CaFleureBon Blog-A-Thon for Breast Cancer Awareness Dawn Spencer Hurwitz “Loving You” 10/21/11+ Draw for the Cause

When asked “ who is your favorite indie perfumer”, chances are Dawn Spencer Hurwitz’s name may be at the top of your list. Dawn is a multi-talented, multimedia “artist” in every sense of the word. When I first started CaFleureBon, Dawn was one of our early supporters. Nothing has changed.

DSH was named perfumer of the year by Ida Meister, "whose nose knows" and was on Mark’s short list of 2010 as well. With few exceptions CaFleureBon has been part of every DSH blogging event and vice versa. We are both dedicated to the fine art of fragrance and  try not to pay much attention to the politics in perfumery that a few bloggers and perfumers seem to want to perpetuate. In such a small 'community', united we stand and divided we fall. Our advice? Get a grip, it’s just perfume. It’s not breast cancer.

Dawn is a certified aromatherapist with over 20 years experience in designing regimens for clients.  We wish those intent on perpetuating negativity in American perfumery would all donate and win DSH's donation to the CafleureBon blog-a-thon for the Libby Ross Foundation. More importantly we hope all our readers donate to a very special gift- a feeling of well being and enjoy good health.

DSH is offering a custom aromatherapy consultation.  She will work directly with the lucky winner to create an aromatherapy regimen (which includes an oil essence – 1/2 oz, a 4 oz organic lotion, a 4.5 oz organic shea butter creme, and a 4 oz organic bath / body / massage oil ). Many times the best relaxation and most profound healing happens through a series of applications of oils that are synergistic and work to create a holistic balance. DSH writes, "I look forward to creating a well rounded regimen for you. (Only aromatherapy grade oils will be used, of course).

The full package is estimated at $500 The donation  is $5.

This Post is about Loving You, if you don't you cannot love others. It's really feeling like Autumn; a time to change. If you are looking for six degrees of separation, this is the one post it's not included in…on purpose.

Editor's Note: This post is in memoriam for Minnie Ripperton who was an American singer-songwriter with a vocal range of five-and-a-half octaves.   In January 1976 Ripperton was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent a radical mastectomy. By the time of diagnosis, the cancer had metastasized and she was given about six months to live. Despite the grim prognosis, she continued recording and touring. Ripperton was one of the first celebrities to go public with her breast cancer diagnosis, but did not disclose that she was terminally ill. In 1977, she became spokesman for the American Cancer Society. In 1978, Ripperton also received the American Cancer Society's Courage Award which was presented to her at the White House by President Jimmy Carter. She died at age 31 on July 12, 1979.

  • I made a $5 donation #VUE7E74600. If I were to win this very very special gift I would like to give it away to my autistic daughter, Leslie. She loves massage and asks to be spritzed with scents everyday. It brings her much joy. Life is difficult for a young autistic girl. But I have found that scents have quite an effect on her. She is a sensory gal. I have been using scent to get her in touch with comfort and being comfotable being touched at all. She has come a long way with it. Just a few months ago if you pet her hair with your hands she may wince in pain and ensue a meltdown but we are working on it. She loves to fall asleep in mommys lap at bedtime. I love it too its the closest I get to her while she is in a calm state and open to affection.
As always thanks very much to Caflurebon and DSH for the opportunity to win this gorgeous and thoughtful set.

  • Dawn is fabulous all the way around, a real sweet person and the power of creating some amazing fragrances. Glad she is part of this event.

  • What a touching post. Everything you do is touched with love Michelyn. And Dawn’s kindness & caring nature is obvious to anyone who has sniffed her lovely creations.

  • Look forward to donating! So wonderful to see the participation 🙂

<3 Minnie Ripperton. Les Fleurs is one of my favorite songs.

  • I am overwhelmed by the amazing generosity by all of the participating perfumers, but this draw is spectacular. To be entered with a chance of winning a customized aromatherapy package of this value from DSH is not only a commentary on putting away politics just by donating to such a cause. Again it’s just a win-win situation for all.
This blogathon is truly spectacular, and all the love that has gone into this from all, Michelyn, perfumers, Libby Ross you are very beautiful people. Thank you for all your efforts to make this possible.

  • I loved Minnie Ripperton . What a tragic loss at age 31.
We need to support the funding for Cancer Research as well as offer funds to help support the people who are effected by this horrific disease
    The key word is” DONATE”.
Michelyn you are doing a great job of spreading the word!

  • I love everything Dawn creates. She is an artist in every sense of the word and her perfumes really speak to me, so of course I want to be entered in this draw. These perfumers have all shown amazing generosity to a very worthy cause.

  • I was very touched by what the first commenter wrote. I happen to work with severely autistic students. Every morning I spray my room with a mix of lavender essential oil and water which is a great way to relax and provide nice sensory input to them. Should I be so lucky as to win this draw I would like to also “gift” it to Feliciag’s daughter, if that is possible. And the generosity of DSH is amazing!

  • Somerville Metro Man says:

I have to give this a try. In this home stretch of a stressful couple of years I would really like to see what kind of fragrant tranquilizer Dawn could create for me.
Bancha is pretty darn close and I have been using it to create a tranquility around me when I need it.

  • I hope I am not late, I just made the donation for Dawn’s set.
I hope at the end of this blog-a-thon, the amount gathered will be significant.

  • Brigitte, you have moved me to tears. Thanks so much for that thoughtful and kind act. And thank you for all that you do working with our kids. Leslie, is a wonderful little girl she sent some art into Cafelurebon and its posted on the page. She has aspergers and is high functioning and I thank God for that everyday. I also thank God for our teachers tss bsc and the list goes on. You are wonderful. Thank you so very very much for your kindness:)))
