A*MEN ULTRA ZEST (Quentin Bisch and Jacques Huclier) 2015 ~Fragrance Review + Late Summer Sunshine Draw

MUGLER A* Men series of fragrances are very popular with men (and women). Although they are "flankers", each stands on their own and are excellent examples of the brand's consistency over the years.

Jacques Huclier and Quentin Bisch

Perfumer Jacques Huclier created the first A*Men in 1996. Fast forward nearly a decade later and one of my favorite young perfumers Quentin Bisch (he was also the nose for Angel Muse and is 34 years old!) collaborated on Ultra Zest in 2015, a spicy citrus fragrance shot with ginger. Notes of coffee, patchouli and black pepper are the perfect foil for the juicy blood orange and mandarin, giving Ultra Zest enough heft for late summer into fall.

  • I’m a big fan of orange notes. Plus, since Sebastian considered this unique and in his top 5 of Mugler, I’d love to try it.
I’ve tried Amen, Pure Havane, Ice Men, and I think I’ve sampled a couple of others

  • Patchouli and coffee are KING! An interesting combo of freshness with the Mugler DNA… Sebastian did it again as always! I did try this fragrance a while back and thought it was great. I have not tried Kryptomint as of yet , but I;m sure a minty Mugler fragrance would be nice. And I hope this drawing hasn’t close as of Feb.28th.. I do live in the US and Please count me in to the drawing! THANKS

  • What I liked most about Sebastian’s review is his enthusiasm for the Mugler house and his take on Ultra Zest. His review inspires me to explore this house and maybe even more designer houses. Which I’ve neglected for years. The original A*Men is my favorite from Mugler. I’m in the US. Thanks!

  • Dhruba Dasgupta says:

That fact that Sebastian likened it to kryptomint but with citruses and it being less chunky was a nice thing to know!

  • Tom Schroeder says:

Thank you for the great description of the notes and how Ultra Zest unfolds, Sebastian. I easily followed along every step of the way in your description, owning Pure Havane, Pure Malt, and Pure Wood. They are all wonderful to wear on different days, depending on my mood. Intend to acquire Ultra Zest and Angel Muse soon. Kryptomint has been piquing my interest, but based on your video review, it may be that the mint in Ultra Zest is enough to satisfy me, for a while at least. (San Jose, California, US)

  • Jerriel L Dudley says:

I love mugler fragrances and i never tried ultra zest ive heard good things about this one and it would pleasure to win this fragrance

  • I like this review for the same reasons I have liked all his other reviews, consistent, good quality, good production and good information.. He has a sharp nose.. I enjoy the A*men line .. If I had to pick a favorite I think the original would be my pick.. But in all honesty I enjoy them all.. Pure leather, pure malt, pure coffee.. ultra zest.. I even liked icemen.. Hope I win this one!

    Cheers

It is not common for flankers to top the original but it seems Sebastian is a bigger of Ultra Zest than original Amen which is a masterpiece, too. His review also makes it seem like this is one of the few Amen that may work in summer, thanks to the orange note. My favorite in the series is Pure Havane but there are 2-3 I have not tried including Ultra Zest. I am in the US.

  • I like that sebastian doesnt focus on the common comparison to creamsicle, which always sounded sickly sweet for me. Glad he mentioned the spice and ginger aspects, which does add much complexity to the scent. I have pure malt only as that note is so special and intoxicating. Pure havane is good as well but I have others that are similar so no need for that one. I would love to have ultrazest. Thanks guys!

I love fruity fragrance and this seems to be an interesting twist from the Mugler house. I’ve seen alot of good review about Ultra Zest for the past year and it has been on my to buy list since then. Sebastian always provides detailed reviews and he has definitely peaked my interest in this one. Great review!!

  • Thanks to Sebastian for the review as usual. He looks happier when reviewing Mugler`s house products.
From the house I like Mugler Cologne and Pure Havane.
Thanks to Cafleurebon and the Clarins Group for the opportunity. I live in the USA.

