Cherigan Paris Shanghai le Soir (Maxime Exler) 2025 + Sensual Scent Trail Giveaway

Cherigan Paris Shanghai le Soir

Cherigan Shanghai le Soir  Extrait de Parfum by Olya Bar

Some fragrance houses earn your loyalty quietly. Cherigan Paris did the opposite, it stormed straight into my inner circle of favorites. Not just because each release is impeccably dressed, but because the brand understands something many perfumes miss, the art of the trail. That invisible wake you leave behind. That fleeting moment when someone passes you and turns their head without knowing why. Creating that kind of sillage, calibrated, controlled, seductive without excess is a rare skill. And Shanghai le Soir performs it with breathtaking precision. On skin, it’s beautiful. In the air, it’s irresistible.

Shanghai le Soir by Cherigan

Close your eyes and the year is 1933. Neon lights shimmer along the Bund. Silk whispers against marble floors. A woman glides through the shadowed corridors of the Grand Theatre, rose tucked into her hair, crimson lips catching candlelight, her fragrance brushing the room like a secret meant only for those paying attention.

Shanghai’s golden cinema era comes alive, velvet-lined interiors, star-studded premieres, glamour thick enough to taste. Cherigan Paris Shanghai le Soir bottles that moment: luminous lychee wrapped in silky rose, lifted by airy woods that feel like warm night air slipping through open balcony doors.

To me, this perfume smells like a silk gown in motion, deep red with threads of gold embroidery catching the light. A long train trailing softly behind its wearer, never loud, always commanding attention through grace alone. She knows her beauty. She doesn’t perform it, she inhabits it. Maybe she’s sipping a chilled lychee martini between scenes. Maybe she’s simply enjoying the pleasure of being seen without trying too hard.

Despite its vintage inspiration, Shanghai le Soir feels remarkably modern. The opening bursts with juicy berries and lychee, bright, playful, almost sparkling. Soon, the heart settles into a softly lipsticky blend of violet and rose, carrying a subtle fizz that dances through the composition. The drydown wraps everything in a smooth embrace of musks and woods, supportive, sensual, never overpowering. It’s balanced, wearable, and dangerously easy to reach for.

This is the kind of fragrance you wear when you want to feel beautiful, not loudly, not aggressively but with quiet magnetism. The kind that lingers in memory long after you’ve left the room.

And honestly? That’s the most powerful luxury of all.

Notes: Pink berries, Lychee, Blackcurrant, Rose, Iris, Violet, Cedarwood, White musk, Cashmere wood, Woody notes.

  • With this description of the Sillage this scent leaves, I would love to smell it in the air!!

  • As soon as Olya’s review mentioned Lychee, I was interested! I love that this sounds like it’s something different and just my style. I’ve been looking for a perfume with a fruity opening and lychee is one of my favorite fruits. I’d be so excited to try this out! I live in the USA.

  • Although it takes inspiration from 1920s and 1930s Shanghai cinema, it is a thoroughly modern aromatic scent that is beautifully executed with a luminous lychee, silky rose and woodiness as standouts with the addition of fruity, fresh, tropical, a soft spiciness, violet, powdery and musk as supplements notes. Shanghai le Soir Extrait possesses an alluring sillage that is direct without being extreme.

  • I enjoyed the description – “It’s balanced, wearable, and dangerously easy to reach for.” I do like a black currant/rose fragrance and Shanghai le Soir sounds fantastic. Thank you for another wonderful review and draw. MI USA

A floral and woody elegance, with middle notes of rose, violet and iris, warmed by cedar that announces an elegant feminine fragrance.I am curious about it. I am from EU

  • I loved the silk gown analogy and that it embodies beauty and elegance in quiet mesmerizing way!

  • I love a vintage fragrance! This sounds luscious and beautiful. I bought Bleu Imperial Extrait from Cherigan and I loved the opening and heart, the dry down had a synthetic note I didn’t like much but otherwise it was wonderful. The label and presentation is lovely, I’m curious about this one. Thank you for the generous give away! I am located in the U.S.

