DSH Perfumes en Fleur 2026 (Dawn Spencer Hurwitz) + Undiluted Joy Giveaway

 DSH Perfumes En Fleur

DSH Perfumes en Fleur

Beauty is not a need but an ecstasy.

It is not a mouth thirsting nor an empty

hand stretched forth,

But rather a heart enflamed and a soul enchanted. ~ excerpt from Khalil Gibran’s The Prophet, On Beauty

I often think of poetry in relation to perfume – much as I do color, form, cadence, and lyricism. When it comes to Art and Olfaction award winning artisanal perfumer Dawn Spencer Hurwitz the poet Khalil Gibran springs to mind more frequently than most. Something inherently mystical and passionate conjures her artistic voice for me. Dawn is too multi-faceted to be reduced to verse, yet this association remains vivid and insistent. As she reimagines her 2001 creation, the DSH Perfumes en Fleur of today – paradisaical beauty feels paramount. One might erroneously dismiss it as yet one more tropical-themed fragrance inspired by Hawaii’s natural splendor; it’s more than that. en Fleur is an exotic garland that regales both the spirit and the senses in such a manner that it becomes challenging to disentangle the two.

 Frangipani Perfumes

Plumeria, aka frangipani – is a highly fragrant flowering shrub which has been said to embody the spirit of Aloha: the heart and soul of Hawaiian culture. It flourishes in tropical locales. Aloha values hospitality, love, kindness and respect as essential to what it fundamentally means to be Hawaiian. For South Pacific Islanders, plumeria has positive connotations: because its blossoms bloom on bare branches, it is a strong symbol of new life, spring, and rejuvenation. Leis of plumeria are given to welcome guests; if a woman wears a flower behind her left ear, she is spoken for – and one placed behind her right ear indicates that she is available. To Buddhists, plumeria symbolize immortality; in Hindu rituals they are incorporated in deity worship. Plumeria’s five-petaled form represents the attributes of love, faith, charity, hope, and devotion – and the ability to bridge the earthly and spiritual realms.

This waxy, honeyed floral is associated in other cultures with negative attributes: for the Bangladeshi, frangipani connotes death and funerals; in Malaysian folklore, the flower is connected with fierce and vengeful female vampires known as the Pontianuk. In Vietnamese culture, they are thought to possess healing powers. It’s fascinating how cultural perceptions differ regarding this heady, intoxicating flower.

We needn’t concern ourselves with the darker interpretations when we experience DSH Perfumes en Fleur, because it is undiluted joy in a flacon. I challenge you to feel morose upon its application; don’t take my word for it. Try it for yourself. en Fleur bursts with optimism and enthusiasm; it’s irrepressible. A zesty lemon and bergamot introduction paves the way for a corona of solar, narcotic florals in hues of cream and yellow: frangipani, gardenia, tiare, grandiflorum and sambac jasmine; gardenia, tuberose, ylang-ylang. These provide en Fleur with an intense floralcy which is only slightly indolic in character, rendering it more comfortable for those who aren’t fond of the animalic (and there are many for whom this is applicable). en Fleur’s solid base harmonizes with the rest of its composition; it doesn’t alter the fragrance nor weigh it down with unnecessary complexity. It can be tempting for a perfumer to include multiple materials which evoke a sultry climate – but often the end result feels more like a kitchen sink, and this approach may obfuscate their original intention. The incomparable lusciousness of Hawaiian sandalwood, with its rich woody sweetness, is tailor-made; a dash of tender musk, a mere soupçon of vanilla, and the silvery versatility of orris concrete confer both support and equipoise. The level of voluptuousness displayed here strikes a perfect balance. I enjoy and admire en Fleur greatly – and I am generally not one to prefer tropical fragrances, as they often ring false to my nose. This perfume possesses a naturalness which feels unstudied and graceful; it will not weary your senses. At the very least, it enables me to convey my spirit to the South Pacific and the wistful paradise incarnate.

