Baruti Indigo (Spyros Drosopoulos) 2015~ Perfume Review + Into the Blue Draw

Dr. Spyros Drosopoulos,  Perfumer for Baruti

Delving into new creations often yields something so definitive as to be considered the Signature of the House.  Dr. Spyros Drosopoulos of Baruti, is one who by choice of direction in Life, creates fragrances that will become touchstones of the Artistic Legacy of Perfumery. I mention here No Oud, Voyance, Chai, and Dama Koupa.

And then there is Indigo extrait de parfum  which which plunges me deep into the blue.

‘I read once Claude Elena describing his perfumes like aquarels water paint, then mine are like Escher (making oil on canvas).’ – Spyros Drosopoulos. A palette, a building of the layers upon the canvas of the flesh, Indigo is a fragrance of Freedom and Liberation.

Morning Sun Edward Hopper 1952

Those moments or places that give us sense of Freedom, in these busiest of Ages, when the tranquility of ‘free time’ often eludes us, this fragrance is the key to the door. Wear me on your flesh, let us see where we can go. A place of solitude where mind and body can retire from confusion and conflict; a sanctuary of clarity and harmony

I am enticed, an effusive floral, Rose and Hyacinth, Mastic Oil to carry me over the threshold; the  sublime dustiness to the Rose, that embodies the undisturbed airs of entering another room, shuttered away for the long passing of Time. The kind of sense I always had of going into the ‘Drawing Room’ of my Grandmother's house as a child, that special cloistered place only reserved for occasions of note, where I felt privileged to enter.

Hyacinth, ethereal, a touch of layers of Memory, the Winters in England and the Hyacinth bulbs grown to bring the touch of Spring. Their fragrance filled the house and was intoxicating. Mastic, startles me with its clear and bright illumination,  gifted when we step into where we feel most ‘at home’, a realm of ease.  A fragrance sanctifies this union of skin and scent.

David Ayers©

Deeper reaches of Indigo, Sandalwood, Frankincense, and Amber envelop, giving a warm and sensual note, delivering a surrounding expansiveness that allows full surrender. Giving a rise to the very feeling of being underwater where the din of the world is dulled and we are protected

Notes: Mastic Oil (Chios), Hyacinth, Rose (Greece), Frankincense (Oman), Cedar (Atlas), Sandalwood, No- Oud, Amber.

I wish to thank Spyros Drosopoulos, Baruti, Amsterdam for Samples and his infinite patience.

Opinions and Nose my own.

  • Yes! Indigo would definitely be one of my choices! I would also choose Dma Koupa, Berlin in Winter, Chai and Nooud.

What an interesting selection of perfumes. I am happy to have been introduced to their line through your review. I have several on my wishlist and will follow them on social media.

    I live in Pennsylvania.

  • I am fortunate to have met Spyros and he is gracious and very willing to share his experiences with his line and scents. To be able to find a place to retire from the noise of our society is certainly appealing. At this point in my life, my home with no electronic devices running is calm. I would choose Indigo, Dama Koupa, Chai, Nooud and Berlin in Winter.

  • I have never tried any Baruti fragrances but they look so good, that bottle and also the box are amazing. In autumn and winter i usually go on the beach for a walk to enjoy the silence and listen only to the sea waves and the cold wind. I would like to try that Indigo in 1st place then chai and nooud. I live in the EU, thanks for the draw.

  • fazalcheema says:

Indigo seems quite different from Baruti’s other creations, focusing on aquatic elements. I have tried Baruti Chai which reminds one of spicy chai from India. I would choose Indigo, Dama Koupa, Nooud and Berlin in Winter. I am in US.

  • Elizabeth T. says:

This sounds like a one-of-a-kind experience. Thank you for introducing us to Indigo! I read to escape the busyness and non-stop input of the day. I have not tried any of Baruti’s creations, but would love to try (Indigo of course!) Dama Koupa, Berlin im Winter, Chai, and Melkmeisje. I’m in the USA. Thank you for the draw!

I take long evening walks to escape the din of the metropolis. I would like to try Chai, Dma Koupa, Berlin in Winter, and Nooud and of course, Indigo.
Danu review of Indigo is like swimming in a dream

  • I adore the way Danu describes scents, especially how he has captured Indigo Extrait de Parfum as a scent of solitude. As someone that often gets caught up in the stress and strain of work and family life, I often like to switch off by reading a good book or binge watching a TV series. I also love to wear a soothing scent like Donna Karan’s Cashmere Mist or Kenzo’s L’eau par Kenzo Eau Indigo when I am starting to feel overwhelmed.

In addition to testing Indigo, I would also love to sample, Tindrer, Dama Koupa, Berlin In Winter and Voyance.

    I live in Melbourne, Australia.

  • I used to love Indigo in its previous Magnetic Scents incarnation but haven’t had the chance to get acquainted with the current one. Sanctuary is a word that springs to mind indeed, a colleague of mine once told me I smelled like an ancient Egyptian priest wearing this. Best compliment ever!
I live in London and would love Indigo, Indigo RMX, Chai, Dama Koupa and Tindrer. Thanks and happy holidays to all!

  • Mastic…”The fragrance that pleases the Gods. ”
The sounds and smells of the sea will always soothe my soul, whatever the time of the year.
My choices – Indigo – Voyance – Winter in Berlin – Tindrer – Chai
Would dearly love to sample Order de Linde…alas out stock
    Adelaide, Australia

  • I love mysterious perfumes and this house seems to deliver on that.
Loved the review, very well written.