  • This sounds like a perfect Valentine’s day scent. I love that it leaves a scent trail. Once again what intrigues me the most is the inspiration and I think they nailed it with presentation. I picture the 1930’s Shanghai theaters were the color of the bottle. I think Olya used the words beauty and grace and that seems to describe Shanghai le Soir well. I was sold on the first 3 notes pink berries, lychee and black current. Those notes are beautiful and feminine. This is a must try for me based on the inspiration and notes. It sounds like a very special fragrance and the notes speak to me. I would really love to have it in my collection. I am in Pennsylvania USA

  • Beautiful words and images for what sounds like a very sophisticated beautiful scent. Imtrigued!

  • The evocative description of its seductive, controlled sillage and the silky rose-lychee blend that feels both vintage-glamorous and modern really draws me in, it sounds like quiet, irresistible elegance. I live in Poland, EU.

  • I love a good lipstick rose/violet fragrance. This sounds very grand, yet understated. Such luxurious notes. I really should be keeping a list of things to test when I go to Fragrance Vault. Thanks for informing of this beauty. USA.

  • Cherigan Paris Shanghai le Soir sounds like a beautiful fragrance. The comparisons to the golden age of cinema and glamour feel apt based on the notes. I love how Olya mentioned that it still feels remarkably modern despite its vintage inspiration. The heart of the “lipsticky blend of violet and rose” is right up my alley; I absolutely adore any fragrance that’s reminiscent of lipstick or makeup powder.

Thank you, Olya, for the great review, and thank you to Cherigan Paris for the generous giveaway. I am located in the USA.

  • I really like how Olya described it “It’s balanced, wearable, and dangerously easy to reach for.

Olya’s review brilliantly articulates something I’ve always felt but struggled to define: the art of a perfect, controlled scent trail. Her opening statement that Cherigan understands “the art of the trail… calibrated, controlled, seductive without excess” is what truly sparks my interest. A fragrance that is beautiful on skin but becomes “irresistible” in the air, leaving a “quiet magnetism” in your wake, represents the pinnacle of wearable elegance. The imagery of a 1930s Shanghai cinema, a silk gown in motion, and a “secret meant only for those paying attention” promises a scent with immense sophistication and narrative depth. This sounds like the very definition of polished allure. I am in the EU

  • The description captured my attention form the first paragraph, especially Olys mantioned of the art of the trail. The vintage inspiration and the gran soiré atmosphere increased my interest even more. I’ve been looking for a sensual, never overpowering perfume, Shanghai le Soir Extrait sounds exactly that.

Subtle fizz, embroidery and grace are the words that stuck with me after this review. I live in the EU.

  • What sparks my interest most is how Olya describe “the art of the trail.” That invisible wake a fragrance leaves behind has always fascinated me, the idea that perfume isn’t just worn, it’s remembered. Shanghai le Soir sounds like it captures that balance between intimacy and presence perfectly, silk, shimmer, and shadow woven into scent. I can almost see the glow of the Bund in its sillage.

    – USA –

  • I’ve never met a fragrance with a lychee note that I didn’t like and I have a major soft spot for vintage perfumes as well. Loved Olya’s description of it as a silk gown in motion!

This sounds like the perfect scent to pick up for a valentine’s date. I’m in the USA.

  • I’ve wanted a bottle of purple bar forever and this looks as good. Hope I get to try! I am in usa

Love the transportive description of this sensual and refined fragrance that through its essence reveals the beauty of Shanghai night’s in another era. What fascinates me is the mesmerizing blend of silky roses with the elegance of juicy lychee and the irresistible sensual trail that leaves behind.
A very interesting review! I am looking forward to try it!
    Many greetings! From EU

  • Thanks, Olya, for the review! “Despite its vintage inspiration, Shanghai le Soir feels remarkably modern.” This line definitely makes the fragrance sound appealing to me, since I think this is a tricky balance to find. Also I LOVE a rose and blackcurrant fragrance, so Shanghai le Soir sounds right up my alley.