“The longing for paradise is paradise itself.” ~ Khalil Gibran

Notes: bergamot, lemon, frangipani absolute, gardenia, grandiflorum jasmine, sambac jasmine, tiare absolute, tuberose accord, ylang-ylang Nosey Be, orris concrete, Hawaiian sandalwood, vanilla, musk

  • My favorite DSH perfume is Gekkou Hanami. I’m a huge DSH fan. Not only is she an amazing perfumer/artist, but she’s so kind and easy to speak/work with! I thought the review was interesting because while I adore plumeria/frangipani, I had no idea there were so many different types of significance for so many different cultures. I also love gardenia and the zesty opening sounds amazing. Id love to try en Fleur. I live in Colorado USA

En Fleur is a revitalized incarnation of the 2021 release of En Fleur with the note of plumeria highlighted; it is elevated from a simple tropical offering. Instead, en Fleur explores the bright, upbeat side of florals with its zesty citruses, floral notes of tiare, gardenia, tuberose, ylang-ylang, sambac jasmine, grandiflorum and tuberose that hints subtlety of indole, which is curtailed in the composition, creating an intoxicating floral bouquet that combined with lush Hawaiian sandalwood, tender, soft musk, a trace of vanilla, and orris, strikes the perfect balance. En Fleur is the perfect spring scent, but with a flair.

Happy birthday, Ida, and thanks for such a luminous review! What strikes me most is your observation that en Fleur avoids the kitchen-sink trap so many tropical compositions fall into — instead of piling on heat and humidity, Dawn Spencer Hurwitz lets the frangipani, gardenia, and tiare radiate outward like warm light through cream-colored petals, with just enough indolic edge to feel alive without overwhelming. The Hawaiian sandalwood grounding everything with a woody sweetness rather than dragging the florals down sounds like exactly the kind of restraint that separates a genuinely transporting scent from a souvenir candle. Partners in Crime remains a favorite of mine from the house — Dawn’s range across styles is remarkable — and en Fleur sounds like a beautiful counterpoint, all open air and optimism. I’d love to try it! Cheers from WI, USA

  • Ooh what a lovely fragrance! Sounds dreamy. Dawn’s fragrances always have this elegance but are still warm and sultry, it’s not an aloof vibe at all. I just love her work so much. And it’s so varied! From the mossy earthy violet of Violettes de L’Aube to the lush sensual chypre glory of Parfum de Luxe and everything in between. I’d love to try this plumeria beauty. I am in California.

What a beautifully written and soul-stirring review, Ida. It truly captures the poetic essence of Dawn Spencer Hurwitz’s artistry. Your reflections made me feel the sunlight and spirit within en Fleur before even smelling it myself. There’s such reverence in how you weave Gibran’s words into the sensory experience; it reminds me why fragrance belongs among the arts. Though I haven’t explored DSH Perfumes yet, Peacock Blue and Soho Cuir already feel like they’d be my vibe. Wishing you the most beautiful day, Happy Birthday, Ida!

En Fleur sounds like the perfect scent for hot weather, I find that plumeria and gardenia scents bloom beautifully in hot and humid weather. DSH is such a skilled perfumer – my current favorite from her is Au Lait, her milk scent. I’d love to win En Fleur; I’d wear it all summer and anytime I need a dose of sunshine and liquid joy. Sandalwood and vanilla sound like a good pairing for plumeria’s lushness as well.

    Happy birthday to Ida!

I love Jacinthe de Sapphir! En Fleur sounds like a tropical flower explosion with my favorite note, orris. I can’t wait to try it! Thank you for the giveaway. NY state

  • Trinity33 says:

En Fleur sounds unapologetically feminine and floral. Frangipane is such a joyful and optimistic note. The combination with the gardenia, tiare, jasmine and other florals sounds like walking through the most luxurious garden in full bloom. The supporting citrus, musk, vanilla and sandalwood balance but do not seem overwhelming. MD, USA

  • Ramses Perez says:

The name of this fragrance itself announces what you can expect from it: flowers. Yes there are other supporting notes but the flowers are the main attraction here. Dawn is an accomplished perfumer so I always wonder if it gets to a point where such masters run out of ideas to create new fragrances but that looks like it hasn’t happened yet. There is always something new to create or be inspired b, like in this case, the plumeria. I don’t have a favorite DSH fragrance as I have not had the chance to try any. I’m located in NJ, US.