  • I’m a big fan of the Mugler line I enjoy Sebastian’s Reviews because there quick and very detailed and one favorite Fragrances is the original AMEN

  • Sebastian is detailed and generous in his reviews and giveaways. Mugler Pure line is definitely great with that patchouli coffee vanilla backbone, and Mugler cologne is a treat! Thanks Cafleurebon and Clarins group. Cheers from Texas, USA

  • About time Sebastian reviewed this one! So bummed it’s discontinued, but hopefully I can win this one! Cheers!

  • Mack Elwood says:

Another great review. I only have one of the flankers, Pure Havane, and love it. This is one I’ve been really wanting to try. I love orange notes, for sure, and the A*Man DNA, so I’ve wondered how well the two would mix.

  • I’m a huge fan of Mugler scents – of both Angel and A*Men lines and flankers. My favorite from the A*Men flankers is Pure Havane and I love to wear it in the summertime. You can’t go wrong with its honey, vanilla, and cigar tobacco. And of course I always love Sebastian‘s videos… he always has a way of helping you imagine what a fragrance is actually like, and this one seems really unique in the A*Men lineup with its citrus twist. I haven’t tried Ultra Zest yet, but have heard lots of discussions on it. I love in the U.S. Thanks!

  • I haven’t tried ultrazest yet, but hopefully i can try this some time soon. Pure malt and pure havane are sinply beautiful fragrances, from the reviews, ultrazest adds a nice orangey opening and would be excellent for summer/spring use

  • I love Sebastian’s honest take on fragrances. I always enjoy how well he is able describe the different notes. I’ve never tried any of the Thierry Mugler fragrances but would love to entered into the giveaway. Thanks!

  • As a Thierry Mugler fanl I love all the Flankers but not a fan of the original Amen and as well own most of them except Pure coffee or this one Ultra Zest

  • I thought Sebastian’s review of Amen Ultra Zest was amazing. He really influenced me to want a bottle of Ultra Zest for myself, and to come to this website and enter this drawing. By the way Amen Pure Malt has been one of my favorites for a few years now.

  • I am a huge fan of Pure Malt. I have also owned Pure Wood, but not a fan. Ultra Zest is very interesting.

  • Nick rosenbeck says:

I love that he didn’t hate on Mugler for continuing the Angel men line. It seems most youtube reviewers express some dislike of the continuing flankers that are being released by the house. I bought angel men as my first fragrance when I was 15 and have been in love with the DNA ever since. To date my favorite flanker is a toss up between pure coffee and ultra zest, but both are incredible.

  • I have a couple of thierry mugler colognes in my collection but have not try Ultra Zest yet heard good things about it. I enjoyed Sebastian’s reviews because there’s always something new and profession

  • Sebastian is always very informative and has a laid back vibe that really comes across in his video reviews. I respect his take on fragrances and enjoy hearing what he has to say. So far, the original A*Men and also Pure Malt are my 2 favorite from Mugler. But I have a feeling Ultra Zest might have the ability to beat out both for my top spot. We’ll see if that happens if I could get my nose on a sample of Ultra Zest.

  • I love the Pure Coffee from this flanker line. So I love the idea this Ultra Zest lists coffee as a note. 🙂 US

  • Thank you Sebastian and others for this giveaway
Haven’t tried anything from Mugler fragrances
Heard good about this one. Orange cream
Sounds good. Hopefully I can try
    Peace

  • Spencer Johnson says:

I love this fragrance and this house! I still don’t have this one and have been wanting to add it

  • I enjoyed Sebastián’s review because we share a fondness of the mugler line (my favorite being pure havane). Would love to win a bottle of Ultra zest!

