CaFleureBon Blogathon: Breast Cancer Awareness 10/27/2011 Anya’s Garden Temple + “Raisin In the Sun” Draw For The Cause

Natural disasters,  prejudice , economic  worries and illnesses (both mental and physical) can have devastating effects on our lives and those who love us.

I cannot think of a better poem that expains our ongoing  battles with life, with our dreams  and often with our anger.

What happens to a dream deferred?

Does it dry up
like a raisin in the sun?
Or fester like a sore–
And then run?
Does it stink like rotten meat?
Or crust and sugar over–
like a syrupy sweet?

Maybe it just sags
like a heavy load.

Or does it explode

– Langston Hughes

This poem was the  inspiration behind  A Raisin in the Sun written by Lorraine Hansbury in 1959 and  starred Ruby Dee as Lena Younger (Ruby Dee is a breast cancer survivor and October 27 is her birthday) and Sidney Poitier in both the Broadway and the 1961 film adaptation . Her charachter is a down-to-earth, hard-working black woman who doesn't suffer fools. Mama has dedicated her life to her children and struggles to instill her values in them – with mixed results. (There was a recent Broadway revival that starred Sean Combs and Phylicia  Rashād)

Temple perfume is meant to center and empower people who have been through trauma and have ongoing post-traumatic stress syndrome. The 100% natural perfume was blended for a specific emotional purpose, based on Ancient Ayurvedic and Buddhist fragrance recipes.

Top notes: distilled orange juice, borneol crystals

Middle notes: aglaia flower, Ayurvedic and Buddhist soothing herbs and spices, including cinnamon, clove and warm spices

Base notes: sustainable Laotian and Vietnamese Oud agarwood, earth tincture

The Oud base, rare and precious, is very strong and if it is not to your tastes, just put one drop of the perfume in a small saucer or bowl that contains water. Use warm water, or place the bowl on a radiator or other gentle heat source, and allow the citrusy, spicy fragrance to fill the room.

"I wish you peace and serenity and strength and please accept Temple in the spirit in which it was offered, to reach out to the many who have suffered through years of physical or emotional illnesses, or any trauma that caused you stress and worry. A fragrance can comfort and help us, and that is my intent with Temple.
The rays of hope focus and empower you and the verdant earth beneath the feet gives faith that the path may be sturdy and firm. Find strength in yourself, be your own Temple. Relax, center yourself and find peace. To those afflicted with Breast Cancer, the survivors and their families, may you find your own Temple until there is a cure.

Sincerely,

Anya McCoy, Anya's Garden Perfume

  • Reading that poem transported me back in time, as both the poem and the book were readings from my youth. Let us hope that our dreams come to fruition and that we all find our way in overcoming the “ongoing battles with life”.

Temple sounds like a very grounding blend, perfect for a meditative practice. Please enter me in this draw and thank you!