  • Tropical, unconventional, and photorealistic ingredients at play. The article has lots of imagery and shows the artisanal prowess Miss Dawn brings into her craft. Referencing the serene beauty in writing of not only accentuates ones perspective but shows that an artist can paint a picturesque ideal without an agenda nor a muse. No idea how it wears but it definitely is a spring and summer delicacy that seems unisex and regal. Happy B Day Ida, would like to win. From USA

  • Interesting breakdown of how frangipani is used in various cultures—good and bad. Dawn’s en Fleur 2026 is all sunny light and joy, with its bright citrus opening and layering of natural-smelling tropical white florals. It sounds beautiful. (My favorite DSH fragrance is Wasabi Shiso, but I discovered Ambre Tibet recently and it’s bottle-worthy.)

Happy birthday, Ida! Love your reviews.

  • StealthECat says:

I love the idea that a powerful[ly fragrant] flower such as Frangipani is both idolized AND demonized across cultures. Funny how the human mind wraps itself around these things! And fun to see what DSH has chosen: idolatry (or is there a bit of the demon in there too)! My fave DSH at the moment is Biwa, because it has a strong Rice note but is still a perfume with an entire personality. I live in the PNW (contUS)

  • I LOVE dawn’s floral perfumes! I didn’t even think I enjoyed them until I got into her catalog. They are indeed the most natural I have tried. I’m particularly intrigued about how this one is described as only slightly indolic. While I’m not generally a fan of animalics, I see how a dash can add a sense of realism. The Hawaiian sandalwood paired with these floral notes sounds wonderful.

Today I am wearing Reine des Fleurs by DSH, which is a lovely naturalistic floral with a yummy peach note; one of my favorites!

I am from New England, USA.

    Happy belated, Ida!

    Hi there, Happy Birthday, Ida!

It’s funny to me that plumeria and Frangipani are the same??? Always open to hearing more details about the tropical and/or white flower species. And to learn more about cultural differences in perception and significance of these notes. Thank you for sharing this lovely draw from DSH. I really appreciate it.

I really am loving the new American Perfumer release from DSH. Tobacco. might be my favorite tobacco fragrance period. The review makes it clear that this is a real mood booster and it appears that all of the flowers were added. all of my favorites anyhow. I really want to try this! I’m in Texas USA

  • Hi,
Happy belated birthday, Ida! I’m not sure how I stumbled upon this blog page, but I felt strangely connected to this post. My birthday is on the day the giveaway ends and I was born the same year en Fleur was created, which feels like an interesting parallel. Another thing is that I rarely see my culture brought up much and that was such a nice surprise! I’m fairly new to niche perfumery and hadn’t heard of DSH Perfumes before reading this post, but I’m excited to learn more and would love to try en Fleur as I’ve always loved white florals and their spiritual significance. I live in California and thank you for sharing!

    P.S I hope you had a lovely birthday 🙂

  • I was intrigued by this review because my partner and I have recently been loving some other frangipani perfumes and this description sounds like just the spirit I appreciate. Plumeria is such an incredible scent that is often buried under coconut, vanilla etc. I really appreciate the more naturalistic, restrained approach described here and I’d love to sample it! because I have never had the chance to try DSH though her work has been on my radar for a very long time! I’m especially interested in Ashram, Celadon, and Serval. I Currently live in Indiana. Happy Birthday Ida!

I love Maui from DSH Perfume. Dawn knows how to do tropical fragrances just right. I am sure en Fleur brilliantly conveys the voluptuous plumeria flower, just as Maui brilliantly coveys the creamy coconut. I like that there are so many gorgeous floors in en Fleur, as well as a touch of vanilla and sandalwood. I can’t wait to luxuriate in this fragrance.
    Happy Birthday, Ida!
