Since 2010, we have had a tradition here at CaFleureBon to have a Hanukkah* scents post, and fortunately, perfumers have been accommodating us with fragrances for this festive holiday. Brent Leonesio of Smell Bent has a Holiday Happening collection for the winter, and one of the new smellies is Lady Dreidel. (last year we featured Smellbent Hansel and Dreidel) I asked to do the Hanukkah post, because I love Brent, and enjoy Hanukkah, even though I am not Jewish.
When I was little, I had several Jewish friends. My greedy little child gut was jealous beyond reason that my friends got to not only open presents, but open presents for eight days straight. What? It made Christmas look downright puny. We learned Hanukkah, O Hanukkah in school, and all that stuff just sounded like so much fun. I wanted to play with a dreidel and eat latkes, whatever they were. Somehow I did acquire chocolate gelt, but never knew it was that until I was an adult. Oh, and the beautiful Menorah!

I’ve always wanted a Menorah. I especially love some of the beautiful little candles you can get for them, that don’t fit into anything else. It wasn’t until relatively recently that I really learned anything about Hanukkah, or what those candles signified, or that it is considered a relatively minor Jewish holiday that had to be elevated to compete with Christmas. I still have Jewish friends, who have me over for latke parties, or who sing Hanukkah, O Hanukkah in Hebrew and English, so the rest of us can join in, and let me come to see the lighting of the candles. My Menorah will find me someday, and I will light the candles, too, and reflect.
Lady Dreidel, despite being fashioned a bit after Lady Gaga, reminds me of the smell of a nice, cuddly bubba who gives you a big hug and a fresh-baked rugelach cookie after baking all day. It is bready, musky, warm, and sweet. It is comforting on a chilly evening, and would blend well with the scents of festivity. The best thing is it doesn't cost a lot of Gelt (money).
Notes: hiba and sandalwood spun with vanilla, chocolate gelt, orris and soft musk
What would Hanukkah be without Adam Sandler’s “A Hanukkah Song?” It has also become a CaFleureBon tradition.
We have a draw for a 5-ml perfume full size oil roll-on of Lady Dreidel for one lucky winner. To be eligible we want you to leave a comment in the spirit of “A Hanukkah Song”. So tell us what Perfume-anukkah (with the –anukkah attached) you will be wearing as you drink your Gin & Ton-akkuh. Draw will close on December 10, 2012.
Hanukkah 2012 begins Saturday night December 8 at sundown and lasts eight days until December 16 this year
We announce the winners only on site and on our Facebook page, so Like Cafleurebon and use our RSS option…or your dream prize will be just spilled perfume.
The Smell Bent Holiday Happening collection is available through February at Smell Bent.

*I know Hanukkah is spelled several ways-Hanukkah, Chanukah, Chanukkah or Chanuka. This is what I picked and I’m sticking to it.
