BREAKING NEWS! A Different Path for Bertrand Duchaufour: Fragrance News

In an email to me this morning  Bertrand Duchaufour( my choice for Perfumer of the Year in both 2009 and 2010) confirmed that he will be taking on the position as the inhouse perfumer of The Different Company. M. Duchaufour replaces Perfumer Celine Ellena, the daughter of Jean Claude Ellena (who started the Company and left to join Hermes as inhouse perfumer  In 2004).

As always we will follow his every accord and wish him luck. Stay tuned for an indepth interview.

    When Bertrand mentioned wanting to do a steamed rice and black ink fragrance I couldn't see that being an easy fit for either L'Artisan or Penhaligon's portfolios.

    I do see it being easily part of The Different Company portfolio.

    I wonder if we'll see his first TDC fragrance before the end of the year.

    Duchaufour is one of my favourite perfumers as well. Moving around different brands, like L'Artisan, Penhaligon's, Frapin, Eau d'Italie, has made for some very different and wonderful perfumes. I hope he continue to produce such beauty and innovation at The Different Company.

    You know what this means….yep, soon to be more TDCs in my collection!  Can't wait to see what his talented nostrils are working on for us now….

    Is he also still "in house perfumer" for Penhaligon's and L'Artisan?
     
    I very much like a lot of his work, but it's feeling like monoculture.

    What happened to Celine Ellena?
    I`m surprised with this news. Olivia Giacobetti seems to me a logical option to be the perfumer of the brand, considering the minimalistic style of the frags. Is Different Company changing the direction of their frags from now?

    Henrique Brito, Joe, Ida all will be revealed in my upcoming interview. I had hints before but chose not to publish. my understanding is that he will leave L’Artisan and Penhaligon at the end of the year. think jean Claude Ellena, in house is inhouse

    TDC must really be planning to ramp up production and market share; this is a bold move.

    I will be disappointed if Duchaufour leaves L'Artisan. That is a marriage made in heaven, in my opinion! And while I will eagerly welcome his creations for TDC, I have really enjoyed Celine Ellena's work for them. I wonder what she will do next?

    Mr Duchaufour is one of my favorite noses; I can't wait to see what he will get up to at TDC.
