Before we watch Steven’s video, I asked Will Southard, the perfumer and founder of Third Eye Fragrance Co, about the creative process for Flamango, which as Steven notes, is very popular on social media and is constantly sold out. –Michelyn

Born and raised in Florida, I’ve always wanted to create a love letter to home. My goal was to capture as many facets as possible. The opening is a bright, simultaneously tart and sweet, multi-faceted citrus profile, as the entire state is known for many varieties. South Florida brings fun, exotic, and playful energy so a touch of green and fresh mango represents the Miami atmosphere. Growing up on and around the water, the entire scent has a thread of fresh salty ocean air that dries down into a woody, slightly mossy marine base reminiscent of the lush Everglades and sun-soaked boat docks. – Will Southard, perfumer and founder

    I love that Stephen said this is a mood enhancer. Citrus fragrances always lift my spirits. This one with a strong pink grapefruit note sound fantastic. And I always love when a perfumer creates a fragrance to honor where they grew up. Can’t wait to smell this one!

    I enjoy the fact that he mentions how great this would be for citrus lovers. While i am not a fanatic for citrus, I am coming around to it. Probably due to my current location. I live near Florida where at least 9 months of the year ia basically summer. My love for warm and spicy scents has to make way for other appropriate fragrances. Would be awesome to start adding this type to my rotation.

    Ooh I’ve been curious about this one. I actually bought his Moon Lotus and really enjoyed it. The natural blue lotus in it is such a treasure. And the jasmines! I’ve heard really great reviews about this one too. I love the idea of salty air running through it as Will said. And Steven saying it’s for citrus lovers, that’s me! Sign me up! I’m in the U.S.

    What I enjoyed about Will’s introduction is how vividly it feels like memory bottled into scent. There’s such a strong sense of place and intention. It feels like sunlight, warmth, and movement all wrapped into something deeply personal. Steven on the other hand vividly brought Flamingo to life, especially that sparkling grapefruit and ginger opening.     Never been to florida but based on Will’s description this sounds like he got the vibe spot on. Steven really drives home the citrus bomb that this scent is. Mango is also my favorite fruit profile in fragrances, plus the sandalwood bringing this all together sounds like a great summer scent.

    Third Eye Fragrances is also a great name.

    Everything from this brand is amazing. The discovery kit is well worth picking up. Iris obsidian is my personal favorite, with flamingo a close second. Redrum is a stunning date night fragrance, and moon Lotus is a unique floral. I’m down to my last sample of flamingo, and would love to have a full bottle. It is the perfect Summer sent

    Creating a long lasting citrus is certainly a feat! Big fan of outstanding pink grapefruit notes and it sounds like this one has it in spades. Superb for summer mornings. Moreover, I’m happy that Steven went over the little details in the presentation because those touches are often overlooked. Seems like Earl’s artwork nailed the vibe, and I just love bottles with sturdy metal plaques on the front. Incidentally, I only just learned that grapefruits are just as abundant in Florida as oranges, so Will’s inspiration is absolutely genuine. 😀 I too grew up around the water, so we have that in common. Always nice to have a fragrance around that reminds us of home – something both tart and sweet to capture the spectrum of experiences. Appreciate Will and Steven both sharing! From Canada.

    Flamengo seems like a beautiful fresh citrusy for the summer which we’re in the middle of. I was not aware of the vitality of this fragrance but being the citrus it is and going through the heat wave we are in right now it’s a no brainer everyone wants to get their hands on one of these bottles. I love a good citrus scent in the summer to stay active like Steven said but also because they provide a much refreshing touch needed. Sounds like Flamengo is the star this summer and we’re all dying to get our hands on it. I see where Will also got the inspiration being born and raised in Florida, it only made sense to create a scent perfect to wear in the high heat. I’ located in the USA (NJ).

    Thanks for the opportunity. Steven’s video review makes Flamango seem like a perfect addition to the summer rotation! The citrus bomb makes me think of Orange Bird. I find myself in Florida a few times a year and I’m interested in a light, wearable fragance that doesn’t overwhelm in the hot humid climate. From California, USA. (and sometimes in Florida!)

    Again I love a geography briefed fragrance. Will makes his love for Florida clear and I’d love to see more state based frags in general.     I love how Will captured Florida here: the citrus orchards, Miami in all its glory, and boats docked on the Everglades. Flamingo has a wonderful sense of place, balanced with interesting textures like the “bright, simultaneously tart and sweet, multi-faceted citrus” and the combination of salty air and marine moss. Steven said the sparkling pink grapefruit leads the show here and the neroli is more subtle, while the ginger is doing a lot of work too, making the opening bright and refreshing. Interesting that he described the sea salt aspect of this fragrance as something a sporty, “on the go” person might wear, since that’s a different (but nice) vibe than whimsical summer fruit.     Definitely a fan of citrus here, but smoothness of sandalwood and neroli with just the aesthetic of orange and white, with the hint of saltiness on top of that. It reads less like a note pyramid and more like a memory with coordinates.
    Steven’s framing of Flamango as a mood enhancer rather than just another summer citrus was the part that landed for me. Calling it a “luxury spa in summertime” captures that rare intersection where a scent is energizing and clean but still relaxing, and I appreciated him flagging the longevity, since that’s usually where citrus compositions fall apart. The attention he gave to Earl Funk’s artwork was a nice touch too.

    Honestly, I’ve never been to Florida, but I feel like Will painted a great picture in his description of the creative process for Flamango. Reading about how the fun, exotic vibes of South Florida inspired the fragrance really made me excited to get my nose on this one. Steven’s video only made me more excited, as I love bright, citrus fragrances in the summer, and his mention of the ginger coming through sealed the deal. Possibly even more exciting is his description of the performance! It’s so rare for citrus fragrances to last, so it sounds like Flamango really has the potential to be one of the all time greats in the summer fragrance conversation. Can’t wait to try it!     I like the idea of ”writing” a love letter to home. Will’s introduction made me interested in learning more about this perfume. ”There is a certain freshness to this fragrance that is so agreeable so likeable so easy to fall in love with”. Steven said that past halftime of the video. By that time I had already fell in love with Flamango from Steven’s description. I love citrus too especially a long time lasting citrus fragrance in a hot summer day. I also love the engineering part of the bottle more precisely the fact that it has a pressurized atomizer.

    Love citrus and mango notes but like Steven mentioned usually the citrus fades rather quickly. Glad to know that third eye was able to get it to last. I’ve always worn fragrance and over the last 3 years I have taken a much deeper appreciation for smaller brands who are making scents with a meaningful purpose instead of pushing out generic profit makers. Love the fact that they crafting what they love and things that resonate to them! Using real artwork is another big one. In the day and age we live now they could have easily used AI to create illustrations and chose not to, very impressive. Can’t wait to try this brand out.