My fascination with Cherigan Paris’s fragrance, particularly Shanghai le Soir, ignited from the moment I encountered its captivating allure. Unlike many perfume houses that earn loyalty through subtlety, Cherigan Paris boldly claimed its place among my favorites through a combination of artistry and intention. The brand’s approach to fragrance goes beyond mere scent; it encapsulates the ethereal experience of leaving an unforgettable impression.

One of the most compelling aspects of Shanghai le Soir is its masterful sillage—the delicate trail a fragrance leaves in its wake. This concept, often overlooked in modern perfumery, is a true testament to the craftsmanship involved. The ability to create a scent that is both intriguing and inviting, yet not overwhelming, is a rare skill that Cherigan Paris demonstrates with remarkable finesse. The description of the fragrance as “calibrated, controlled, and seductive” resonates deeply with me, as it speaks to the balance between presence and subtlety that I find so appealing in a fragrance.

Wearing Shanghai le Soir transforms the ordinary into the extraordinary. The way it unfolds on the skin is nothing short of beautiful, while its presence in the air has an irresistible quality that lingers in memory. The notion that someone might turn their head, drawn in by an unseen force, perfectly captures the essence of what I seek in a fragrance—something that not only enhances my presence but also creates a moment of intrigue for others.

In essence, my interest in Shanghai le Soir is sparked by its ability to embody the art of seduction through scent. It does not merely perfume the body; it enhances one’s aura, leaving a lasting impression that is both enchanting and unforgettable. Cherigan Paris has not just created a fragrance; they have crafted an experience that resonates with my desire for elegance and allure, making it a staple in my collection..

Shanghai is one of the cities in my bucket list to visit. I do agree with Olya in that scents that have that massive trail eventually become like a Baccarat Rouge 540 and everyone wants to be wearing them. I could see the same for this one not in the sense that they smell alike, they don’t, but the massive trail they leave behind makes people want to ask: what are you wearing? Once word gets outs about the scent and its prowess, it spreads like wildfire. Also the red hue and aesthetic of the scent makes a beautiful Valentine’s Day accessory or gift to give your loved one. I’m located in the USA.

  • wallygator88 says:

Thanks for the elegant and atmospheric review! Cherigan Paris Shanghai le Soir evokes a dreamy night in 1930s Shanghai — a scent where vintage cinema glamour meets modern sophistication. It opens with juicy lychee and lively pink pepper that feel bright and radiant, while cassis leaf adds a crisp, slightly tart edge. As the florals — violet, rose, and orris — unfold, there’s a soft powdery floral elegance that feels both luminous and refined. The base of white musk, woody notes and cashmeran gives it a warm, sensual trail that lingers like the memory of silk and silk-screened lights under lantern glow. I especially loved how the fruity top notes and powdery florals weave together into a graceful yet memorable fragrance narrative. I’d love to try Shanghai le Soir!

oh my goodness- this sounds like a fragrance i need… all my favorite notes are in there & not only that- the description! what a gorgeous take on how it smells… like a beautiful woman that knows she’s beautiful, just in a way that is not loud nor demands attention… but, just is. the detailed words & beautiful set scene… it just sounds incredibly enticing & i can only imagine that it is a divine- especially those notes! i would pass away to be able to win this beautiful fragrance… i am definitely interested now & it went on my wishlist! :). thank you guys for everything. i am in the united states.

