five fragrances are tempting but I’m opting for Rima XI by Carner Barcelona because there has been such favourable feedback about it recently.

  • All five are gorgeous!!! My favorite one of them is Jasmine et Cigarettes is is trully a smoky lovely perfume perfect for winter. Since the weather is very cold this year I wear often Sunshine and Pancakes by 4160 Tuesdays that reminds me of sunny days! Oh and the temp outside is now just 1 degree Celcius.

  • Gaiac sounds like it’s exactly what I want in a perfume. I so wish it were more “wintery” here!

  • I would love to try Gaiac, please!here in Dublin is not very cold, about 6 degrees but it is raining buckets!

  • I like Gaiac quite a lot but Rima would be my choice. It’s about -4°C here at this moment.

  • All the scents sound wonderful, but if I have to choose I would like to try Gaiac. Outside it’s -15 C at the moment but apparantly the temperature is expected to drop over the weekend.

  • Christine B says:

I very much like Baghari but I think of it more as a good weather scent so I think I shall choose a fragrance that I have not yet tried, but which sounds wonderful for this time of year, namely Gaiac by Parfums M. Micallef. The weather is just changing here. The snow of the last week is melting and the below freezing temperatures being replaced by warmer air and a steady drizzle outside. It is much better to be curled up indoors!

  • I would love to have a bottle of ELDO Jasmine et Cigarette. It’s 14 F here in sunny New Hampshire. Brrrr…

  • It´s just 1ºC here and feeling like some Jasmine et Cigarette by État Libre d´Orange to warm up the evening.

  • It’s 2ºC near London at the moment, so warming up! Thanks for the reviews. I’d most like to try the Amber Nue, since I love amber and Ralf Schwieger is one of my favorite perfumers.

  • It’s 2ºC just outside London right now, so warming up! Thank you for the reviews. I’d most like to try the Amber Nue because I love amber and because Ralf Schwieger is one of my favorite perfumers.

  • I would most like to try Gaiac by M. Micallef because you make it sound so very warm and sensuous.

Right now it’s 44 degrees in my soggy, grey corner of the world.

  • I have been longing to try Gaiac since I first read the notes. It is currently 46 degrees and raining in the PNW.

  • I think I would really like Carner Barcelona Rima XI or Baghari, although I have not tried them. The temperature here is 21 F or -6C. Thank you for this draw.

  • SisterSpecies says:

I loved Gaiac when I first smelled it last year and had frankly forgotten about it until now. I think a bottle of that would be most lovely on this rainy day. 36 degrees and dropping here in the Siskiyou Mountains…

  • I would love to try Rima XI by Carner Barcelona because of the beautiful poetic description of the scent.

We don’t have winter here because I’m from the tropics but it’s currently 18C outside.

  • I would love to try the Gaiac and the Amber Nu has been on my list to sample for awhile now so thanks for the review. It’s currently 51 degrees and dropping in the US southwest. (Yesterday it was 73 degrees and felt like Spring!) I hope you feel better soon 🙂

  • We are currently having a heatwave and bushfires, today 36 degrees C.
I would love to try Gaiac by M Micallef, and I think I would not wait for cold weather to wear it!

  • The weather in Southern California is an unseasonably cold 53° degrees. I had to turn the heater on and wear my footed pajamas. The scent that I have a hankering for is Rims XI it soft spicy allure seems perfect for these cold and rainy nights. Thanks for another wonderful draw

  • I would love to try Baghari for it sounds amazing! Outside, now are -2 celsius degrees and it is snowing. Thanks for the draw.

  • Your description of Giac makes me salivate to try it! It’s a balmy 5 degrees here in the Pacific Northwest.

  • Would love to try Gaiac, as it sounds amazing.

The temperature outside is -3°C, which is a relief after yesterday morning’s -19°C.

  • Kamajasmine says:

It’s 52 Fahrenheit in balmy California. Although this is cold for us
I really liked this list of winter fragrances because it was so diverse
I love all things jasmine so Jasmine et cigarette , gaiac and Rima XI would be my choices
Very poetic description of Rima , baghari and jasmine et cigarette
    Lovely writing
I will fall asleep now and dream of Andalusia and a fragrant lover
I never heard of Carner Barcelona until Cafleurebon
You guys are great source for what’s new and exciting
Thank u for also writing so much about artisan perfumers
I lurk alot and don’t comment that often but I read you almost every day

  • Hey, we are starting to warm up now (Sat morn) to 25F in northern Ohio. At least the sun is shining, which is something we don’t see much of this time of year. I would be happy to win any of these scents, but you make Gaiac sound so wonderful, that I have to go with that one.

  • I think you were reading my mind. I have been craving M. Micallef’s Gaiac for the past month. Maybe my craving will be rewarded with a bottle!! It’s been much too cold this past week (right now it’s 25 degrees outside) and I need a little warmth!

  • I love Gaiac, and would love to try the Rima XI. It’s a relatively balmy 57 degrees here in my part of Northern California.

  • It is freezing cold here, with great winds that make it hard to go outside, so I cuddle up and dream of Gaiac, or Ambre nue!

  • I would love to win Gaiac by M. Micalleff. The temperature is -2 degrees centigrade here in Ireland. Cold wet and very gr´¥!

  • I am most attracted to the notes in Baghari, and I am intrigued by this fragrance. I have never smelled it, but it sounds lovely. I’m also very tempted by Jasmine et Cigarette. Fascinating description.

  • Jasmine Et cigarette, by ELO. Not tobacco, but cigarette: this scent intrigues me. I can imagine the scent of the nocturnal warm-weather jasmine warming up my senses on this -24 Montreal winter evening. Brrr!

  • I do like Micallef Gaiac, but I would love to own Rima XI. It’s 50 degrees here in the East Bay of San Francisco.

  • Outside is-1C °, which means 30.2F ° , sunny, no wind. A very nice winter day with the remains of snow. All the five fragrances sounds great.Carner Barcelona Rima XI is my choice.

  • I’d like to be wrapped up in Gaiac on a cool cool nite like this. It’s 24C here. Not freezing I know but gloomy skies + comfort scent is perfect.

  • In winter I am dreaming of baghari or Gaiac. It’s not freezing now but a hug from special perfume is nevertheless comforting at all times.

  • Its 55F as I am writing here. Beautiful comfort scent needs no temperature or time to do its magic. I would pick Rima XI or Jasmine et cigarette.
    THanks