In addition to testing Indigo, I would also love to sample Tindrer, Dama Koupa, Berlin In Winter and Onder de linde.

    In USA.

  • Chocolate Marzipan says:

I love Danu’s vivid description of this perfume and also love that it contains hyacinth and mastic.
I escape the noise of the world on my yoga mat…my daily sanctuary.
I would love Indigo, Berlin im Winter, Dama Koupa, Melkmeisje and Tindrer.
    I reside in the USA.

  • I have never heard of Baruti fragrances before, this is very nice introduction. I really like the description of the notes, its structure and its magic properties: “A place of solitude where mind and body can retire from confusion and conflict; a sanctuary of clarity and harmony”. My skin likes more dense scents, so i think the perfumes with mastic oil (that makes those scents like oil paintings) are created for me.
It is hard to escape the noise of the contemporary world (especially the mental noise and information junk), of course the best way is to escape in nature. And also I like to escape into magic world of scents (especially naturals).
Baruti scents I would like to try: Berlin Im Winter, Tindrer, Indigo, Dama Kuopa, Chai.
    Thank you!!!

  • Thanks for nice review. i realy enjoyed it, especially I liked this phrase: “Giving a rise to the very feeling of being underwater where the din of the world is dulled and we are protected”- so nice and impressive!!!!
I have never tried any Baruti fragrances, but have read some good, interesting reviews.
i agree with previous commentator- best way is to escape in nature!!!

  • Indigo Extrait de Parfum appeals to me because it is described as a fragrance that plunges you into the deep blue. I’ve never really tried perfumes that are ‘blue’. Most are my perfumes are on the warmer spectrum like orange.

I escape the noise of the world by binging on tv series.

I would like to try Indigo, Berlin im Winter, Voyance, Chai, and Dama Koupa.

    I live in Malaysia.

  • There is something about the peacefulness of this scent and of the color Indigo. I escape the noise of the world through music. To some that is more noise, but it can soothe the soul. I also read. I’d like Indigo, Berlin im Winter, Chai,, Voyance, and Nooud. Thanks for the draw. Im in the USA

  • I loved the water imagery of this review! I felt as though I was floating into the deep. My escape (and in this political climate I feel like I need to escape more than ever) is to curl up with a novel! Baruti is a recent discovery (I sampled several when I was at Bloom Perfumery in London), and I’m so impressed with this house. My sample choices would be Indigo, Berlin im Winter, Dama Koupa, Tindrer, and Onder de Linde. Thanks for the draw, and I live in the US!

  • Thanks for this great review. Makes you think of a place surrounded by water. Haven’t heard of this House. Would like to try Indigo, Berlin im Winter, chai and no Oud. Great to receive samples. I’ll like to usually be with nature and try to clear my thoughts while remembering The Creator of All to escape the worldly life for a moment. Thanks

I love seeing one of my favorite paintings of all time–“Morning Sun–here in this review. This payin

  • doveskylark says:

Sorry–let me continue. This painting certainly captures the feeling of free time. I love that a perfume can open a door to this freedom of letting time pass without stress or worry. I escape stress just like the woman on the bed of Hopper’s painting: I look at light and the sky while reclining on my bed.
I’d choose Indigo, Berlin im Winter, Nooud, Onder de Linder, and Voyance.
    I live in the USA.

  • Great review and thanks for the giveaway. I am particularly interested in Indigo because the way these elusive florals of dusty rose and ethereal hyacinth are described… I love both of these and especially if they are treated in a more unusual way.

I escape the noise of the world by snuggling on the couch with my dog… there’s something about their innocence that makes you forget just for a moment about everything that’s going on haha.

I’m from Sydney, Australia and the five fragrances I’d love to try and Indigo, Chai, Tindrer, Berlin im Winter and Voyance.

  • This sounds absolutely wonderful! I love mastic, resins, amber, balsam or anything like that. Add in that hyacinth and sandalwood and I am sold!

I escape the noise of the world by sewing and/or listening to audiobooks. I like to be in my little sewing cave making things!

I am from Melbourne, Australia and would be so happy to win this draw. What I would like to try are: Indigo, Chai, Onder de Linde, Tindrer and Voyance. Thank you!

  • VerbenaLuvvr says:

Life can be so hectic, being cocooned in peace and memory would be a great escape, so Indigo it seems is meant to encourage this state. Sometimes when life is too much, we go to the country–where there is no cell phone service and only the birds and wind in the trees for noise. Indigo, Berlin Im Winter, Chai, Dama Koupa, and Onder de Linde appeal most to me. I live in the US.

  • The unusual list of notes, including hyacinth, frankincense and amber make me curious. I like the idea of diving deeply in to the water via scent. My place of solitude is walking my dog down a wooded path each day. A sort of forest bathing for me, escaping the world with my girl for an hour. I am unfamiliar with this brand but these are the other samples that grabbed my curiosity: Dame Koupa, Voyance, Chai and Berline in Winter. thank you for the info and draw.

  • Based on Danu’s Review, Indigo Extrait de Parfum sounds amazing. “A palette, a building of the layers upon the canvas of the flesh, Indigo is a fragrance of Freedom and Liberation.” I escape the noise of the world with a great book. I live in the US and would like Chai, Dama Koupa, Indigo, Nooud and Voyance.