  • This sounds decadent and distinctly feminine, truly a perfume that makes a statement. The age of golden cinema in the 1930s is very evocative, I can envision the rustle of silk and the rose/violet/iris “lipstick’ scent. The woods and musk provide a luxurious base and the fruits, particularly lychee make it modern. USA

  • crownroyale47 says:

I like how it captured the idea of quiet magnetism. I was drawn to the way it focused on presence rather than performance, on the invisible impression a fragrance leaves behind. The writing made me curious about a scent that does not announce itself loudly but still commands attention. It felt cinematic, emotional, and intimate, describing not just how the perfume smells, but how it makes someone feel when wearing it. That sense of elegance without excess is what pulled me in.
    I live in the US.

  • I love lychee as a fruit, and its use in perfumery intrigues me, as it’s usually associated with rose (which is the case in specialty coffee notes from Southeast Asia). I’ve seen that Mr. Exler has worked for many Chinese perfume houses, so he must have a better understanding of that world than other perfumers, which is why I think Charigan made the right choice. I think it’s a good thing that it’s an airy, fizzy scent with a soft, warm embrace, and not what those red tones might initially suggest. I live in Spain, EU.

  • I still haven’t tried anything from this house, but this sounds intriguing! I’m thinking maybe an exotic, slightly nostalgic take on Delina?

  • What sparks my interest most is the captivating duality Olya describes. Shanghai le Soir is portrayed as both a time capsule and a modern marvel. It evokes the “golden cinema era” of 1930s Shanghai with its velvet and neon, yet feels “remarkably modern” with its burst of “sparkling” lychee and berries. This balance between vintage inspiration and contemporary wearability is incredibly appealing. The idea of a “lipsticky” violet-rose heart with a subtle fizz, drying down to a “smooth embrace” of musks and woods, sounds like a fragrance that is both playful and profoundly sensual. It promises that rare quality: feeling beautiful with effortless, quiet confidence.

  • I’m curious about a lychee note used as a supporting player to a blend like Shanghai le Soir. This sounds sweet and juicy while remaining balanced, which seems difficult with this range of notes. Elegant.

    I’m in the USA.

  • Max Corvinus says:

What sparks my interest most is the way Olya describes Shanghai le Soir’s controlled sillage — that quiet, magnetic trail that turns heads without ever announcing itself. The imagery of rose and lychee moving through the air like silk rather than sitting heavily on the skin is exactly how I love fragrance to behave. As someone whose partner adores roses, this feels like a modern, luminous take that honours romance without nostalgia becoming costume.

    I live in Croatia (EU).

  • foreverscents says:

A scent trail that turns heads is truly hard to find these days. Shanghai le Soir sounds sensuous and silky, and certainly befitting of the glamorous Bund of the 1930s. I love tat this fragrance has a juicy opening and then a settles into a smooth embrace of musk and wood,
I love a fragrance that is evocative and sensual.
    I live in the USA.

  • This sounds really sensual and sexy. Love the red diva style of the article. Olya really describes this with a lot of vavavoom and I immediately want to smell this way. I’ve never tried anything from Cherigan but like the vintage inspiration and aesthetic. Marit EU

  • Cherigan Paris is a new brand to me, but this one sounds so beautiful that I have bookmarked Ola’s other reviews for the brand. Ola’s description of this perfume and the photos that accompany it remind me of the marketing for Tom Ford’s Fleur de Chine many years ago, and that perfume today is still in my top ten (I have the king-sized bottle). However the notes of Shanghai le Soir sound totally different, especially the lychee and berries, even if the dramatic effect it gives is the same. This is the sentence that really made me want this perfume badly: “To me, this perfume smells like a silk gown in motion, deep red with threads of gold embroidery catching the light.” Sounds gorgeous! I am in the US and thank you for the review and the draw.

  • This sounds like a berry delight that makes you want to continue to reach for throughout the day. The iris in the mid and the cashmere probably smooth it out and make it wear rich and bold. That silky rose smell always brightens up any blend and its a welcomed addition to any fragrance. Would love to win, from USA.

  • Ola’s review reminded me of how I feel inside when I go dancing. I wonder whether Shanghai le Soir is a good fit for my dancing shoes