  • I am familiar with ultra Zest and my favorite from the line is kryptomint from Thierry mugler. What liked the about the video is the break down of when you can wear the fragrance and the notes

  • William kenimer says:

I thought the reciew was pleasant as always..almost makes you smell the fragrance in the air just from the description!!..ultra zest seems like it would be a very pleasing snd relaxibg scent.

  • Great review. Would love to try ultra zest as I have viewed sonnsny good reviews of this flanker

  • Samuel Kusi says:

This is one of the best flankers. I need this for winter days when its cold and dreary. Mugler is my favorite designer.

  • Thanks, Sebastian, for a great review. I have always wondered how the citrus notes would work, too, and I trust you when it say it does. I have always appreciated Mugler scents, but I find them somewhat difficult to work into my rotation as they are such powerhouse scents. The versatility of this sounds great and I would love to share this bottle with my husband!

  • Great video review and I missed out on UltraZest and really like that it is citrus but can be worn when it’s colder. I didn’t know Quentin Bisch was involved either since I have a bottle of Muse and think it’s a good vetiver frag
Thank you to Clarins and Cafleurebon for a great draw
Sebastian says it’s his favorite so it’s sure to be mine too

  • Hikmat Sher Afridi says:

Thanks for the article & review! Frankly I am not into citrusy, minty, zesty or orange flavor fragrances. Last year in July I was visiting my colleague who came from Canada. He was wearing a zesty fragrance and on my inquiry he told me it is Ultra Zest. The smell was so beautiful & overwhelmed me. He realized & offered me as a gift but I refused. However since then it is on my wishlist. Yes, Mugler sometimes create wonderful fragrances & this is one among the other flankers.
Thanks to Clarins Group for the generosity and CafleureBon for the opportunity by letting my relative address in US..

  • I always enjoy Sebastian’s reviews!

I’ve always been a fan of Mugler fragrances; my favorite being the original Cologne. My boyfriend is very particular about his fragrances so I never explored the A*Men line for him. But 6 months ago, I decided to surprise him with the original A*Men, and to his surprise, he absolutely loved it. He travels a lot and always gets compliments on the scent from total strangers! I remember smelling Ultra Zest when it first came out and I thought it smelled amazing on me, but never bought it. I’d love to win this so both my boyfriend and I can share it.

    I live in the USA

  • I love Sebastian Reviews! I always feel that I am so much more knowledgeable after the video. Now I have a good idea what to. It for my husband:)

  • Sebastian’s review is his enthusiasm for the Mugler house and his take on Ultra Zest. His review inspires me to explore this house and maybe even more designer houses.

    In USA.

  • Timothy Cormier says:

Thank you for a great giveaway. I love Sebastians review for his insight into the fragrance. I also really appreciate his love for the Mugler house.

  • Love to watch Sebastian. I was surprised at his enthusiasm for this flanker. I also thought citrus wouldn’t work well with the A*men DNA. I didn’t realize there were so many flankers. When I saw Quentin Bisch’s name on the screen I got more enthused. He did a great job on Angel Muse. I like Pure Havane. The orange bottle looks quite cheery. Thanks for the draw. I live in the US.

  • I like Amen from Mugler and also Citrus fragrances, so I would like to try this one. I’m sure I’ll fall in love

  • ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZest yes yes yes, the blood orange opening is to die for. Love it. I love how Sebastian describes the spice and coffee. Amazing. I have sampled and it is very much on my list to add. I remember the original A*men from ages ago and savored a bottle for years when the mood hit me. Hopefully I can soon add this to my favorites. In the USA.

  • So, Sebastian’s reviews are the most professional perfume reviews in the net (known for me), so this one keeps the highest Sebastian’s standards. I don’t know this flanker, but I have and like very much Pure Malt from A*MAN series.

  • I’m apprehensive about the amen line including Citrus notes. However Sebastian stated that it works well. So now I’m interested. Right now I’m enjoying Pure Havane

  • Thanks for writing with my favorite cologne. I have been using these last six months. This is one of the best smelling cologne. Its price is less but the quality is good.
