CaFleureBon Birthday Countdown Day Seven: JoAnne Bassett and Yael Akalay ‘Natural Woman’ draw

March 14, 2011March 14, 2011

Thank you Yael Akalay of redflower as well as Natural Perfumer and member of The Natural Perfumer's Guild, JoAnne Bassett of JoAnne Basset Perfumes for excelling in their art and gracing our pages this past year, most notablly in Perfumus: Six Visionary Natural Perfumers and six to watch.

Dear CaFleureBon,

Red flower sends wishes for a happy birthday to you on this anniversary of being selected into the top 5 global fragrance blogs!  cafleurebon.com's use of a lovely mix of poetry, history, visual imagery and memories in your unique descriptions of perfumes continues to set you apart!

For your appreciation of "the passion to create that is there in the perfumers behind the scent"  (from Managing Editor, Mark Behnke) we would dedicate to your style of writing founder Yael Alkalay's most personal creation Guaiac Perfume, with its inspiration in the memories of family arrivals from Buenos Aires with their leather suitcases that fill her home with the most wonderful rush of cashmere, leather and maté tea. We too celebrate the art of self expression through perfumes!

So fantastic!  Wishing you a fabulous year ahead.

Very best,

Yael Alkalay and the team at Redflower

Dear Michelyn,

Congratulations for a magnificent first year for CaFleureBon!  I enjoy reading the reviews with the gorgeous pairings of art and fiction. The fragrance I dedicate to the style of your blog is my AMAZING which I created for the Natural Perfumer's Guild Outlaw Internet Project.

Best wishes,

JoAnne Bassett of JoAnne Bassett Perfumes

I would love to be entered in the drawing to have a chance to try the Red Flower Guaiac fragrance. According to Chandler Burr words, it must be a masterpiece.
Joanne Bassett "Amazing" is a charming fragrance, which makes me think of a spring day. It's… "sunny"!
My favorite review about a natural perfume was "Ajne Nectar".

I would love to be entered in the draw for the JoAnne Bassett.  I haven't tried any of her fragrances but I love the Guaiac though it doesn't smell anything like other gaiac perfumes I have.  My favourite article on natural perfumes was the review of Aftelier Candide because it whetted my appetite to such a degree.  It sounds like my ideal perfume.

I've been on a natural perfume kick lately and would love to try either of these.  The Mystery of Musk and Outlaw Perfume projects of the Natural Perfumers' Guild have been really interesting and exciting, and I have read about Joanne Bassett's submissions on the blogs but haven't tried them yet.  Guaiac is certainly one of the best and most well known natural perfumes.
My favorite natural perfume review was Cocoa Tuberose by Providence Perfume Company.  That is one gorgeous, decadent fragrance and Ida's review was pure poetry.

Aretha Franklin!!!!! What  a voice…and the birthday fun continues. Love natural perfumes. I am definitely loving them in my collection 🙂

I tried JoAnne Bassett Rich leather. Gorgeous chypre – leather. I must try "Amazing". the composition sounds very tempting.
I have never tried Red flower's fragrances but I know Guaiac has great reviews. I would love getting it.
I enjoyed Cocoa Tuberose review too much …  Indolice and Cocoa are going to be my next purchase.

How wonderful to showcase these two talented natural perfumers.  I've not had the pleasure yet of sampling Yael's fragrances, but I am well-acquainted with the French style and beautiful aesthetics of JoAnne's works, and who ever wins with be very, very lucky indeed.

    Sandi says:

Favorite article on Natural Perfumery all of them.. They get natural perfumers out there and noticed. But I did love Queen of Green on Mandy. She was and is the inspiration for all natural perfumers. Happen to have a first edition of her book 😉 JoAnne is another that inspires. Her work in both of  the Natural Perfume projects have been amazing…. Must admit that I have not sampled any of the redflower creations but now I am sparked to try Guaiac (Chandler's comments have a tendency to do that). Count down continues.. Congratulations Team @ CaFleureBon……;-)

Love this site; I have several Red Flower candles and Guiac sounds intriguing.  My favorite article was the recent one about six visionaries – am most impressed with Mandy Aftel and Ajne.  Thanks for offering the nice products through a drawing!

So, I would love to win of these perfumes.  Are you really, really seriously planning on having the draw though?  Seeing as the Providence Perfume draw never happened and all.

I love RedFlower's Champa, but haven't tried Guaiac yet.  And I'm currently awaiting the arrival of Some Joanne Bassett samples.  I love all the interviews, and really liked the one with Redflower's founder. I also like anything about DSH, as I seem to love almost all of her perfumes I've tried.

    LauraMatheson says:

My favorite article would have to be the Queen of Green interview with Mandy Aftel.  After reading her book, Essence and Alchemy, which I refer to on a daily basis, I ordered her samples and fell in love with them instantly.  I've been interested in Natural Perfumery for almost a year now and I have bookmarked many natural/botanical websites including Red Flower and JoAnne Bassett which are next on my hit list!  I would be delighted to be entered into this draw!

Six Visionary Natural Perfumers- I am intrigued and plan to buy one of these scents…It's funny: I thought I knew so much about perfume until I found Cafleurebon- now a whole new world of fragrance has opened up for me! Redflower sounds delicious- and their scents are right up my alley- exotic, spicy, musky…likewise JoAnne Bassett's line…I must own Sensual Embrace…!

  • March 15, 2011 at 8:46 am
    Isabelle says:

Bravo! Long life to both of you and your fabulous perfume journey!

    Tiara says:

JoAnne Bassett has one of the pretties bottles I've seen lately!  Her Reflections bottle is stunning and the juice inside promises to be as well.  I have to admit I am not familiar with redflower so took a moment to visit the site and learn a bit about Yael and her scents. While at the site, I discovered her grandfather was Bulgaria's first dermatologist!

The video with Mandy Aftel, which was part of the Second Act series by Yahoo, gets my nod for favorite "article" about natural perfume. It was nice her explain what led her to creating perfume. Bonus was getting Michelyn in the interview as well!

Here's hoping that some day we'll find naturals in stores so we can sample them and not just dream about how they smell!

    Warum says:

I would like to enter the draw for JoAnne Basset's Amazing if I have to specify.  If I don't, trying either one of them would be a treat.
I am intrigued by JoAnne's concept of the perfumes for the royalty, and perhaps will be getting a sample pack of those some time (and sharing with my SIL who became interested in natural perfumery since she had her first baby).
I applaud the effort of the red flower to go organic and am grateful to Cafleurebon for pointing me out to natural perfumers I didn't know about (and didn't try any of their fragrances either).
My favorite article about natural perfumery? The one from Nov 16 2010 on the outlaws.  Great article, great pictures, great perfumes… and a great line about outlaws touching ladies!  A new take on that one with outlaw perfumes, that's for sure!
My favorite interview with a member of natural perfumers guild? Why, that's easy.  That interview with Dawn Spencer Hurwitz that brought me here.
    Thanks for the draw!
